Only watched the first half, as had to head off to AG (which went well ), not a great game, but an excellent result. I would have been happy with a narrow loss, so to actually win is fantastic.
I'm not sure that how your experience 30 years ago has much bearing on how the US currently feels about football.
Obviously football is never going to be as big as the major sports over there, but you only have to look at the attendances in the MLS (and NWSL) to see how much the sport has grown in recent times.
There will definitely be a big (relatively speaking) interest in this game, and the tournament as a whole.
I'm not going to bother. I have a sneaking suspicion that the 21/22 will see us hanging around the lower mid table for most of the season, with the season being effectively over by March...
