The same Paul Cook that is with Chesterfield in non-league? Granted, i know they just got promoted, but lets not pretend he is a good manager - probably could of had Man City’s CEO and he still would of been crap.

Give Ashton his credit. You say not “overplay”  what he’s done at Ipswich, yet he single handedly delivered (McKenna) the reason that they have had back to back promotions - Ashton deserves all the credit possible in the role he is doing in my opinion

I think Fevs is referring to the type of coach Swiss Tony can manipulate in place rather than whether they are any good. He tried it with Holden and found out he was out of his depth. Cook was too knowledgeable and saw through him, in McKenna he found the right fit. There are too many scars here to give him lots of credit. What I would say is that it's a collective & Ipswich Town deserve all of the credit as a whole for a fantastic season and definitely the team of the season to achieve what they have achieved but you just know that a certain Teflon covered reptile will be giving it the big I am and using the opportunity to make all of the self gratification soundbites.

  2. I'm as critical of the hierarchy as much as the next fan & like most I have never felt so disconnected with the club as I do now. Getting rid of experience and knowhow and replacing it with learning on the job, inexperience & behaviours doesn't auger well for the immediate future.

Next season will be a turning point for the club's hierarchy & who knows what will happen. What I will say (hold on to) is that the club have been very cute with recruitment in getting Bird & TGH for next to nothing.

I must confess that I think we are missing a trick with letting Andy King and all of his knowledge and experience go out of the door. That type of knowhow is irreplaceable as is not having Matty James on the pitch. Someone else who looks like they'll be gone.

Always believe is now being replaced with trying to believe.

You could say that about every club from the top six down in the Championship! Next season it will arguably be harder with Pompey, Derby & possibly Bolton coming up and Sheff Utd, Burnley & Luton/Forest coming down plus a big club like Leeds or Southampton missing out and staying down. The league is extremely competitive and probably one of the hardest to have success in with FFP and PP disparity.

By the way Man City COULD find themselves in the Championship and even lower if they are penalised for alledged financial irregularities. Not as inconceivable as you think. Should we be worried about that as well?

A laughing emoji, a marvellous response.

My point wasn't that they are closing. More that we could easily go down & thus be in therefore be in the same division

Not really seeing as in recent seasons we've been looking down more than up & had dodgy runs that have had us concerned about being dragged in. Think most would admit that? So its quite plausible for us to go down. Less inclined to say the sags would go up. Man City will never be in a similar position (ffp issues aside) so you can't compare.

Your point was they're "only" a division below us as if they are closing in and we should be worried. Even when they were non league they were "only" three divisions below us.

I think you can probably realise by now why I made the Man City comparison.

I was born in 1960 - grew up from the age of 7 in Forest Road, Kingswood.  From memory, I seem to remember as many City as Rovers at school as I always used to dread the Gloucester Cup as we always seemed to lose (maybe that's because it's a painful memory).  I remember the old Rovers club shop down at the Kingsway.  The rivalry isn't the same any more - or maybe that's because I don't live in Bristol any more.

The rivalry isn't the same anymore & its due to how much progress we have made in a relatively short space of time and probably more how they've regressed in that same period.

I really don't see them as a rival anymore and couldn't care less if we never played them again.

For them to be a rival there has to be some common ground to dispute and there really isn't anything to compare. That's not being bigheaded or dismissive, there really isnt anything. More importantly there is now a whole body of fans who have never witnessed a derby match. Our rivalry is Cardiff & Swansea, there's is Swindon & Cheltenham.

Offers or not, the gates are still outstanding. Meanwhile, we seem to be doing our utmost to make it difficult for supporters to attend.

You must have a relative in the "stadium" who has a photocopied season ticket that can be passed through the fence for you, surely?

  8. Well, setting aside swiss tony's history with us, Ipswich are the team of the season in my view. To have promotion in your hands going into the last game of the season is a phenomenal achievement considering the financial disparity with the parachute payment clubs.

    Well done Ipswich.

By the way, if swiss tony is reading this then the asking price for Tommy Conway is £30M.

Just saw the BBC Bristol Tweet.
7 gone, is it 6 loans returned ? , 3 offers in and Chris Martin being held hostage for another year.
That is some rebuild  Taylor has on his hands .

Plus the fact that their wealthy kebab shop owner is cutting their budget presumably because, er . . he hasn't actually got any, will guarantee plenty of guffaws and will keep this thread nicely on page 1.

Without doubt, Ipswich had their luckiest season. But they did everything right to take advantage. We're waiting for our lucky season, and to be capable of taking advantage.

We had that in 2008 and got unstuck by injuries.

Roberts for me. But you know what, i was really impressed with the pace of their left back (Bramall) Lightening quick acceleration and pace. Might be one to keep an eye on, especially if was to Pring move on over the summer.

    Sorry for going off topic.

I was actually thinking the same! Was very impressed with him!

  12. I really hope Kingy stays on in a coaching capacity. He's such an intelligent player on and off the pitch & I'm sure all of the young players have benefited from his experience as has Liam Manning. Good luck Andy, it was a pleasure seeing you in a City shirt especially as you're a fan also.

Interesting you mention TGH. I’m not sold on him as yet. Big season coming up for him.

He's technically a very good player who can play in a number of positions. Interestingly, much like Knight and Bird, he's welcomed a move away from his developing club to presumably shake the young "academy prospect" tag off once and for all. There's a lot more to come from him.

  14. He is a great signing and with all of the continued negativety towards the hierarchy one thing they must have huge credit for is the astute recruitment. Getting Bird and TGH for example for peanuts represents great business, very impressive and very "un Bristol City like" The big test is the summer recruitment and the big No.9.

    I’m a bit confused?

Only last August they were wetting themselves over the best squad they’ve ever assembled with a certain promotion challenge to look forward to and today they finish the season 19 points behind the play offs and below the mighty Exeter again.

Did they get a massive points deduction or something?

No, they are just f-cking 5hit, end of

  16. The whole point is that he wasn't going to sign a new deal and Derby were looking to cash in as much as possible for a player who had a rapidly dwindling transfer value as his contract ran down. We did a smart bit of business in loaning him back. He helps them win promotion, he gets his move and an improved contract & everyone wins.

Just like Jason Knight, his gravitas has improved,  making the move he is no longer regarded as a bright academy prospect, he is an important and valued player in his own right.
