  1. By contrast I thought all subs made sense. Wells, Conway Weimann, Scott all ran themselves into the ground. We had to keep some energy in the middle to help Martin out on the top (HNM) and after that we needed to have more defensive players on the pitch to withstand the inevitable. And don’t forget we have to go again on the weekend. I don’t think he could have done much else other than bring Wilson on but then who goes in the middle that wasn’t gassed or not the fastest over 30m?
  2. Most predictions I’ve seen have us 12th - 16th. I think we’ll be in the middle third as well. We’re no way near the complete package but we’ve improved on the weaker areas and if we keep the momentum going that we started to build in places towards the end of last season then none of that’s out of the question.
  3. Cardiff tears that’ll fill up the city. Love to see it. Also did anybody really think he’d go there? Other than them of course!
  4. Let’s say we keep Cundy and Klose. Sell Kalas, Vyner, Moore. That would give us: RB: Tanner CB: Klose, Atkinson, Cundy, Idehen LB: DaSilva, Pring Plus youth players still to come through. It’s pretty well documented we’re after an RB and another CB. That would be a fairly sensible squad numbers and talent wise. As for Pring, as others said, number of factors and in reality he’ll come back around.
  5. Completely agree. Gone are the days where we would ship 7 to bring in 14. Leaning more on the youth, you’d expect a selection of Conway, Bell, Benarous, Idehen, Towler, perhaps Kadji and Owers as well to see more first team appearances. I think your assessment on the OOC players is about right too. Taking the step back, if we brought in 4 players, say two defenders, a midfielder and a striker, who were solid championship quality, kept Klose and Cundy, then hopefully move on Palmer, Wells, COD (ooc), King (ooc), Moore, and a couple others who either don’t warrant the wage (Kalas) or haven’t quite made the grade (Vyner). If we did that, would we be mad? We shouldn’t be. Of course, this is all on the assumption that Webster and Kelly don’t transfer in the summer and land is a big sell on. Or if we cash in on HNM and/or Scott. That could tweak a few theories!
  6. 352 with JD and Scott as wingbacks I reckon.
  7. I think we’ll lose one, probably Antoine. But IMO this is the best crop we’ve had coming through at once, and if you think Scott, Pring, Benarous, they are all gonna be in year 2 of championship starts next year, and are likely to keep improving? That’s before we consider Bell, Pearson and Edwards… We’ve got some talent on our hands peeps.
  8. Let’s be honest, some of this does derive from the fan base. There’s discourse on here, on social media that Niges’s record isn’t good enough etc, for what it’s worth I see us as a complete rebuild job as many others do. So it’s not a stretch to think that some of those vocal minority that spend their sad lives tweeting JL (and they do, especially at any negative result, and not all of them are trolls, sadly) have got in his head a bit. This speaks a little bit of JL if he has chosen to put that sound bite out to placate them. Because all it’s done nothing but rattle the majority of fans and annoy the manager. That said, it could also be his genuine opinion. And if that’s the case then I truly do worry about how this club is going to be run going forward. I have always taken the rough with the smooth with the Lansdown family, and let’s be honest compared to a number of clubs we are well looked after, but we will be nothing more than we currently are if this is a dose of the reality JL believes in. Ultimately we could guess either way, and we will only find out when things either turn around on a sustainability front (and hopefully with it our results and position), or when the proverbial hits the fan. Either way, this, as well as other decisions coming home to roost in the last three years, has made me really question the future of the Lansdown dynasty, thankful as I am for what they’ve done on the whole, but now it does beg the question of how much we need an additional influence at board and financial level that contains better football acumen.
  9. Early doors, but draws parallels to me when we signed Wilbs. Clear class there, I just hope it continues.
  10. In regards to those players saying good things and others saying negative, if you were to line up the players on each camp and see what sort of team you get, my gut feeling is the team that praise him are much, much better players and more successful. I mean come on, comparing the Schmichels to Marc bloody Albrighton…
  11. No, sorry, ongoing player recruitment is widely different from what the OP was saying which was basically “wahhh why don’t we keep players and not sell them”, which anybody can pull apart. Ongoing incomings needs to improve, and never more so then now, I grant that and it should be a discussion, but this hark back on the past sales and should we/shouldn’t we? Move on, please.
  12. And if we hadn’t we’d be up excrement creek without a paddle, or are we completely ignoring the accounts that were released today? We have to move on from this very, very quickly.
  13. And how many of them were playing today? Tanner (who is a massive work in progress)…and that’s about it!
  14. I think not being willing and/or able to make many changes in the summer is coming home to roost with us. We have too many players going anonymous in games and that feels like an individual thing. I don’t see this as a Pearson devised issue (yet), but if we don’t invest in January we will sleepwalk to league one in the same way we did under SOD
  15. Really silly pen to give away from the defender, keeper had a half chance why make the contact? But it’s about time we had a decision go our way.
  16. Bit frustrated about no POTD, I’m up there for work today and it’s 50/50 on if I could have made the game, options taken away from me now unless I go into the home end and I’m not sure I can behave myself enough for that!
  17. Safe to say, that is what football is about. Memories, good or bad, but something you’ll always take with you and he will too. Great stuff.
  18. This is the point for me. Scott, Bell, Pearson, Conway have played less than 30 games between them and only a handful of starts. Bryan, Reid et al took a season or two to really kick on. On the other hand Moore, Vyner, COD have not kicked on despite the amount of games they’ve had now. I think a couple of them could use loans in the same way Bryan and Reid did, but I think Scott has enough to be in the squad, as does Janneh, they can make impacts either off the bench or as starters playing 60-70.
  19. Agree to this, I won’t sit here and blow smoke up our own backsides, but I think there’s enough people who went through 82 (like my old man) to not want to play this sort of thing out. Let’s be honest, we are lucky in a number of ways when it comes to ownership stability and I suspect we all (myself included) has gone “why can’t SL just gamble one season and cheat the system like QPR or Wolves or Villa” but would that really make us happy? And there’s no promise that it pays off. Of course some fans would rather success at all costs. Of course some fans would blindly back the club even if they were in the wrong, either out of faith or borderline trolling, but I think because of where we’ve been we’d have a better proportion of fans kicking off if we pulled this sort of thing.
  20. Looks like Tisdale. Meltdown incoming!
  21. Really frustrating one. Shouldn’t have kept Flint up top once we went ahead, once it was 1-1 it was theirs for the taking, and sure enough they did. Way too many individual mistakes for that winner, let’s not get at Pack only, there’s a lot of issues for that winner. Signings in January clearly needed, there’s tired, tired faces out there.
  22. Mixed feelings today, bringing my mate and he's being his youngun for the first time so going to be a good day out, but after almost 20yrs giving up the ST for money/family reasons. I think it'll be a good day though, can see atmosphere being decent and think we'll win 2-0. I'd love for a Tammy hatrick but maybe that's asking for too much!
  23. Win Saturday and we're safe now, even a draw will be fine but we'd be looking at other results. Bottom line is that we have points on the board, and the others still have to get them, so I'm not too edgy!
  24. I can see the midfield being quite fluid in possession, GON and Korey like Reid aren't afraid to bomb forwards so I can see a bit of give and go football being played. Not the line up I'd have gone but can still see that team doing well today.
