Pretty simple. Charge them the same in return

Surely that will make the situation worse - it will put more fans out of packet and give the likes of Leeds the justification they need to increase even more next year.

  2. Absolutely incredible that Barton should be suggesting that anyone (especially young people following him on twitter) should pay any attention to what that animal has to say.

A new low for him, and the club that seems to support him so strongly.

Yep - Nige plays the “I’m ignorant on these matters” card really well. Gives journalists nothing to come back with. He knows very well what’s going on.

    He’s a clever guy.

You’re also suggesting he’s a bare faced liar.

Not being facetious, which of the various groups of players do you think he overachieved with?  If you wanna equate “groups” with seasons, e.g. the 17/18 group versus the 20/21 group as an example, that’s fine.  I’m just interested.

The 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons stand out. During spells in those seasons we played exceptionally well. I know we had some classy players, but in my opinion we performed better as a team than the sum of the individual parts would indicate we should.

many posters are dismissive of LJ, but in December 2017 I felt more optimistic about this club than I've done in the last 40 years (that includes Wembley 2008).  It didn't work out, but I still believe it was worth a try.  And LJ was definitely part of our progression from Championship-League One yo-yo to an established Championship club.

Getting off topic now, but I’ve always thought LJ over-delivered with the players he had. I can’t think of any other manager that has done this in my time (including Nige)

  6. I can’t help thinking where we would be without SL’s millions:

    a) in the Premier League with a far richer and more experienced owner

    b) a lower / mid Championship club struggling to meet ends meet

    c) languishing in League 1 with a shit stadium but regular derbies with the Gas

Having lived through the pre Lansdown decades, I’m not at all confident it would be a)!

I'd say that the "best of intentions" isn't really an appropriate phrase; rather the crush was caused by the police officer in charge of security for that game being new to the role, not understanding the layout of the ground and choosing what he saw as the least-worst option: avoidng a potential crush at the entry gates by having them opened and allowing the fans to stream in

.. and I wouldn’t say that ‘the crush was caused by the police’. They failed to prevent the crush, but they didn’t actually crush anyone.

It does sound like we agree though that those involved in the subsequent lies and cover up are simply evil.

  8. I also happen to believe that the police made decisions on the day with the best intentions. Given the environment around football support at the time, I think there was  a real risk of crowd trouble outside the ground and of people getting hurt if they didn’t open the gates . Therefore, they thought the safest (least riskiest) thing to do would be to let them into the ground.  It was a terrible decision to have to make, and with hindsight the wrong decision, but one made with the right intention. As BTRFTG said, the police didn’t crush anyone - but they did fail to prevent one.

What is really unforgivable though is the cover up that happened afterwards.

Pretty sure his dad was the sports teacher at the school that he attended in Olomouc (a beautiful town if you’ve been there).

I’ve never been to Olomouc. Does this mean it’s a shithole?

What I didn't like was it was only a foul because it was a goal. No goal scored = no foul.

Not much different to the instances where fouls are given outside the box but the same foul isn't given inside the box.

I think the point is that it was a foul, and the ref got it wrong (regardless of whether the ball ended up in the back of the net).

However, the VAR can only advise the referee to review his decision if a goal is scored. The alternative is that VAR reviews all challenges and advises the referee to reconsider all potential mistakes, and I don’t think anyone wants that!

  11. This may be controversial, but I like a vociferous away end. It adds to the atmosphere, and helps (or should help) to get the home support going. If it doesn’t, this is more reflective of our support and moving away fans to a quiet corner won’t make any difference.

There is also the quid pro quo to think about. I really enjoy our away games, and if all clubs hid our away fans away (I know some already do), this might put some fans supporting our club away from home as well.
