Well yes it has, it could've be much much worse if they didn't quarantine as soon as they did. Same goes for Wuhan in China, it's the only reason it's stabilised over there. Since Italy's average age is higher than most paces it made sense. I recommend watching this doctor, he gives you an idea of how important some measures are:

I don't think our approach is sensible as it could be. We're approaching this in a very reactive way rather than proactive. Italy are trying to stay one step ahead of coronavius by shutting schools and large events. We're reacting slowly and I don't see schools etc being closed until its too late. It'll probably happen no matter what, but the spread can be slowed which is the main thing to help hospitals

I saw a tweet of someone who flew to an Italian airport with no checks. It’s almost like some countries have already admitted defeat or something

17 million have been quarantined in Italy now. We’re a little over a week behind them I wondering if it’ll be a similar case here.

The WHO is far safer to go by of course. People have to remember these death rates are occurring when hospitals are working fine. If even 5% of our population catch this the hospitals will be crammed and I'll be surprised if that rate doesn't rise. I agree with your earlier statement, people understating this are very self absorbed.

It's spreading in London right now which is a bit concerning. I see us being in a similar state that Italy are currently going through in a week, minus the quarantining of entire towns. This UK doctor on YouTube has been a very good source of info
