  1. So basically he’s got a bone to pick with someone but he doesn’t know who.
  2. Was wondering what the attendance would be like tonight. I expected most people to come back after Christmas, without the threat of their Christmas being ruined by Covid.
  3. Wonder if Bentley is off whether we’d look to bring in a replacement or go with Max for the rest of the season.
  4. Similar situation for West Ham - no trains running into London. Plus an awful lot of Covid about. Empty seats everywhere.
  5. Brighton game yesterday - moved to 8pm on Boxing Day thanks to Sky, with no trains running. Anyone who’s been to the Amex understands the impact of no trains on the travel infrastructure there. Absolutely ridiculous state of affairs. Fans being treated like shit again.
  6. So much sympathy for you, what a miserable way to spend Christmas. Although, you will have a great anecdote from it that you’ll be able to dine out on for years!
  7. My sympathies Jerseybean. I have so many questions about your predicament! So, you test positive - what happens then? Do you have to isolate IMMEDIATELY? Who sorts out the accommodation - your travel insurance? Do you stay in the same place you were spending your holiday, or move somewhere else - if the latter how do you get there in a busy city without risking infecting others?! Who brings you food when you’re isolating in a place where you (presumably) don’t know anyone?! Sorry for all the questions - just very curious! Merry Christmas! My sympathies Jerseybean. Sorry it did that weird double post thing.
  8. As wonderful as that night was, in my mind, each passing anniversary is increasingly a reminder of how little we’ve had to get excited about since - and how we squandered all the opportunities and hope of that season. And, yes, I am fun at parties!
  9. Suggest you try Facebook mate, they love this sort of brainless crap over there.
  10. Just saying something doesn’t make it true. Covid is not a “small part”. A sudden, dramatic fall in attendance isn’t explained merely by poor form - we’ve been average at home for years. Look at the “Not going Saturday” thread for a much more obvious explanation. There are numerous posts from ordinarily loyal season ticket holders explaining that they chose not to attend because of extremely high Covid rates and the potential to have to isolate over Christmas. Expect a recovery in attendance after Christmas (assuming we’re still allowed to go) once there is less at stake. I didn’t go yesterday because we have Christmas plans we don’t want ruined, but have tickets for Millwall and fully intend to be there.
  11. Fine. The graph shows the percentage of hospitalisations that end up in death, across each age group, for each of South Africa’s three waves of infections. The earliest dates refer to the first wave (blue bars) The second set of dates refer to the second wave (orange bars) The third set of dates refer to the latest Omicron wave (grey bars). There are actually four sets of dates referenced in the title but this is acknowledged as an error in the thread. So the earlier dates have nothing to do with Omicron, it’s a comparison with earlier waves. It demonstrates that deaths as a percentage of hospitalisations are lower for Omicron (a good thing) - but it also categorically refutes your claim that people are not dying from Omicron.
  12. Never understood the bizarre notion that you have to be relegated to rebuild.
  13. I don’t really care about the circumstances frankly. Don’t throw bottles. It’s not hard.
  14. Do you know what, I reckon I could be in the corner for days and not feel compelled to throw bottles. Because I’m not a complete dick. Now being discussed on five live. Doing our club no favours at all.
  15. Just been reported on five live that play has been suspended because our fans in the corner were throwing things onto the pitch. Well done, Neanderthals, you’ve made us look like dicks.
  16. You can’t interpret a graph then. I give up.
  17. When you say “this figure has been debated long and hard elsewhere”, what you actually mean is it has been categorically demonstrated to you that it is actually an underestimate. https://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/215017-vaccine-passport-plan-b/&do=findComment&comment=4267366 And I’ve also explained to you how your friend’s death would have been recorded. https://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/215017-vaccine-passport-plan-b/&do=findComment&comment=4267366 So please stop perpetuating the myth that Covid deaths are overstated. That’s total bollocks. Oh and please also stop saying no one has died from Omicron in South Africa - again, total bollocks; they are being hospitalised, and they are dying (at a lower rate):
  18. Should we be building more hospitals and investing in a better healthcare infrastructure? Quite possibly yes. Does that make it “bollocks” to say that the NHS has a finite capacity and, as things stand, a rapid rise in Covid admissions threatens to overstretch capacity both in terms of beds and availability of staff? And if allowed to completely unravel, threatens treatment for emergencies (of any kind) and other illnesses? Absolutely not. Certainly our beds-per-citizen ratio is well down on other comparable Western countries, so there’s a strong argument to say we should be investing further (and I would agree). But the NHS will always have a finite capacity. And it wouldn’t be remotely economically viable to ever have enough redundancy built into the system to cope with a huge spike in demand at any given moment. There will always be a threshold where society has to do it’s bit to stop it bursting at the seams. Rightly or wrongly, Omicron may well require us to do our bit.
  19. Remarkable number of people on this thread understandably choosing not to attend tomorrow - more than 50% I’d say. Only anecdotal evidence of course, and I tend to think of regular OTIBers as a bit more sensible and considered than your average City fan (mostly!), but it will be very interesting to see what the attendance is.
  20. Just to put to bed the nonsense suggestion that people aren’t dying of Omicron - they are. And they’re being hospitalised too. Fortunately the proportions are lower than with previous waves, but cases weren’t doubling every two days then. So we could end up overwhelming the NHS through sheer numbers. So ignore anyone who tries to tell you Omicron is mild, and therefore it doesn’t matter. It’s nowhere near that simple.
  21. Exactly this. Even if it was “just the flu” (it isn’t), if flu cases were at 90k and doubling every two days, we would STILL have a massive problem coming our way with both NHS bed capacity AND staffing levels. Likewise other key workers. Ignoring Covid does absolutely nothing to help cancer or any other illnesses - as Whitty made abundantly clear yesterday.
