Have you been fitted for shoes properly? It can make a big difference. I don't really do anything special after a run, I always start and end my run around half a mile from home and then use the walking time to/from as a warm up/cool down, but I've had knee and back pain for so long that I think I've just learned to live with it!

Really, really impressed with the new earphones. After almost a year running without music after my last earphones packed in, it's been an absolute joy to be running with music again, I'd forgotten just how much it picks me up when I'm starting to flag. Looked at loads of pricier models but none of them ticked everything I wanted (i.e. properly waterproof and comfortable to run in) at a price I was happy to pay just for workout earphones, as I already have a nice pair of wireless over ear headphones for general use. First impressions are really good, first time of having an 'AirPods' style earphone, was worried they'd move around and not be comfortable to run in but they're great, and for £46 if they only last a year I won't lose any sleep as opposed to some which are £150-£200. Yep I got absolutely soaked but I love running in the rain, in the summer at least, my waterproof headphones came today too, just in time!

Sounds like it could be a piriformis injury (google it). Try this for relief

It's been a welcome break for my knees, mixing running and cycling on alternate days has made a big difference to the amount of knee pain I get.

    Runners!

Been cycling a lot since picking up a bike during lockdown, so running took a back seat for a few weeks, but been mixing it up every other day and back to really enjoying running again. And after months of running without music due to faulty headphones, I finally got some waterproof wireless earphones coming which will be a godsend for motivation. I resolved to "close my rings" (Apple Watch activity tracking) every day in June, so been doing weight training and either a run or cycle every day. 16/30 done, and starting to flag, especially as I'm in calorie deficit most days, but determined to finish.

I’ve only just a month or so ago started cycling for the first time since I had a paper round some 20 years ago....! Be grateful for any recommended routes! Last weekend I did about 20 miles from here (Oldland Common) up to Dyrham and Doynton and back and that was lovely. Got a rack for the car so looking to do a few rides further from home where I drive to my starting point.

I don’t like Strava either but I don’t know of a decent alternative that does running and cycling and gives you a decent analysis (map, performance info etc) as well as having a native Apple Watch app. I really like the Nike Run Club interface but I don’t really want to use one app for running and another for cycling.

Just doesn’t seem a lot of activity for an expensive shoe to me, though maybe I’m overreacting. To wear through 3/4 layers of fabric like that seems pretty poor for a premium shoe. I know you can’t compare walking to running but I’ve got a 3 year old £60 pair of work shoes that I spend 250 days a year in, 10 hours a day, that have barely got a mark on them and are as solid as the day they were bought. 50-60 hours for £100 pair of shoes seems poor by comparison but maybe I’m just tight!

400-500ish at a guess. Approx 45-60hrs running. Really doesn’t seem very good to me for a £100+ pair of shoes but I don’t know what the ‘norm’ is. Expected better. But the attitude of the shop was rubbish. Basically referred it to On, came back and said ‘On said no’ and then couldn’t be less interested when I told them I thought it was piss poor.

My advice after recent experience - avoid Up and Running and On shoes. Couldn't do enough for me when I was in the store spending cash but neither want to know now the shoes have worn prematurely and are unusable after 9 months use. According to On this is reasonable wear for the time period on a £108 pair of shoes - this is the inside of the heels by the way

Top work mate. Yeah I’ll be honest I don’t particularly like Strava. I find Nike run club much better which was free....with a £400 watch

    Runners!

Thanks mate. I also tried it straight into Strava on the watch and despite choosing auto-pause from the watch itself within the Strava app, it didn’t seem to do it.

@Silvio Dante no not tagging as anything. Here’s the run in NRC (treadmill running so no map....) Then I use an app called RunGap to export it into Strava - note that it pretty well matches the stats from NRC Then in Strava this is how it shows - it’s counted all the rest time so the pace is almost double

Does anyone know how to get Strava to record intervals properly? No matter what settings I choose (including auto-pause on my Apple Watch) it counts the rest time as running time and completely messes up my pace. Nike Run Club manages it ok on the watch but when you export it to Strava it shows a completely different average pace which factors in the rest time, so it’s showing say 8min/mi in NRC and 14min/mi in Strava?
  17. I’m not going to pretend to know the ins and outs of the situation, but suspect there’s an awful lot that those close to it - from both sides - know that we don’t.... Just seems a bit crass trying to score points on Cardiff about it when none of us know 1% of the situation.
  18. Of course but the transfer would have been formally concluded from a legal standpoint. Was the transfer formally concluded at the point Sala died? I genuinely don’t know. And even if it was, I imagine that Cardiff have been discussing it with their insurers to see if the insurer is on the hook for the fee. Has there ever been a precedent for this type of incident or is it unchartered territory from a legal/insurance perspective? Again, no idea. There’s all sorts of shady angles on this story, so let’s not kid ourselves that it’s a simple situation for the sake of point scoring against a rival. It’s pretty poor taste when a man has lost his life.
  19. With the greatest of respect, as much as I love a good Cardiff bashing, the entire affair is clearly considerably more complex than that.

Nothing wrong with that mate, get joined in, there’s no right or wrong pace or distance.

    Runners!

I started running again earlier this year and found it a fantastic way of helping my mental health after some tough personal circumstances. I jumped in at the deep end and entered ‘Miles for Mind’ in May and set an ambitious target of 125 miles to be ran in May (I was out of the country for 10 days) and finished on 129.1, with the highlight being a half marathon around East Midlands Airport one morning before work! It was torturous and I had to remind myself why I was doing it when I was on the verge of packing it in but I was over the moon to beat my target. Really enjoyed it in the warmer weather/lighter evenings when Icould get out and run along the railway path, a bit of calm and peace away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Not enjoying it so much now the darkness has forced me back to the gym to do it, I prefer running outside. But I’m doing an interval program in the gym which I enjoy, as it’s a lot easier to stick to a set speed/effort on the treadmill. I’m currently doing a 10 min warm up followed by 15 x 45 sec full pelt incline sprint and 45 sec recovery which breaks up the tedium.
  22. Working around that area and the traffic is already horrendous, although I guess you can say that about most areas of Bristol. Would need some serious traffic improvements you’d think, nothing moves around there at rush hour as it is Quite funny seeing all their fans on twitter trying to convince themselves that it’s not ‘ City territory’ because it’s near Eastville when it’s actually as close to AG as it is Eastville.
