Too damn right I would (with apologies for borrowing one of the great movie lines said by Jack Nicholson. Bonus point to anyone who can quote the exact comment and name the film)!

That has to be in the "You Can't Handle the Truth" speech in A Few Good Men

Mine is getting relegated by a team wearing your kit , nothing will ever top that for me

but the Wycombe celebrations the week before come mightily close

I can still hear those chants ringing in my ears

THE GAS ARE STAYING UP - THE GAS ARE STAYING UP

Nothing will top that for me either. I was laughing so hard at work yesterday reading all the comments, I had to explain myself to my staff. As Americans, I had to start with the basic stuff, the football pyramid, relegation and promotion, derby matches, etc... but once i laid the foundations and started telling them all the funny rovers stories I could think of, I had them all in stitches as well.

Thanks for that, I was gonna ask how come.  I relocated to Bristol 32 years ago and happened to move in with a City fan who convinced me to come to game.  He's moved away years ago, but left me with this obsession that I've now passed on to my kids too!! ?

It sounds nicer than saying "brainwashed" or "Stockholm Syndrome" ?

Hope you have a great trip over and get tickets for the games you'd like to see. ? I love that we have fans overseas coming to visit and cheers on the lads.  ??

You can blame a fellow City fan for that... he promised to take me to a match if I ever came over to visit, and silly me, I didn't even ask what team or anything. UK Border Control always gives me funny looks when I say I'm coming over for the footy and they ask what team I am going to see!

I've been to 12 matches in 5 trips since 2013.

I'm not sure Cardiff away will be impossible to get a ticket to. If you get/have a membership (£25) then that gets you priority over general sale and normally means you're only a day or two behind STholders in terms of when you can get a ticket. If you're organised I'd expect you could get one.

I do have a membership. I always buy one when I'm traveling over just to help out with getting tickets. I guess I was thinking the match always sold out at the season ticket stage.

If you contact Jerry SLO (supporters Liaison Office) I would have thought he could help you in getting a Cardiff ticket.

The Turtle's idea is a good one. We went to their old ground, Ninian Park, and had to sit in the main stand as I couldn't get away end tickets.  You no doubt, don't have a Bristolian accent so it won't be a problem. Just celebrate the goals and win when you get over the border afterwards!

I have reached out to the SLO, but no response yet. I know impatience is quite an American trait :)

All the fun of being a City away fan is the atmosphere and vibe, singing along, which would be missing if I sat in the home end. I am up to date on all of my immunizations though, just in case ;)

  7. I've been a City fan for 10 years now since my first trip across the pond in 2013, and I'll be returning later this fall for a couple weeks. I always try to take in a couple games, see some new grounds, etc but this time I've apparently picked awful dates for my trip :(

I'll be in England from October 27 - November 6, and the first weekend is unfortunately Cardiff away which I know will be impossible to get tickets to, so I'm looking for some alternative recommendations for that weekend. I thought maybe rugby, but I didn't see fixtures posted yet. Or women's league? Something non-league? I'm good to travel pretty much anywhere in the country.

Fingers crossed we make it to the 4th round of the Carabao Cup and get a nice draw, and I'll definitely be getting tickets to see us at home on November 4 against the Owls.

    Thanks in advance!

And does nobody else keep old tickets and want to continue to add to them?

Some digital file on a phone isn't quite the same.

I have all the tickets for all the matches I've attended over the past 10 years, and I hope to add to the collection when I hop across the pond later this year!

    JPT trophy?

If memory serves right that was Joe Morrell’s first start for the club. Lewis Dunk also started at centre half for us that night in a 2-1 defeat

    That's the one :)

It was an adventure. I flew from the US (after a week in Italy) and met a online friend who promised to take me to a game.

We missed the bus back to Reading, so we took a black cab (£££) and then I took the train back to London Paddington. I fell asleep on the train and woke up about 30 seconds before the train left for Cardiff! Waking up any later would have been terribly inconvenient.

Was that really almost 9 years ago? My, how time flies.

In America, once the NFL fixture list is announced it's "set in stone".The authorities state that the game is part of the entertainment sphere. Fans will have bought tickets and made travel arrangements, so the game must go on. That's why over there, game go ahead despite torrential rain, heavy snow and large injury lists. There was a NFL  game a few months back when home fans were asking "Who's he" as due to injuries their club had  fielded the 4th or 5th choice player in one position.

You can also buy tickets MONTHS in advance, something this American super struggled with when trying to see City on my trips across the pond.

  11. Merry Christmas from Alaska! As Santa leaves the North Pole for his annual trip, a winter storm is blowing in, potentially bringing us up to a metre of snow in the next week (with about 2/3 of that coming this weekend).

Perhaps we ought to go the way of American stadiums where everything is brought to you?

As an American, every sportsball game I've been to here has had in-seat service, which you do pay heavily for, so taking in my first game in England was a bit of a culture shock. What do you mean I have to go get it myself? But also, explains the obesity % of Americans compared to everywhere else in the world.

Is the highlighted bit in our hypothetical scenario the land value? If not, what is the 'collateral' in our scenario?

Ok, you're definitely in the business, like Bianconeri by the sounds of it. In lay mans terms why on earth would any financial organisation, lend money to a company (Dwayne sports) who have zero assets, while incurring regular losses, to build something that has no collateral value to the lender and no guarantee of a return? As a second question, why would any lender be interested when the revenues are supposedly guaranteed by the performance of a 3rd party (Bristol bloody r*vers)?

It sounds utterly mad to even think about lending this scheme money? There are far too many risks aren't there?

In laymans terms, no financial organization would want to lend money to a company with zero assets, inadequate cash flow, especially with specialized collateral that cannot be liquidated to offset the potential chargeoff of the loan. I'm pretty sure we are on the same page here. It's an extremely risky investment.

Isn't that why they are looking more for a private investor as a bank wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole?

The lender would need to be certain that the foot club will exist through the term of the deal otherwise the lender would be in the Brown stuff.

I work in commercial lending (in the USA), but we certainly look at the attractability of the collateral to help determine if we are going to do the loan and at what interest rate. It's one thing to end up repossessing a commercial building; we can sell it or keep it and rent it out for cash flow. It's another thing entirely to take specialized collateral that has no market. Not only do we end up charging off the loan balance and lose the income stream of interest payments, but now we own something with no value as we can't sell it. A triple loss, really. So, we charge a lot more interest and even a higher origination fee to help offset that, unless we decline the loan in the first place.
