  1. Name a better comeback. I'll wait.
  2. Yeh that was "Harry's Heroes" iirc. Good show that struck a good balance between football nostalgia and exploring the issues that many men live with every day. The new show just highlights how the issues are ongoing.
  3. I've just watched the documentary on the BBC with Paul Merson, in which he talks about and explores the effects of his gambling addiction on his, and others' lives. It's arresting, excellent, gentle, and concerning. Paul is very honest, and open, about the challenges he lives through daily. The program is here: Paul Merson: Football, Gambling & Me: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0010l43 A couple of supporting articles here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/sport/football/58859342.amp And here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.skysports.com/amp/football/news/11095/12431849/paul-merson-on-his-gambling-documentary-i-just-wanted-to-help-one-person If anyone is suffering in a similar way to Paul then please know that you're suffering isn't unique. Many others have sought and recieved help for this issue, and you can as well. The first thing is to talk. I've added this into this thread rather than start a new one as I expect that any new thread would swiftly descend into a circular discussion over the various merits of advertising various vices. By putting this into this thread I hope discussion can be limited to actually helping anyone that watches the show and sees something they recognise in themself.
  4. Could someone kindly ask RG how the Club is working with the EFL, Sky, Hummel, and our opponents, to help ensure that the kits used in our matches are colourblind friendly.
  5. And nearly 100 years ago people complained about Arsenal being the "Bank of England" club. People have been moaning about money in football for longer than anyone can remember.
  6. Whether or not @shahanshahan and their mates do a podcast or make a thread on here has nothing to do with the popularity of the women's game. The club have decided to run a women's football team. Therefore Bristol City Women's is a part of the club. The football club. Same as the u23s, the walking football team, the disabled team etc. As such it's more than appropriate have threads in this forum in which those who want to talk about it can do so. For my part - I don't watch the women's team, and with apologies to the people behind it, I don't listen to Vixencast. But those that do - fair play and crack on.

    Snus?

And you feel it too. It's strong stuff.

    Snus?

I've got a Swedish mate and every one of his uncles has a small crater eroded in the upper part of their mouth. Years of packing the little packets, or for some of them raw unpacketed snus, into the bit between their upper gum and upper lip. Pretty rank.
  9. Not sure we know for certain that it's the same player at the bottom of the graph in both pre-season and then the second graph. It's reasonable to suspect that it might be...but it could be that one guy really caught up with the pack, and another dropped off badly.
  10. There were a couple of things that Rennie mentioned that I had to google. I therefore present a brief glossary that may be of use to others: Posterior Chain - The posterior chain refers to all the muscles on the backside of the body from the back of your head all the way down to your heels, including your hamstrings, glutes, calves, lats, rotator cuff muscles, and erector spinae muscles (the muscles that run down either side of your spine). KBox - The kBox is a series of premium devices for flywheel training, based on sound scientific support. The latest generation of the kBox comes in three different models, namely the kBox4 Active, kBox4 Lite and kBox4 Pro. https://exxentric.com/products/kbox/ Nordic - Kneel down, cross your arms over your chest, get your Mrs to hold your ankles, then lean forward whilst holding your body (from the knee up) dead straight. Ludicrously hard. RDL - I assume he means a Romanian Deadlift. Get a nice big Olympic bar, stick about 40kg or more on each end. Wide grip, stand tall, slight bend in the knee and lower the bar down to half way down your shin, keeping it close to your shins as you do so and sticking your arse out. Cracking hamstring strengthener. Everyone should do them.
  11. IIRC it was roughly this time last season that the wheels started coming off. The injuries began to compound and we began a death spiral that ultimately saw Holden et al depart.
  12. Biggest issue last year was the rehab and reintroduction of injured players. Essentially we seemed to rehab poorly, and reintroduce too early, and so we had players get recurring or new injuries. Williams probable the most egregious example. This season, and I note that the season is just 11 league games old, we seem to be doing better in this regard. Williams came back, got a knock in the FGR game, and then was managed back so that now (touch wood) he seems able to play consistently.
  13. Sat there in his 2017/18 training top, cigar in hand, just yelling at the analysts to ditch Helvetica.
  14. Would not have thought Nige was the kind of guy to tolerate Comic Sans being used at the Club...but yet here we all are.
  15. EFL podcasts are so tricky. I'm not sure anyone has yet cracked how to give fair coverage to 72 teams playing 36 games a weekend whilst also getting enough listeners to make it worthwhile. My go to is The Totally Football League Show. Its far from perfect, a bit focused on 8 or so 'big' championship teams, and 2 or 3 from each of L1 and L2. However, they do well to get good interviews with a range of managers, and generally I find it OK to listen to. Such a tough brief though.
  16. The thread OP asks if we're happy with Pearson. My answer is yes, because he's taken us from dire to average. When I say we are "average" I mean the whole squad, over the course of 11 games. If you pick out individual players then of course some are performing above average and others aren't. Take that as a whole...and we're mediocre. I like stats, but you brought them into this particular conversation so I'll add a few more. One clean sheet in 11 games. Average shots allowed: 14. QPR shots on target against us? 11. These numbers are just as bad as any positives that you put on the table are good, including your (debatable) claim that "We consistently create enough chances to score 2-3". Therefore, and again I want to be clear that I am assessing the team as a whole, we are average. Some bits good, some bad. If you want to interpret my "standards" as expecting a top Premier league style team...well that's the fault of your interpretation rather than my statements.
  17. Competitive is a good word if you want to use one that's more positive than 'average'. Like it.
  18. And against Millwall in mid-week we had 11 shots with just 1 on target, and we lost. That does not mean we are bad, just as yesterday doesn't mean we're a winning machine. We can all pluck a statistic out of the air if we want. We're average, we're inconsistent, we're developing. That's OK. Average is not bad, inconsistent means we'll win about as much as we lose, and development is a positive thing. Honestly, maybe the following helps. I'd say at the moment we are about a 6 out of 10...but the fact that Pearson has got us to that level means he probably gets an overall 9 out of 10. Whilst as a squad we're average, he's been well above average in order to achieve that. Does that make sense? I'd also say that at this early stage I'm not too concerned about league position or how many points off the playoffs we are. It's the least important indicator of ability right now. Goal difference is a better aspect, and we've got +1 after 11 games...which is distinctly average.
  19. We're a distinctly average team. That's a huge improvement on last season. Going in the right direction though so after being cold on his appointment I'm happy with the job he's done so far this season. Hopefully he can take us on to the next level as well.
  20. Cheers mate, my thoughts above. Finally, if anyone reading this thread thinks they or a family member or friend might be colourblind, I suggest reading this website https://www.colourblindawareness.org/. You could also speak to an optometrist who can help you with the (quite fun) Ishihara test.
  21. Didn't Short sell Sunderland a few years ago?
