    Unfortunately true………….:sad26:

The journey to play off final was spectacular tho - who can forget the semi final against Hartlepool and Roberts winning goal?  The greatest “buzz” ever!

But in the final against Brighton we were shit.

This seems to me like one of those “the sun always shone when I was at school” posts.

I always admired Owers’ effort, but truth is he was nothing special, he played midfield in the side that got relegated & then in League One filled in a fair bit at RB. Certainly of the current squad Matty James is at the very least as good as him.

Owers certainly put in everything he had but he was fairly limited, Martin Scott on the other hand was the best LB I have seen play for us, better than Barnard, Brennan, McAllister, Bell or Bryan.

He was a worthy captain of our 1997-98 promotion side IMHO.

And I agree wholeheartedly with Offside about his qualities as a pundit on RB. Always well worth listening to his take on a game.

Surely though if found guilty, whether he goes to prison or not,  the FA would charge him with something? Bringing the game into disrepute?

Can the FA charge him with being a horrible little knob?

They certainly ought to remove it, if he is found guilty.

Apparently Mr Barton has said that he didn't assault Daniel Stendel because it's not in his nature to do so and that he will "chin any ****** who cares to call me a liar to my face".

Mr Barton's defence counsel has requested an urgent recess.

If he gets acquitted then I would like to fight him! ??

  5. It will be:

    Pearson leaving for health reasons;

Fleming to take temporary charge whilst the club carries out a “careful, thorough and rigorous” recruitment process for a successor.

I’ll stake my tadger on it.

A reason why Coppell was such a failure at Ashton Gate is that SL said he must keep on Keith Millen as his No. 2 rather than bring in his own team.

At Reading, where Coppell enjoyed so much success, he was supported in training by Wally Downes, a  member of Wimbledon's Crazy Gang and who worked under Coppell for many years as a coach at Palace after injury cut short his playing career. Off the field activity, i.e. transfers, were handled by former goalkeeper Nicky Hammond. Talk was that Coppell was rarely seen on the training ground but would inspire a winning mentality in the dressing room on match day.

When Nige arrived here the transfer dealings were handled by MA and he was expected to work with relative newcomers Downing & Simpson. Were Craig Shakespeare not assistant to Dean Smith at Villa I think Nige would have had him here like a shot and were he available I think we'd have had Steve Walsh here in player recruitment despite the extra cost compared with what we have now.

We're not seeing the best of Nigel IMHO because he doesn't have Shakespeare's support - maybe that could change if Villa go on a bad run and Smith is axed along with his team!!

Well said Headhunter. I’ve been having similar thoughts myself. Clough without Taylor is a very good comparison (as the film The Damned United shows, for those who are too young to remember Clough & Taylor’s managerial heyday in the 1970s).

I was chuffed to bits when Nigel was first appointed, and really want him to do well. Whilst I am still behind him, I can’t deny I am starting to have the odd doubt.
