  1. I was in the Leppings Lane End but very top row. I remember we came alive in the second half and probably deserved a draw but lost one nil. Danny Wilson was manager of Sheff Wednesday about a year before he took over at Ashton Gate. Wednesday were in the Premier League relegation zone and City in League One
  2. That is brilliantly put. Well done and I fully agree.
  3. I've been near the top of the Upper Lansdown and know what you mean, but have to say it's not as steep as some grounds. At Hillsborough back in 1999, I think, in the cup under Pulis, I was in the very back row and kept holding onto the back of the stand. I don't think it was until about 25 minutes of the match left that I let go of the thing and stopped feeling dizzy. It was so steep I kept feeling like I could easily fall to the tier below. I'm not one for those steep stands at all.
  4. I couldn't agree more. The top three, effectively, on that list for least percentage of losses include two, Brian Tinnion and Danny Wilson, who never managed a game at this level and one, Cottrell, who had a half season at this level that was so bad that he was relieved of his duties despite having walked the League One title just months earlier. It's daft as it's not a level playing field
  5. Let me know how this goes as it looks good and I will be interested for a friend cough cough
  6. All the best to you Marvin keep your spirits up
  7. Slightly similar situation to when City got promoted under Ward and bought Soren Anderson, Tony Thorpe and Ade Akinbiyi. All big money signings (although Anderson was remarkably cheap considering his calibre). It was over concentration in one area when other areas needed to be addressed. All three were great players but at most only two could be played and it was discovered that none of them complimented each other's play, so Steve Torpey had one of the striker berths as he brought out the best in which of the three was chosen to play alongside him (usually Akinbiyi). It was very bad planning. Anderson understandably left and I think Thorpe would've too had we been able to recoup half of the million we paid out. Thankfully he remained and showed his worth the following season etc after Akinbiyi had been sold. Similarly, we went top heavy in Sammie's position as we already had Patterson and then brought in Palmer for megabucks.
  8. Very sad news all the best with a full recovery.
  9. Oddly enough that 1968 Cup Final finished three nil to the team in white....although really it was one nil an extra time winner from Astle but they replayed it twice.
  10. WBA and Everton switched to their second kits for the 1968 FA Cup Final, WBA played in white with red socks and Everton yellow shirts and socks with blue shorts. Although it didn't really matter as the vast majority watched it in black and white.
  11. I'm so glad I wrote to Alan Hardaker in 1975 telling him to delay the introduction of 3 points for a win for six years.
  12. I've just done some calculations and figured out that you have done the former and added the points won at the time so it will be a bit skewered as there are two points and three points for a win in the totals.
  13. How did you assemble the points, from points actually awarded so in the days of two points for a win you added two points, then when it became three points for a win you added three points, or did you convert two point victories into three points although at the time City never had that amount of points?
  14. Didn't they sign Ken Wagstaff from Mansfield in 1964 as well?
  15. To be fair, yes Rovers were bottom of Div 3 South when the final ball was kicked in the 1939-40 season, but due to Hitler's invasion of Poland the season was abandoned after just three matches.
  16. Glad it wasn't just me. A few minutes earlier the picture froze and I am just wondering if after that we were being fed pictures a second or two behind the audio. As you said, Pearce was telling us the penalty kick had been saved the moment the ball was about to be struck by the taker.
  17. Quite agree and to compound it a second yellow too. I wish a referee when told by VAR to check on the monitor would be brave enough to stick with their original decision rather than submitting to the whims of the VAR official.
  18. From what I have read on here about the shambles at St Andrews I'm guessing it was their first team.
  19. And we bought him back, via Leicester, in 1976/77 for the exact same amount.
  20. Paul Allen played for us. Clive Allen had part of a pre-season with us and played in an away friendly game I am sure it was against a league club. I think he might even have scored, but he decided to quit the game as he was no longer fit enough. A few years later I think he was on Sky Sports when Bristol City were mentioned and Clive Allen chipped in by saying that he played his last game for Bristol City (albeit that it was a pre-season friendly). Coincidentally, Clive Allen made his first league appearance as a sub against Bristol City at Ashton Gate where he was marked by Norman Hunter
  21. I think Clive Allen's last game for a professional club was for us in a pre-season friendly.
  22. Norway have brought on a more defensive player for the second half. You can see they're going to try and restrict England to about ten
  23. I think Cashley was still with City then. I have found highlights of the game and Ipswich definitely equalised to make it 2-2 with a late goal. Turner scored both their goals. Nogbad's memory is partially correct but instead of seeing dejected Rovers fans because they thought they had lost 1-2 and didn't know about a late Rovers equaliser, they were dejected because they had conceded a late equaliser.
