Collier was Bristolian, Horfield lad.
Garland coming home from Leicester completed the trio AD brought in to help the promotion squad stay up, with Hunter & Cormack all were excellent signings, Chris’ late burst of goals that year saved us.
Fitzpatrick was later on (& not very good).
Joe Royle 4 on debut wasn't it?

17 starts in the league, 12 missed out injured, under a manager who a lot of people would have here in an instant. Got to be something about his play other than goals, assists.....

Which way the teams play is decided at the ko by a coin toss. City obviously lost and the Foxes, like all visiting teams would have been fully aware which way City like to play, namely towards the SS in the second half and that’s why they changed it - it’s more psychological than anything else.
Or more likely the sun was in the keepers face it being a lunchtime kickoff, so gave Max that problem

The Szcmodics signing was fine. It was the idiotic decision to spend £4 million or so on Palmer a few days later, that made no sense.
One for the fans as was Tomlin.

One big problem I have with Manning is the impression that he does what he does for Manning. If he was successful here he’d be off at the drop of a hat for a bigger gig.
Pearson had nothing to prove and did what he believed best for the greater good of everyone. A leader of men.
How can a bloke who’s achieved the total sum of bugger all in his career really tell , for example, Premier League winners James and King how to play football ?
Or give enough confidence to the youngsters that they will succeed with his coaching ?Massive cock up from our owner. Bullet meet foot.
Exactly this. It's about him and his tactical ability to outsmart the opponent. How well the team did this or that according to the way he set them up. As I think DaveFevs said elsewhere, he's always tinkering and changing according to the opposition rather than let the opposition blink first - because he has to outthink them rather than just outplay them. LJ was exactly the same - head-to-head with Mourinho for example, looking forward to taking on Pep - he said as much at the time. Maybe this is what's behind winning and losing streaks, perhaps .....

Of course he was involved. He indicated such on his SOTC car crash. And as I said yesterday, whatever people think Tinnion is/isnt responsible for the one absolute is that as the football man in the hierarchy it was his job to do the due diligence on Manning, and he failed spectacularly.
And now both Tinnion and Manning know they’re under pressure and one or both of them are likely to go. So you’ll see a lot of things like Ian changing tack as it’s now about survival for them.
He did, he name-checked Richard Keogh on Radio Bristol at the time of the appointment! That's the level we are at.

Same here. Logged on, followed the link, both ST holders showing, ticked both, 2 tickets bought all within about 90 seconds.
Me too. No problem fortunately

Just provided a lengthy description during a break in play of the forgotten cup tie, 50 years ago when we beat Leeds. Said he sat in the dressing room afterwards between Gerry Gow and Ernie Hunt, one of the best days of his life. Recommended listeners should look it up.

Are you taking the mick now,if your eyesight is that bad that you can’t pass because the crowd are wearing dark colours then I bloody hope these players don’t drive a car in the dark
Sir Alex Ferguson made exactly the same point when ManU played in grey and said they would never again.

The timing was odd, so I believe something else must have happened, but again, we will never know.
If they were not going to renew NP's contract, then I don't really see a more convenient time, given they would not be buying in the January window if not keeping the manager. Had to give the new man time to assess the squad first before window. So, timing was as good as it would get IMO.

I listened to the match on RB, I went to Highbury the following season when we were 4-1 down after about 20 minutes but thankfully it remained that way.
As for the RB coverage I just remember it being updates with Herbie Gilliam, I think, on a phone every 10 to 15 minutes. I cannot remember if they announced that a goal had been scored and then went over especially to Highbury, or if they announced as the next report was due that a goal had been scored in that time. What I do recall is they never seemed to say who the goal had been scored for, it was left to the reporter to inform us at the start of his report.
Yeh, Liam Brady destroyed us!

Nice article, good read.

Sheridan told Somerset’s Alive!: “I have had my fair share of criticism too and that takes some getting used to. You have to realise you are not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and take feedback on board.
“But, I also get a huge amount of support and for that I am grateful. I give it my all and can honestly say I work hard to be prepared for every game and situation. I also hope my passion for the game comes across.”

I’m confident, despite any media noises, we have a plan B and Nige is in on it. Did he want to keep Alex? Course, we all did. But he also wanted to keep Antoine in January, and within hours of him leaving we had Anis and Harry in the door. If you work on the basis this has been afoot since Percy mooted it last week, wheels will have been in motion. I would not be shocked if plan B arrives in the next week.
And it had better include a goalkeeper
He's previously said we have a plan if he stays and we have a plan if he goes - so I think your confidence is well founded.

I saw aspects in Sam’s game today that I’ve never seen in the u23s/u21s. There were a couple of things he did back to goal at Rotherham also.
He’s surprised me, not gonna lie.
Furlong is a streetwise Championship RB, and he was made to look poor today.
Well done Sam.
Reminds me of a young Michael Owen when he burst on the scene ......
BTW I can see Kal Naismith slotting into that midfield role like Tinns in his last few playing years - with the young one's around him to do the running. Left foot just as good ....

I’m sure he has had an impact yet there were green shoots during the last half/third of the year. Pearson has been working on the club culture for sometime. There was talk years ago of “5 pillars” strategy from the previous bluffers - if anyone is putting the foundations in for success at this club it’s been Pearson. As many have said previously, we wasted about 3 years towards the end of LJ’s reign and the appointment of Holden. There no doubt will be losses on the bounce at some point but I remain comfortable that the culture and character that has been improved will see us out of it and bounce back quickly.
Worth watching the Arsenal documentary. Arteta had/has a clear vision around the non negotiables and culture. I believe our situation is very similar. Patience was so important.
There was much derision on here about the 5 pillars, somewhat unfairly IMO. One of those related to the pathway from academy to 1st team. NP has inherited this and benefitting from it.

Why are there no fixtures for u-23's shown on the website? I didn,t even know they were playing today.
Is there something sininister going on with this team? There were no tickets available for the last 3 games of last season,
because ithey were apparently sold out, although i never actually saw them on sale. If you watched those games on Robins
TV, there was hardly any supporters there, so how could they be sold out.
I have mentioned this on 2 occassions now to Jerry when i have seen him at 1st team games, perhaps if he reads this he could give me
an answer.
Maybe because it was U21s today

Thought so. Add to that the Right Reverend George Carey, the Bishop of Bath & Wells (but not the Baby-Eating Bishop of Bath & Wells), who would go on to be Archbishop of Canterbury, and is now Baron Carey of Clifton, and it was quite an illustrious road, Ormerod, back then. There was a Graveney there too at some point, but not Dave or Tom.
Wonder where the Rovers manager lived back then - Shire, perhaps?
David's brother lived around the corner in Reedley Road. David, I believe, bought a new-build flat overlooking the County Ground. Could watch for free! Also, Bill Athey lived off Reedley Road when he played for Glos. I think some of the current Bears may be nearby as well. Going back, Norman Hunter was nearby as were the Mabbutts.
