This is bringing back some great old memories. Unfortunately, my memory now is not that great!

I can think of a couple of late night venues that I used to frequent but can't remember their names, so any input is appreciated.

First one was next to the Hippodrome, Denmark Street I think. Late drinks and ladies.

Second one was Prince Street, right next to the old Post Office.

    Both were brilliant.

It was Chaplins above and next to the Hippodrome...they moved there from Fairfax Street. As a matter of interest, the Fools and Horses scene with the blow up doll was filmed at the back entrance to the club!

    Chaplins, that's the bugger.

    Nice one fellas.

Owned and run by Martin and Sue....big City fans.,(Sue being famous for proving she was a Bristol 'City' fan at the Mansfield game at Wembley a year later).  After losing the away leg at Hereford in the Freight Rover semi final, Martin promised champagne to the City players if we got to the final in the home leg. True to his word, straight after the game, back to Chaplins to celebrate with the players arriving around midnight. Remember having a long chat with David Moyes who was comparing our rivalry with the gas, with  Celtic/Rangers saying it was just as intense and David Harle being absolutely rat arsed! Think I remember getting home around 4am. a great night.

Unfortunately, Stuart Taylor, a long-serving centre half for our blue friends during the late 1960s and 1970s has passed away.

Many of the younger posters on this thread will probably never have heard of him, but I had the pleasure of meeting him on more than one occasion, and I can assure you all he was a most charming man, a perfect gentleman.

Believe it or not, Stuart actually started his career playing for Bristol City.

    RIP.

Wasn't he well known for being the tallest player in the football league in his day....6ft 5" I think.

I remember an evening back in the early 70s when we played the Gloucestershire Senior Professional Cup Final at Eastville, in the  days when it was a big deal and both teams put out a first team. Our forward line scored the first four leaving Skirton, no 7, the odd one out and they fed him until he got the fifth...happy days and not much has changed.

Galley, Garland, Kellard, Sharpe and Skirton!...I was there too.

A large bottle of Glenmorangie, a crate of Guinness, £500 in used notes and a personal written apology form Chris Garland for that header may loosen my lips.

Can anyone find any footage of that Chris Garland header...I think it was the 6-1 victory back in the eighties....possibly Anglo Scottish cup or something. That must rate right up with the best piss takes ever...even better than the Matty Taylor transfer.

Sorry Miah, but you've rekindled a great memory mentioning that.

So was I, biggest memory was the Chester PA announcer inviting all city fans onto the pitch to applaud our team. Can you imagine a similar invitation in today's football?

Was there too...remember a banner saying...'so Jesus said come forth...and so we did'!  Think it was Trevor Morgan who got both goals?
