Agree with a lot of the post, but a constant stream of loans is not the way forward. We need earlier results. You’re either good enough or not. We can no longer financially afford to support players until they are 24/25 in the hope they will make it.

We also don’t want a mentality in the Academy squad that you can have a professional contract with us beyond 21 or 22 if you haven’t broken into the first team squad. We need to drop this being a ‘nice’ Club and start being ruthless, like the rest. Ok, we may end up losing a ‘gem’ for every 60 odd players that leave but, conversely, disposing of players frees the budget up for a scouting system that can spot players elsewhere in the football pyramid that have greater potential than some of our own.

Using our ‘traditional’ approach the likes of Conway and Scott would now be on loan out at Newport, Grimsby or Ross County and the likes instead of being the two most outstanding players we have in our first team.

Agree with you here but some players need a bit more and I think Low maybe one of those.

Ironically Ryley Towler is out on loan and thriving but would probably be in our 1st team, certainly ahead of Low, had he still been here.

  2. You have to feel sorry for Low, he's a victim of Pearson's reluctance to let players go out on loan.

Low should be out on loan playing league 2 football and gaining experience, instead he's here and getting thrown in before he's ready because of injuries, illness and the lack of an option 2.

Was surprised by Bajic who looks way off.

Kadji was exposed in midfield, got no help at all from King who should alongside Martin be left out to pasture now, neither are good enough anymore.

Sykes' confidence is clearly shot, don't think Pearson has helped there either, Dasilva is another who seems to be have no confidence.

We should've gone strong in the 1st half, won the game and then introduced the youngsters into a winning confident atmosphere.

I can't see what Pearson is bringing to party, with everyone else picking up points and results we are only heading in one direction at the moment.

I work in the Construction Industry in Bristol. There isn’t a great deal in the above even resembling accuracy. A lot of conjecture in there. I’d say his “Property Contact” is one of they gurt Ted’s having a bit of fun.

Has the land been purchased yet? That’s not a ten minute exercise even after agreeing a price. When the land is purchased there will be 101 surveys required before you can even think about building a football stadium. Hope Wally has plenty of 50p’s down the back of his sofa for that.

As others have said there is the small matter of Planning Permission to be obtained. You don’t just phone up the Council and they “oh yeah, love the scheme, when can you start”? There will need to a formal application made, a consultation period to factor in. Opposition is as guaranteed as night follows day. Amendments may need to be made to the original scheme in for planning which mean resubmission. Bristol Planning Department is notoriously slow in reacting to anything. Anyone remember Ashton Vale?

After getting Planning Permission you need to work up the design in DETAIL and check costs at every stage. If costs go too far North you have to Value Engineer but within the constraints of the Planning Permission otherwise it’s a resubmission.

There will no doubt be significant associated infrastructure works that have to be provided with the scheme.

They will need to tender the works which can be done without planning but adds to risk. Tenders need to be examined, a preferred bidder identified, contract terms agreed.

The best bit, they have to get full funding in place but will need significant funding up front as there is a lot of cost before you’ve even dug a trench. They will have planning conditions to discharge before they start such as detailed Transport Plans.

There will be a mobilisation period before works commence. Construction contracts can be high risk, as much mitigation of that as you can make doesn’t guarantee there won’t be delays or unknown issues not picked up in surveys. A bloody bird could nest at just the wrong time (gives me an idea?).

There is lots more in addition to the above. The point being this isn’t the five minute exercise they think it is......even if his Property Contact convinced him it was!!

The only sporting related tender going around at the moment is the training ground at failand

I would be interested to know just how wide your social circle would need to be to meet three people that moved to Bristol for work, decided to go to both Bristol clubs before choosing one to follow and then all chose the ramshackle bunch.

That Henbury bloke must meet a lot of people!

To be fair my boss did exactly that but it was around 1970 and in all the time I've worked for him all he's ever done is moan about them ??

  7. When I read on here that there were fans who still peddled and believed that wally and family were uber rich I didn't actually believe it. However in the pub for darts I've just been told that they are probably the richest club in the country SOUTH of MANCHESTER. The family own the national bank of Jordan and are worth over £9 Billion but they just won't spend any. He genuinely believes this.

I'm so gobsmacked that I haven't been able to speak to him since. I have to admit I couldn't stop the stupid grin and giggle as he said it and now I can't look at him without wondering how they believe this shit but I suppose it's because they fall for this nonsense that they're in this position in the first place. To be fair my gas supporting team mates don't believe that.

Funnily enough, I was chatting to someone tonight that knows a few of the 40 in the White Hart on Sunday. Apparently, he saw them in the Spoons in Staple Hill before the match and was invited to go down town with them. He politely declined stayed drinking in Staple Hill.

He then was drinking in Bar 501 afterwards when they came limping into said bar nursing numerous wounds. He asked what happened and was told they got a hiding off some City fans in town.

The best part is there were some of the R*vers youth that were giving it large in town but got on their toes at the first sign of trouble (sound familiar?) who were also in Bar 501. The blokes who got a hiding then started on them for running and it descended into an all out brawl between the Fewers in Staple Hill high street.

Not only did they get a hiding in town, the ones that ran then got one in Staple Hill.

    Utter morons to a man.

And not to be forgotten, Bar 501 is owned by City fans

  9. Interesting thread on one of their forums about whether or not they should go bankrupt and start again rising through the leagues like a phoenix and take their rightful place in the Championship as a dept free club.

I know their imagination is amazing isn't it?

Anyway I thought I'd share this post.

We should never 'chose' to bankrupt the Club. It is unethical and screws local businesses. We should never stoop to what the sh*t did in 1982. We remain on the moral high ground in Bristol and it's always good look down on that lot south of the river for their disgusting behaviour. BRFC has been around for 135 years. The sh*t have no history.
However - you raise a valid point. Dwane Sports could sell the Mememorial Stadium and effectively leave BRFC debt-free and homeless. Even I don't think this will happen. I am pretty damn sure that the Bankers who own our Club are well aware of the option. OK - Dwane Sports cut and run. A chance for fan ownership? (Vaughan has some ideas on this).
At this point - pretty sure we would slide down the leagues. We would have to rent somewhere to play. Obviously this is the (unlikely) nightmare scenario.
But - Does it kill the Club? Nope. We become 'like' a phoenix Club... a chance to start again with a clean sheet. Could a Club ever recover from this? Well there are plenty of examples of this happening - Wimbledon being the best. And remember they have a far smaller support base than us.
As long as I have a team to support in north Bristol who play in blue & white quarters and have a proud history going back to 1883 - I can live with that. The UWE was the big one that got away. It was a chance for us to establish ourselves in a higher division. Maybe the UWE numbers never stacked up, we'll never know. FTG.

So they have the moral high ground?

Amazes me how they can blank out so much of their clubs behaviour.

I don’t get it bob, you seem to be a ‘mature’ fan, can you not see why people would want a crowd of zero at that match?

I’d bloody hope we would do if we were in the same position.

edit: With our history of travelling up and down the leagues they may actually be doing us a favour if they can get shot of the ‘premier b’ side bollocks in the lower leagues.

I’ll laugh as long and hard as the next City fan but this is not where to do it if you value football imo.

Have to say I agree with you on this, although it's funny that we took 300+ more to a London game than they had at a home game. If we were in that tournament I would boycott any game against an U23 team.

  11. With the my little pony film due out in a weeks time. There are demonstrations planned at Longwell Green cinema. Apparently the rovers supporters club shop in Kingswood have teamed up with the Flowerpot and organised a coach, sorry mini bus, opps mini. They plan to blockade the doors, sorry 1 door.

They say the film portrays orses the wrong light and that they are vicious nasty animals with a hatred for a all things blue and white and should be locked up with the key thrown away. Showing these animals as clean and light and fluffy should not be allowed.

The organiser of the protest, who has asked to remain nameless has said he is prowed that none of of his family and friend will be seeing the film, was heard to be muttering 'ard luck the shiiit' as he was trying to locate the Vue cinema on a map but apparently all he could find was Aspects Leisure Park.

I am now currently Commercial Director at Bristol Rovers Football Club, responsible for all of the clubs revenue streams. So far, I've performed seemingly impossible tasks like getting fat people eating pies.

This bit is the 1st time I've ever laughed out loud at anything on here. Bravo sir Bravo

I don't feel sorry for him or the slags.  Wally - and by extension the lemmings who hang on his every word as the gospel - have made their bed, now they must lie in it.  And sadly for them, they will lie in it.  And continue to lie in it.  While being trampled over by a fraudster.  If he and his family - experts in finance don't forget - were as savvy as the blue few like to make out they would have sussed out UWE as a dud before ever agreeing to take over Rovers.  That they didn't speaks volumes.

Wally has been very lucky that the dog botherer has pulled off some magic over the past two seasons.  Its allowed the lack of action to be hidden.

Oh well, as least for us it's great fun.  Cant wait for the smoke and mirrors that will be soon deployed to delay the tarting up of the Mem.  They have no plan and now it will all be made up on the hoof.

I should've said almost beginning to feel sorry. I think he's a figure head, a puppet or tool being used by his family, I suspect he's always banged on about grandiose dreams of having his own successful club and taking it to the top so they can play his heroes at Chelsea. The rest of his more savvy family have seen an opportunity to make money, that's gone titsup and want out before they lose any. This could be a long and very messy affair for the blue few and I think there could be quite a few casualties along the way.

  14. I'm beginning to feel sorry for Wally, I think he got involved with the best intentions but from what I've heard he can front up as much as he wants he really has no say.

The eldest brother holds the purse strings, he pulled the plug on UWE because the revenue strings weren't good enough and has had enough and wants out.

Wally can go on the radio and TV and talk about the mem and safe standing as much as he wants, they won't be spending any more significant money on the sags.
