  1. I was there too - had just moved to Yorkshire and was able to miss work and see the match. Happy memories of a great day.
  2. Decent first half, but Watford do look dangerous, especially on the break. Mostly good defending and Max saved a certain goal. Need to be sharper and quicker in midfield though.
  3. No, 'human verification pops up and doesn't respond so viewing is blocked
  4. Don't forget, we're dealing here with people who think we've a top six squad. Not all decisions are likely to be rational.
  5. I don' think Pearson's allowed at the gate now
  6. Thanks Silvio and Maan - that's definitely the date, but failing memory let me down on the score. It's helped me fix another important date in my life, which is what I was after.
  7. City lost 3-2 to Rovers at Eastville in December 1963. Does anyone know exactly on which date that was?
  8. I aw today Millwall doing what so many others do, but we never do; having a man, usually a midfielder, alone in space as an outlet. Is this due to our poor positioning both in marking and movement, or do other teams just practise this in training? Also other team's defenders when heading under pressure nearly always find a fellow player - our heading seems directionless and random.
  9. I had a maths teacher called Mrs Griffiths - she's the one I recall.
  10. Was the teacher with the nose 'Rudolph', my Latin teacher? I can't remember his surname. The houses in 1959 were Dehns, Trotts, Bookers, Lucas's, Osbornes and Meighs. When I left in 1964 Osbornes had changed to Warrens. By the way, for anyone interested all the back numbers of the Chronicle are now online with other items as well. Brought back many memories as I trawled through my years there.
  11. Ha! Hard running centre eh? I mostly remember standing around shivering but I did play centre and also flanker on occasion. I don't recall Mr Lucas being very enthusiastic about my playing but I was looking at my old school reports the other day and he gave me a very kindly farewell on my final one, saying I helped with coaching the juniors which I don't remember at all. Sorry not to recall you, but as I said, my memory isn't what it was and I was looking at a photo on the BGS archive last week of all the teachers in my final year and I only recognised two or three of them. Sorry, forgot to say that I did live in Southfield Road, Westbury in those days. Down in Devon now.
  12. Hi Richard, I'm sorry but the name doesn't ring a bell, but maybe that's due to age! I'm Steve Bumstead; I don't think I made a school team very often, 3rd XV mostly but I seem to remember we had house matches most Saturday afternoons. Perhaps the old memory is letting me down again.
  13. I was in Lucas's house too, and I think we must be exact contemporaries as I was there 1953-64 (including Junior School). I missed so many matches at Ashton Gate because we often had games on Saturday afternoons. So frustrating, playing Rugby in the mud and rain on Failand and hearing the roars from the Gate ( yes, there were roars in those days).
  14. Yes, I had Mr Osborne as a form and German master too. Good bloke.
  15. Ditto - I was at BGS too, but didn't get given any time off that day
  16. Superb first half. Winning possession time after time when we shouldn't - Watford being very sloppy at times and City just on song.
  17. I'll never forget my only visit to Watford; must have been in the mid 1960s. Bad weather and a very heavy pitch. Late in the game a hopeful boot upfield found Big John on his own just past the half-way line and as he ran he seemed to get slower and slower in the mud. I never thought he'd make it, but just as the defenders caught up with him he lashed a fantastic shot into the net from the edge of the area for the winner. What a day.
  18. From the replay on TV Tanner clearly got the ball and then the attacker fell over his legs
