  1. A night I’ll always remember and enjoy reminiscing about.

I’ll never forget 3 minutes into the game, the guy who sits behind me (still does, sadly) berating (as he did every week) Marlon Pack

“get closer to that number 6 Pack you f*%#ing donkey”

someone pointed out he was a 90m player, and Pack was simply just screening

Marlon was faultless that night, he had Pogba (at the time a global star) in his pocket, dictated play and had a hand in both goals.

it’s crazy to look back at the starting 11, and how “basic” it was, but it worked. That was our season to be clever in January, just add a few sensible loans/perms and make the top 6, instead we started the decline.
Diony, Kent, Liam Walsh to a degree.

LJ suddenly assumed he was a managerial genius who could outwit everyone, and it all fell apart.

But 6 years on, still a fond and not too distant memory.

Having watched his FGR team about a dozen times, I was always hoping that Rob Edwards was going to be the man who succeeded Pearson.
I figured he’d probably do another year at FGR and then maybe we’d approach him in Summer 23, but Watford’s little scoundrels got him early!
Shame really, as he would have been my preferred candidate.

Naturally- there would’ve been uproar tho if we got “the cheap option from FGR, to replace the messiah Nige”

Nope. Didn’t ask. Asked any idea who it might be and was told too early to tell, so going by that those making these decisions are still nowhere close to appointing anyone.

    So it’s not OFF then?

Appreciated mate. I've never made any secrets about my health issues. I posted on the "I'm not very well thread and nowhere else to go" thread in August, and openly said how I have tried to kill myself on numerous occasions. At the time, it was two, it's now three. I'm naturally always very lonely, unhappy and feel useless. Don't get me wrong, I have a nice house, lots of pets, a growing business, but I'm always depressed and constantly wish I was dead. It's not a nice way to feel, but when you feel useless, and worthless, it eats at you, and sometimes you read stuff, and it may be banter, it may be forum comments, but it's hard not to take things personally, when that's the way your head works. I try to do all I can for others and be kind, but it's landed me in an all manner of problems in life. Anyway, thank you for your concerns, I know you meant well and it's fine. One day, I'm 100% sure, I'll take my own life, but it won't be today and given I've failed three times, you could say I am to suicide what Lansdown is to picking mangers! Absolutely useless at it!

This is really sad to read- my DM’s are always open, and please don’t ever let yourself get to that stage again.

I’d imagine Christine (Lampard) would know also. And probably Frank Snr

  6. Remove the name “Frank Lampard” and look at the CV (highlighting positives)

•Got a team to the Championship Play Off final

•Got a team under transfer embargo into the champions league

•Built a squad that won the champions league

    •Saved Everton from relegation

    •great worldwide commercial reach

    •adds value to the club

    •Respected former elite level player

•In a position where his next job will be one he simply has to succeed in

Not so bad now is it.

  7. All I will add, and this *IS NOT A ITK OR CLAIM* is that last Wednesday, at the game vs Ipswich, I was told by someone who has relatively good connections with some previous and current employees that Frank Lampard was the coming in.

for the record. I don’t believe it, but I’d personally be happy with FL vs others mooted.

  8. It feels like there’s actually more “acceptance” of FL this time around.

Also- John never dismisses the FL link, so add that to the mix.

(still can’t and don’t think it happens, despite him being my choice)

It wasn’t a “high majority” it was 56% when only just over 400 people voted - not being pedantic, but 56% is a majority, so i stand corrected on the "high" majority claim

Likewise the overwhelming vote to keep him recently was a very small sample size of our support. I never questioned this, I'm not anti NP, or Pro SL/JL, my point i, the decision is done, we can all speculate around if's, buts and maybes, its done, he's gone.

You have cherry picked some very odd signings, (There isnt a load to choose from, as per the remit he was given, my point being, his hit record potentially would be a challege for the board when asking for funds)  one was a free agent outside the transfer window (who did excellently then- and was then re signed, and subsequently bomed out, for context), another was sold on without making a loss & Bajic was a low wage, free transfer. You talk about spending money, 6 of the 7 you mention cost £500k in total & we got some of that back on Wilson.

I would argue Pearson’s signings (in the round, not picking on more questionable ones) in value for money terms pissed all over his two predecessors - no challenge here, agree, but that's not my point

After the Coventry game, Mark Robins described us as ‘the highest pressers in the division, bar none’.

Imagine how good at pressing we’ll be now we’ve got rid of Dr Evil not knowing how to keep our players in condition.

I, for one, welcome our new Sports Science/Physiotherapy overlord.. Jon Lansdown

but playing devils advocate, you can say that that game was the 1st game back, the subsequent 2 games, we lost, and probably didn't press as much... so maybe that's the issue

Its not our opinion we are defending. We are saying Nigel Pearson and Dave Rennie have had huge success with Leicester - they have more expertise than Jon Lansdown and Brian Tinnion. Thats not me or any of us, saying that us fans know more.

I think had there been more made (before NP was sacked) about the 9/10 days off over international breaks, and the subsequent form etc, people would be circulating that once again, its too cushty down at the HPC...

I found that comment from JL cheap, tbh. Maybe the majority did, why not sack him then? We then went on an exceptional run, made yet more progress on cutting costs and improving the squad by getting Bentley, Martin (He gave Martin an extra year remember), JD (basically) out the door. Semenyo sold for £10m.

I really don’t see how saying “yeah well 10 months ago it wasn’t great”, well….it’s no longer 10 months ago, is it? A very weak “told you so” type.
I think his point was, its not like he has, or even still was always 100% a fans favorite etc, and they did stick by him, admittedly, to do the dirty work (maybe that was the plan when he was hired, get him in, clear the decks whilst keeping us up, and then move him on)

Been said thousands of times, but you’ll never get every signing spot on. And all those you’ve listed are extremely, extremely cheap ones.

Mehmeti @ £1m arguably not.... but I don't disagree, my point is, some of the incomings he brought in (when he knew he had limited funds) probably didnt help the belief he could/would be trusted with the best egg

  13. Just watched - This will be an unpopular opinion on here, but I thought that was far better than I expected, and far better than summarised/viewed by others so to speak - in my opinion.

The fact's that will really p*ss people off are pretty clear tho-

    • Not even 12 months ago, a high majority of the fans wanted a change at the top, (heighted after WBA home), A high majority also credited an injury, and the subsequent HT formation change vs Swansea as the turning point (ahead of this, with the same squad, we seemed stuck on 3-5-2, before the switch to 4-3-3).

It's been well mooted that NP had to cut the costs, clear out the mess etc, yes of course his net spend is exceptional, but he also did invest and spend some cash- not all of these (nor should we assume they be) were great.

Klose, Mehmeti (jury still out), Simpson, Cornick (jury still out), Baker (writing was on the wall with his injury record), Kane Wilson, Stefan Bajic.

Outside of that is/was NP the "long term" man for us - we will never know, the good news is tho, history suggests, he leaves team in a good spot (eg Leicester and the PL win ;))

    Hard hat on, COYR

I think if Lampard is appointed it just reaffirms that the Lansdowns and the board are ******* morons. The only positive of Lampard is that it will get eyes on the club, .

As we’re actively trying to sell the club- this is where it potentially makes sense.

  15. The next job Frank Lampard takes is make or break for him.
You can discount the end of last season at Chelsea, and Everton are/were a mess so he probably comes through unscathed from that to a degree, but he can’t afford another job where he doesn’t do “something”.

I don’t see us as the place for him to build up his CV as a manager- it’s too risky.

    https://www.bristolcitysupporters.org/statement-nigel-pearson/

The Supporters Club & Trust don’t usually comment on managerial changes as we don’t have enough knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes and because it is a subject that usually divides opinion like no other. However, on this occasion the SC&T board, and it seems the vast majority of the fanbase, are agreed that sacking Nigel Pearson appears to be an incredibly harsh decision, whether or not it was based, as the club statement and quote from Jon Lansdown suggest, purely on football results.

Never before have we had a manager who has been so fundamentally instrumental in positively changing the mentality, the culture, and the togetherness of the whole football club across men’s and women’s football. And Nigel did this while operating under huge financial constraints. His intervention to ensure that the end-of-season awards dinner was inclusive of supporter-led awards was evidence of his unifying influence at our club. As was the cultural leadership Pearson embodied in relation to the recognition and respect for the women’s game.

So, the sacking of Nigel Pearson begs many questions for us.

What is the real reason? It is clearly not just about recent results. We’ve had worse runs. We have a huge number of injuries and are giving academy players debuts most weeks. Winning football matches in a very competitive Championship is difficult, even with a full squad.

Are we clearing the decks for new investors to come in? A wholesale clear out of a CEO and manager might suggest that.

Is Nigel Pearson too outspoken? He has been transparent about his feelings and just maybe this has finally broken an already strained relationship with the owners.

Questions like these arise when there is a lack of meaningful engagement and transparent communication from the custodians of our football club. There were times in the past when Steve Lansdown in particular would be visible, approachable, and responsive, whether that be behind the scenes, in media interviews, or even doing Q&As in the backrooms of pubs on away days. However, since the departure of Richard Gould, such communication has been sadly lacking.

We therefore again ask the club executives and owners for more transparency and improved supporter engagement going forwards, starting with greater clarity and context around the reason for Nigel Pearson’s sacking.

We thank Nigel, Jason Euell & Dave Rennie for their contribution to the Club, and wish Curtis Fleming, Ali Hines & Kalifa Cisse every success in this interim period.

    Excuse my ignorance.

Does this (or any) statement get a reply/response? If so- is this published?

Why is this statement released now, when there’s been a clear lack of comms from anyone in any power for the past 6-18 months?

Does the SLO @JerrySLO have any form of communication with you/the club- if so, has he not been in a position to feedback to his bosses the severe lack of confidence in the board from the fan base (surely a key part of his role to be the bridge between the customer and the staff)

There are always two agents (and possibly others) who are very often at Academy games, both former players, Coles is one, and the others name escapes me, a former defender who only played a handful of games, come on people…..

    Clayton Fortune….

by no means looking to stir the pot- but those 2 (Coles and Fortune) are present at most academy games, and both have a “unimpressed” relationship with their former colleague/manager.

I counter by saying there’s 3 sides to every story.
Their side, the other side, and the truth.

but none the less, it’s well known that SL doesn’t like being challenged.
