  1. Luton Town have a game scheduled for Deadline Day and so they are likely to make a decision on HC earlier. They host Cardiff City on Tuesday and so all eyes will be on whether Cornick is included in the squad amidst ongoing speculation.
  2. The Match of the Day highlights focused on our young guns. I know much has been said about our academy but when I gave it some thought, the contribution our academy is making and has made to Bristol City FC is quite remarkable. In the recent past players, such as Kelly, Bryan, Semenyo and Reid all who have moved on learnt their trade in our academy. Among our current squad, we have Conway, Bell, Scott, Pring and O’Leary if it weren’t for injury Benarous would surely be in this list too. There are other very promising players coming through including François, Kadji, Taylor-Clarke, Pearson and Thomas. I have to confess that I am not well read regarding our academy, I’m sure others who are can add to the list of names of past and present players that have benefited from it. Let’s look forward to us continuing to: - Identify and attract the best playing talent into our system from our local area. - Continue to optimise and develop our playing talent. The academy’s vision is to achieve sustainable, repeatable success at the highest level with a squad built on a core of home-grown talent. Congratulations to all concerned. Please keep up the good work everybody.

  6. Thank you Bristol City. I was fearing the kind of hat-trick that life sometimes throws at you today, having had two shitty events I really thought a third was going to unfold at AG this afternoon - how wrong was I. So a bit of an explanation; yesterday we looked at a stunning house (for the second time) which I was completely blown away by and was keen to buy, however, Mrs Bean isn’t on the same page = end of. The next shitty thing happened this morning, when I trucked up at Jersey airport supposedly en route to Venice for the week. At the BA check in desk I was told that I would not be able to enter Italy, as planned, due to the ‘ten year rule’ relating to passports, so I returned home. My passport expires on 17 September 2023 and was issued on 16 April 2013. The member of BA staff at check in told me that the issue date must have at least three months beyond the date I was returning to the UK. This seemingly is the ‘ten year rule.’ When I revisited the gov.uk travel advice it states this: If you are planning to travel to an EU country (except Ireland), or Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino or Vatican City, you must follow the Schengen area passport requirements. Your passport must be: - issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’) my date of issue is 16 April 2013 - valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date) my expiry date is 17 September 2023 The link above to the Schengen area passport requirements says this: If you are a non-EU national wishing to visit or travel within the EU, you will need a passport: - valid for at least 3 months after the date you intend to leave the EU country you are visiting - which was issued within the previous 10 years I still believe that my current passport is valid and falls within this criteria. Having made arrangements to take a week off work for this trip and my wife having taken a week off to care for our children you can imagine this has caused significant disruption and disappointment. So, I was really thinking bad things come in threes, City getting beaten will be the third. Totally delighted how wrong I was. Excellent performance, especially chuffed for Sam and Scotty and the entire team, who to a man, played very well. Hope the above bit about passports will be useful to others who are unaware of this little known bit of unknown ‘since we left the EU nonsense’. Who needs to move house or go to Venice when City turn in a performance like that! You Reds ?
  7. Programme: https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/keen-kane-in-the-robins-online-programme/ MA well played, although you need to stick to the exam question and avoid repetition ? thankfully you didn’t ventured into Scotland! Programme: https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/keen-kane-in-the-robins-online-programme/

  9. The fourth round of the FA Cup and we are up against WBA. The Baggies will be buoyed on by a bumper following of 3,414 supporters having sold all of their allocation. Their preview: https://www.wba.co.uk/news/match-preview-bristol-city-v-albion-0 NP pre-match: Sam Bell pre-match: Which five EFL teams have names which include North, South, East or West in their title? Answer at the end of this post. Their last visit to Ashton Gate, on Boxing Day, was our last defeat, we’ve managed four draws and two wins in all competitions since, as they recoded a 2-0 win with Matthew Phillips scoring in the 10th minute and then Brandon Thomas-Asante making sure of the points in the 75th minute, highlights: In the last round they scored in the 93rd minute against Chesterfield in a six goal thriller to set up a replay: A young mascot used the fourth round replay to pose a question of the owners (see photo.) On the pitch Corberan’s Baggies continue to march up the table, they were 23rd in the league when he took over. Off it, long-held concerns within the fanbase regarding Albion’s finances and ownership are ongoing, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lai_Guochuan In December they agreed a £20 million loan with US investment group MSD Holdings, https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64111067 They have reached ten FA Cup finals and won the Cup on five occasions. The first win came in 1888, the year the league was founded, followed by wins in 1892, 1931, 1954 and most recently in 1968, the club's last major trophy, here are the1968 Cup final highlights: The photo shows WBA players celebrating their FA Cup win in 1931. We last met them in the FA Cup seven years ago when they were in the Premier League, drawing 2-2 at their place (they equalised in the 95th minute) in a game which saw Max O’Leary make his senior debut, highlights: They won the replay 1-0: Last Friday they lost 2-1 at Turf Moor, having scored first. Our selection will be interesting, I’m guessing NP will stick with the same starting line up (minus those who’ve departed this week and Cam Pring who is suspended) as against Blackburn. If Kalas gets any pitch-time it will his first since the victory away over West Brom back in October having struggled with a groin issue. Will Nikita Haikin feature? They will be boosted by the availability of Brandon Thomas-Asante, who has now served his three-match suspension and will almost certainly come into the side in place of Daryl Dike, who continues to be managed by Corberan and the club's medical staff. Their expected line up: https://www.westbromnews.co.uk/2023/01/26/west-brom-predicted-xi-vs-bristol-city-thomas-asante-returns-rogic-and-livermore-to-start/ Chris Brunt, who had a brief spell with us, playing 12 league and two cup games, was appointed to the role of Loans Manager last year, where he is working alongside first-team, recruitment and academy staff to nurture young players during their spells away from The Hawthorns. Let’s hope the City website (see photo) is not proved to be right! The officials are referee Matthew Donohue. Who started his career as an official at the age of just 14, before he gained promotion to the EFL list of assistants in 2014. After successive promotions through the refereeing ranks, he was promoted to the National List of Referees prior to the 2018/19 season. Donohue refereed 39 matches during his first season on the EFL circuit and continued his impressive rise when he was appointed to the Select Group 2 list of officials in the summer of 2019. His first game in the EFL Championship was in August 2019, when he took charge of the Hull City’s 2-1 victory over Reading. Assistants Richard Wild and Nigel Lugg. 13. Well done all concerned. Reckon, all things considered, and once confirmed, this is a positive and solid outcome for all concerned. AS - gets a chance to step up a level, earn much more and continue to flourish. BCFC - get a decent wedge, some of which can strengthen the team overall some of which settles our FFP issues. Bournemouth - get a young forward who has the opportunity to make an impact in a struggling team. It’s rumoured to be £9 million plus unspecified add ins which surely will include a sell on clause. AS certainly has potential but for me blows hot and cold, if he can develop into a consistent player he will progress beyond AFC Bournemouth. Attention now turns to who we can bring in to strengthen the team overall, hoping for at least a couple of new faces. Interesting reflection on the changing nature of transfer fees, when looking back at the fees we received for example for Webster and Kelly especially as forwards generally attract a premium.
  14. But no deal is yet understood to be close for Semenyo, with a move to London-based Crystal Palace said to be his preferred option, should they match Cherries’ bid.
