    Defamation, slander, libel (etc..) are all civil matters except in a very few select circumstances (members of the higher echelons of the Royal Family, certain Crown Officers, blah, blah, blah......), so the Police would not be involved. I think we've been here a few (hundred) times......

    But... HG made an allegation of an assault and did this is a very public way so the Police (in the form of JulieH) had an obligation to investigate what could have been a criminal matter. Again, I think we've covered this more than a few times.

    Can we agree that HG is an irrelevance and stop mentioning him or this alleged incident?

    These is no such thing as 'division 5' it's a term they invented to try to disguise that they were NON-LEAGUE

    Don't forget; Rovers were bottom of the League in the 1938-39 season, but were re-elected. It does mean though that some gasheads would have regrettably (and I do mean that) died during WW2 knowing their team was the worst in the League.

    Sunday afternoon wasn't it? I was driving along the M32 going out of town and couldn't believe it.

    If memory serves the manager at the time was Don Megson and when he asked about whether any cups had been destroyed the fire service said not to worry as the fire hadn't reached the canteen.

    Later that season the trophy room was burgled and the entire contents were stolen. Police later apprehended two men who were in possession of 20 square yards of blue carpet.

    How far down the pyramid does that go do you think? Relegated this year, administration next triggering a points deduction that makes back-to-back relegations more likely and start 20-21 season as non-league either in their current guise or as a phoenix.

    Wouldn’t want Bristol Sport to go near them though.

    You have to make profits to pay Corporation Tax. You seldom do anything in business solely ‘for tax reasons’, If benefits through reduced taxation are your determining criterion then you’ve probably got it wrong........

    I was thinking about where our blue friend* may have got his extensive legal training and that course popped into my head. To be fair, I don’t even know if there is a BTEC Media Studies course!

    Libel is almost invariably concerned with the written word. Both libel and slander are civil matters unless they involve the Crown, some offices of state, and a few other weird and wonderful exceptions. This area is one of the most arcane and fascinating areas of UK law in my humble opinion and wouldn’t be covered in the BTEC media studies course.

    The collective desicion was taken to lock the thread to protect anyone that felt the need to comment further and not HG. 

    We have also been told the police will be in contact with both forums to make a statement on the matter. When that is I don’t know but I am sure PC Julie will be along here shortly to make a comment in an official capacity as your liaison officer. 

    As regards the alleged claim made by HG, I am sure the statement the police will make will indeed settle the matter once and for all. 

     

    I am sure your extensive legal training will mean you know the difference between an “alleged claim” and a “claim alleged”.
