As Mrs Pongo was watching Bake Off on TV I decided to have a look at the Rovers forum. I actually found someone who posted a sensible comment:

“Only QPR, Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol Rovers and Grimsby Town out of the 92 haven't built a new permanent stand or stadium in the last 30 years. Board after board after board have bullshitted the supporters with drawings, designs, campaigns, videos and appointing stadium advisors. How can 95% of the Football League something that is apparently not achievable for us?”

Come on, which of you have joined their forum and pretended to be Gashead?

And the stadiums of Sheff Weds, QPR and even Grimsby are far, far superior to theirs.

  2. Eastville was such a dump - but look at the size of it, the potential of the site they once had to build a decent stadium (plus additional facilities), in their traditional heartland, with excellent road and train links. Only a truly incompetent (or corrupt) management could have f-ed it all up quite so comprehensively.

  3. Now that Reading have been docked another 3 points, am I reading the table right - without the point deductions to Wigan and Reading, ie., based purely on footballing merit - Rovers should be in 20th place, just scraping above the relegation zone not even because of goal difference but just because Carlisle have played one more and lost 3?

I thought they were going to walk the league this season?!

  4. My attempt at a best XI, plus 9 substitutes, 4-4-2 formation, with Alan Dicks as manager:

    GK: M Gibson

    RB: L Carey

    CB: B Wedlock

    CB: S Taylor

    LB: B Drysdale

    RM: S Murray

    CM: G Gow

    CM: T Doherty

    LM: B Tinnion

    CF: J Atyeo

    CF: A Cole

    Subs:  A Basso, N Hunter, D Barnard, J Dziekanowski, J Jordan, G Sweeney, C Whitehead, B Taylor, T Abraham

  5. We had so many good left backs back then, but only one left sided midfielder - think it was no coincidence that the left backs flourished when we had Tinnion on the pitch.

The overlaps between whichever left back we had and Tinnion were a joy to watch. (And then the switch over to the right wing where Scott Murray would cut in and score). Ah - nostalgia!

Absolutely need to be careful with his recovery from this one.  No point in rushing him back while we have other options.  Let him recover properly and just hope that the double injury doesn't take anything away from what looks/looked to be a promising career.

Absolutely - I can remember Christian Ribeiro....
