You’re both right of course I suppose I just thought that the mounting evidence would prove to much but I clearly not! They seem to be a classic case of cognitive dissonance (which I had to google because I never quite trust my grasp on it as a concept): To deal with the apparent dissonance (where a cult leaders claims had been disproven), cult members denied or rationalized away the evidence and then desperately sought new followers to support the face-saving reinterpretation of the situation Obviously the research is on cults & quotes from an article on political dissonance but it seems very fitting! Especially if you see the way they’re now sharing their petition, trying to get MPs involved, etc it all seems to fit. My sympathy is definitely tempered that’s for sure, there’s definitely those out there who haven’t been like that but from what I’ve seen on social media (and again I don’t go out to find out what Derby fans think so I doubt I’m representative) it’s very few, I think I can only think of the one that I’ve interacted with who’s been introspective about the whole thing Edit: I don’t know why the text is so massive but I’m a technophobe and apparently can’t change it!

I can understand being desperate and going to anyone you can for help anywhere, but if a Labour MP were to actually advocate for companies/'the rich' (because whislt it may not technically be MM's liability its his mess and he could surely trump up the bill if he is indeed worth ~500m) not having to pay taxes then at that point whats the point in the party? I know Labour has changed/is changing a lot in recent(ish - ok 20 odd!) years but that still goes against everything the party stands for. Even at the hight of New Labour and convergence with Thatcherism/lite Mandelson still had his - we don't care if people get filthy stinking rich, just as long as they pay their taxes. Theres little an MP/The Govt can really do anyway since yes its got nothing to do with either an individual opposition MP or the government. I agree on the blame shifting too, obviosuly there's the 'efl on strings' comments but I agree with some others they can ultimately be taken as banter and they don't make the potential sinking of Derby in any way palatable but I do think it's rich complaining about fair treatment when they in essence didn't treat much of the rest (or at least those who adhered to the rules) of the league with fairness. I also cannot comprehend the lack of blame aimed at Morris, I know when this was unravelling a few months ago they did start to place the blame at his door, slowly began to lift some of the wool from their eyes, but it seems now none of them really mention him? I don't go out of my way to interact with Derby fans or find what theyre thinking and I'm only friends with a few so perhaps I'm simply missing it but theres anger at the efl, and the admins (though even that seems to be dying down now?) but none/hardly any for Morris. I can't understand why they're not furious with him. It's like the admins have managed to put up such a sustained propaganda campaign they believe it? Or simply want to believe it perhaps since I refuse to believe that many people are that easily distracted/swayed from something. Then again, 'accountability' wouldn't be a word I would associate with any of the last few years of this country so I shouldn't be surprised.

I realistically am far too busy to go anyway but the price put me off too, my man utd season ticket holding family told me that for ST holders they don’t pay more than the pro-rata price for any other domestic game for cup games, or at least not early round ones anyway. If that was the case maybe I’d be going but alas it looks like it’s going to be pretty empty

my best friends mum was a nurse, had time off to have her kids, now they’re grown up you need a degree to be a nurse, as she had too much time off she no longer counts as qualified and she can’t afford to spend 3 years at university training to become one, it’s so gutting for her she loved that job and she was a great nurse but it’s just not feasible. I’m sure there’s plenty more like her too.

I used to have this issue taking the bus & train, I used to say at 15/16 what ID am I going to have? I don’t have a driving license obviously, no ones going to let a teenager run around with their passport + loads don’t have one anyway. I’d imagine if they have an u-19 ticket it should be easier but otherwise I guess they’ll have to take peoples word for it? Definitely could be some fun conversations (although if the application of the scanners is anything to go by perhaps not..)

obviously each country’s system is different but my medication that I’ll be on for life costs me the prescription fee here, in the USA it costs my friends $300ish per prescription and they have medical insurance, I’m not sure I could ever back that, worth noting the USA also spends about double per capita on health care than us, France, Netherlands etc (all who have different systems). We don’t have to be the highest payers in the world if we can provide quality of life, work life balance etc that you get when you have more doctors & nurses, of course it’s very difficult to train as either of those especially a doctor so it’s much easier said than done, but making it harder for people to come over and be a nurse (it doesn’t really apply to doctors the visa rules makes that easier) probably isn’t going to help, mind you I’m aware that’s flying a bit close to the line on politics which I don’t really want to spend my evening whinging about so I’ll shut up now!

different ‘market’ I guess, podcasts you can put on Spotify and play in the car or whatnot a vlog you can’t, I can’t get on with podcasts I can’t just sit and listen to something and in the car I’d rather just play music (I like having my own personal concert in there) but I know lots of people who love them and have several that they listen to religiously so I suppose it’s just what people like make and consume

I met Marinovic at a Phoenix game I went to, decent fun but easily the worst standard of football I’ve seen in a long time (I’m sure that’ll be challenged when I make it to my non-league local in a few weeks mind). Think I was feeling gobby and young at the time (also jet lagged if that’s an excuse) and asked him some questions about LJ, Bristol etc that he basically didn’t answer, the kiwis around I recall found the whole thing quite bemusing. It also was my first experience of VAR. None of his goal kicks made it into the stands but that was helped my the whole ‘playing in a cricket ground’ thing

FFP for us, and also Rugby is cheaper (salary cap) + there are very rarely transfer fees in rugby, players move when out of contract, the only exception I can think of (bearing in mind I don’t really ‘do’ rugby’ so there may be others) is George Ford moving early with a (relatively) small amount of compensation paid

Public transport especially our trains are truly a shambles, only in NZ was it worse where you basically have to fly anywhere to get anywhere on time if you’re not driving (or even if you are driving tbh). Countries across Europe certainly differ in quality, functionality and price but I most recently went from Berlin to Wrocław for ~€30, the train from Copenhagen to Malmö iirc was about 70-80dkk I remember thinking ‘oh a touch pricey’ before I remembered the exchange rate, it’s about £8, and also Rotterdam to Groningen (other side of the country) is showing as €27.40 right now on the NS app, not forgetting the fact that you can use the chipkaart on buses trams and trains which is SO convenient I was almost tempted to live there just for that (not really of course but the novelty of being able to get public transport easily was huge). Conversely I actually can’t get the train to Sheffield United because someone thought having it at 12:30 on a Sunday would be a good idea and of course with Sunday service, nothing would get me there on time. Solution? Drive I suppose, it would also be cheaper than the ~£100 the tickets appeared to be when I briefly checked. At least Manchester has some good trams though. Edit: I’m obviously not saying that NZ is the only country that’s worse simply of all the places I’ve tried to use public transport consistently & not just as a tourist getting airport buses/taxis

Definitely was quiet but not really surprising all things considered, for me it felt like brum was noticeably more toxic, possibly partly because more of the players came over after brum so there was a target? whereas even those who did come over today weren’t particularly close/didn’t really stay long bar COD for all that he divides (or doesnt…) opinion

Perhaps I can give my perspective as one of ‘the gays’ then, it’s obviously largely down to individuals of course but everyone would know it would be a taking point, and whilst you would be aware that people would react negatively (I would say even in this day and age but homophobic hate crime and instances of ‘gay bashing’ for example are on the rise) you would also know just how much the representation matters to young gay people not just in football but in sport and sometimes just in life to see a successful openly gay person being openly gay in an environment where it’s very difficult to be so - that also for everyone asking why it matters is why it matters. If you don’t care, great, but to any potentially closeted kids it potentially means the world, it potentially means they’ll stay in football because they realise actually it can be for people like them. That’s why it matters and that’s why it’s a talking point. Yes one day you’d hope for it to be a non-event as for example it generally is in women’s sport (but then a whole load of other stereotypes apply there to explain why that’s the case beyond of course the difference in media coverage) but that is sadly a long way off.

There’s a huge amount of soft power in owning a football club, it’s a huge legitimiser as well. The same applies to for example hosting formula 1 races.
