I’ve often thought this. I suppose it’s different in the world of contracts which are then paid up but in any other industry you would walk away with a pay out which I suppose in a way they do.  Would or rather could be a very interesting case to follow if it went to court.  I think the same about young drivers being charged a higher premium for car insurance. Any other walk of life that’s discrimination based on a characteristic and would not been allowed.

Yes, I thought this after I'd posted - they get there contracts paid up so arguably don't have any loss of earnings to claim...unless you wanted to argue that you'd done such a good job, they would have extended your contract!

There is a lot to like about the Lansdowns on paper, but their biggest flaw is that they run the club like a total echo chamber.

The “board of directors” (if we even have one other than the Lansdown family!) is a hand-picked bunch of yes-people who have made it to their respective positions due to being willing to play along with the Merry Lansdown Tune.

There is nobody who in anything resembling a position of seniority who is willing to call “The Family” out when they are wrong, or challenge the status quo.

If you look at our past ownership structures we have had Directors / Investors (Keith Dawe, Scott Davidson, John Laycock, Ernie Arathoon, even Colin Sexstone) who had been successful in their own industries in their own rights, and would put the success of the club before self-interest and create a healthy level of challenge at board level.

What we have now is an echo chamber, where what Steve or Jon say goes, regardless of how ridiculous it is.

It’s an unhealthy environment, one that has run its course, and which needs to change to allow us to jump off the slow, boring treadmill we currently find ourselves on.

    Bingo. Superbly put.

Gould was excellent I thought, seemed to be a good buffer as well between NP and the board.

    Gould as CEO

NP and his team football wise

Yep a good foundation on which to build but with them ideally.

This is one of the most annoying things, we almost had it, and not even that long ago! That set up should have been the foundation to push on. When Gould left for the ECB (not a problem with that, he loves his cricket, not sure anyone with that level of interest in a sport would turn down the ECB), we even appointed an equally experienced CEO in his place in Phil Alexander! And it then went tits up. Alexanders leaving was always a bit weird, can only surmise Lansdown started meddling where he shouldn't and Alexander, understandably, didn't like it?

Anyway, we are where we are but you get the feeling something has got to give.

I still think a manager could perform in spite of what’s above him…and actually influence those above to change / educate them.  But appreciate it might need an ally or at least someone with an open mind in there too.

I think you're right, if the person was talented enough and willing enough to 'play the game'. I do think, no matter how good you are, there will always be a ceiling with the current structure (which I find increasingly bizarre) and incumbents (less said the better) though. I just can't see their willingness to be influenced bending too much!

The value of the work Richard Gould did is becoming increasingly evident day by day! Dam his love of cricket!

    So Nige, Flaming. Juall gone.

    Pat Mountain still GK coach?

    Ali Hines still u21 coach?

    Kaliffa Cisse coaching?

Pretty sure I bought a firework called a Flaming Juall from that place down by the M32 last weekend.

  5. I don't agree with the sacking of Nige, quite frankly its embarrassing but dealing with the situation we're in, looking at who is out there, I'd go Eustace.

    • Played good football with Kidderminster, had some success and reached the playoffs (albeit much lower division)
    • Has experience at international level with Ireland. For some reason I like managers that get themselves out there and do this
    • Did well with Birmingham. Widely touted to finish bottom, he got them performing really well. All whilst dealing with off pitch nonsense which shows he can shut out the noise, focus on the football, connect with the players and get results. He might need that experience here if there is fallout from the sacking....

    Very convenient, isn’t it?

Looks like Arsenal are also going to use it to make a problem go away & I’d be gobsmacked if Newcastle don’t take advantage here at some point.

Modern football, eh? What a disgusting place it is sometimes.

I think for 'modern football', we now have to read 'business' if you get my meaning. These are very much business transactions, purely financial, nothing about the football for the UK clubs. There are rules and regulations that have to be met and this is a way of meeting them. Morally, a complete and utter shambles ?

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed since he's moved back to France he's had a couple of under 21 international games.

He's in theory playing at a higher level all be it in a very polarised league of haves and have nots.

I think he will get an offer in the French top tier, and we just want to make sure a sell on clause is backed into his contract.  Whatever fee we get will be nominal.

I don't think there will be any sell on clauses as his contract with us is ending so we aren't selling him and therefore can't put any clauses in the sale to ensure his new club give us a percentage of any future sale. If you get me.

One of his first touches or possibly first touch wasn’t great and the commentator actually picked up on it and said I know he’s just come on but must do better.

Not enough to start next match I don’t think unless the manager likes rotation but I’d imagine it’s a must win game now

I heard a Ghanian football reporter on 5Live on the way home yesterday. He was saying the Ghanian fans we're getting a bit hacked off that the coach liked to change the team every game so....you never know!

I'm sure i saw something unless i dreamt it?!

There was a bit of a wishy washy report kicking around that he was included in a 50 odd man longlist that Southgate was going to whittle down to 26. No real danger of him being included I don't think.
