  1. Bristol City/Somerset v Sheff Utd/Yorkshire, that. With an emphatic win for us (after they made all the "early running")
  2. .... goading and belittling us. Yes, same in this family. A beloved aunt, no longer with us, but she did like to decry the club in Bristol that had actually reached the top level, and contested an FA Cup final, made it to League Cup semi finals. All this whilst not having set foot in Eastville (never mind Trumpton) since about 1959. Also, used to work with a bloke at Aztec West that "used to go" down Eastville but long since stopped, but he didn't let this get in the way of him spouting off about us. And the bloke next door to him cleaning his car in the rain, I seem to remember. And I am now remembering a quite recent work encounter with what might be termed a "millennial" Fewer young chap, in which we struck up a conversation whilst waiting for an electrician to turn up, and on learning he was from Fishponds or some such, I enquired as to his allegiance, to which he answered "Rovers." I probed further, confident in my years of experience, my sharp wit and the current status imbalance and 18 years and all that, looking for some "sport" while we waited, only for him to reveal "I, er, don't actually go." Oh, right. Where's that leccy to? I pondered, and that was that. This city is a funny old place. If Big Nige manages to work the longed-for but unlikely miracle here, then a lot of people that are Rovers but don't watch Rovers are going to be upset, but not so upset that they aren't in the clamour for tickets to see Liverpool, Man Utd and all their other "Premiership teams" at AG.
  3. Four corners flags, though, the full set, and two goals as I recall?
  4. The Blue Few in the Second Division / tier of English football: The 1950s - nine seasons (highest finish: 6th) The 1970s - seven seasons (highest finish: 15th) The 1990s - three seasons (highest finish: 13th) Conclusion : increasingly challenging, for them. How long will they manage if/when they climb so high again? In the 50s, perhaps money and wages wasn't as vital as it is nowadays. The Championship now - they'd do well to match Rotherham. They'll need eleven/a team of Tillsons just to do a bit better than Wycombe.
  5. Radio Loca reporterl: "Joey, are you up for the fight?" Joey: "*****, @#$&***, @#*******, @#$%&******, €£****" Radio Local reporter: "My nose!"
  6. We needed a "breath of fresh air," remember, and a freshing up after 4 years - that was the considered opinion of the owner. As well as the baying crowd. And LJ, too, perhaps, needed a refresh, and a reboot. To "go again." We were 12th, going down the table, and backwards, playing tedious low-shoot/chance football, and playing blokes like Afobe wide left. We were well on the way towards the shite we've seen this season when Lee was fired, with quite a few fewer injuries. We needed a break from him, and he needed a break from us/here. SL got that bit right! Now he has a second go at getting LJ's replacement and the fabled "breath of fresh air" right. This season has made it too easy to forget how poor we were under Lee by the end, and the direction of travel of this club under the Ashton/Johnson partnership.
  7. Not quite. Not in rugby, old boy. This is a 4 point win. Whereas v Bath it was a 5 point win. So, a win is either a win, or a bonus point win. This, tough game, was merely a "win."
  8. Yes, potentially he was. Same as Lee was 12 months on in Jan 2017. Yes, and it was the same the following season, 2016/17, when we set a club record for consecutive league defeats (during which, Steve extended Lee's contract). Only we got to see how things go in 2016/17 when an owner stands shoulder to shoulder with his man and we didn't the season before (not that I am saying Cotts didn't deserve the sack for things we are not privy to. But I think he'd have kept us up with Lee Tomlin and the much improved squad in the second half of that season).
  9. It was one of us, surely? On a wind up. It was like a parody of a deluded sag, from one of us on here. A tick-box of every delusion. "We just needed some of us in there tonight to ... help get that goal." Yes, course you did; just like you did v Mansfield in 2014, and with every relegation.
  10. Blimey. So Wigan were going to the football "food bank" for handouts in 1992; by 2005, they were helping themselves to the Premier League handouts.
  11. It’s pitiful, isn't it? But for the time being, it's all we've got!
  12. That's football in Bristol, in three lines there. Someone once summised Bristol football thus: they have Windass who stopped us reaching the PL; we have Colin Daniel, who plonked them into the non-leagues. There's the difference.
  13. Sags totally losing the plot now - they think Tisdale's lost the dressing room....
  14. That 0:9 at White Hart Lane wasn't so bad really, compared to this. Commendable, even
  15. Thanks, but this thread isn't about you. Being self-absorbed by yourself and your own bitterness and resentment and your life of disappointment is a miserable place to be but you can get help. Seriously. Your GP is a good place to start (when you can get to see one. It might not be a white, anglo-saxon one, but if you can get over that, then there is hope). Take care.
  16. Rovers' crowds are shit in part because "their" ground is shit. But "their" ground is shit, because their crowd is shit. And so it has ever been thus, and goes on. Meanwhile, City’s crowd is bigger because our ground is better. And - you guessed it - our ground is better, because our crowd is bigger. This is complex, and a bit difficult for yer common-garden Gas munter to grasp.
  17. Preternaturally Enormous Travelling Army. (Lock up yer car parks)
  18. I should think mini buses, horses, boobs and so on, are very thankful and not a little relieved to be under lockdown this evening, and not out and about, going about their normal everyday business, where they might be butted, assailed, fondled (and tampered with), by irate pirates, Wael's Prowed Boys.
