Great year in the conference, good away days at real football clubs not plastic franchise setups like Bristol Sport. Great day out winning at Wembley. Followed by promotion to L1 so really not upset by that at all. Possibly best thing that could have happened in long run. The gap is one good season for us or one poor season for them, both of which could easily happen ......

My brother in law got all shirty on Facebook after that match, his status about how unlucky the Gas were ended with the line “see you next season SHITHEADS”.

Funnily enough, despite living nearby, didn’t see him at all for about 5 months after 3/5/2014.

ive got a brother in law I haven't seen for nearly 20 years .

After the Sheffield Utd defeat, when we were apparently doomed to relegation according to the Sags, we won 26 more points that season. Rovers only managed 12 points in the same time period.

I think they ended up getting relegated, but I’m not sure?

Edit: just looked it up, it wasn’t Southend they played, it was Burton who they beat at home.

think they also thought they were coming for us early in the season when we beat them 2 1 at Ashton gate ,vaguely remember someone phoning in on radio Bristol saying that they should of won and they were loads better than us blah blah blah were coming for you tick tock and all that sh7t .

when you can see a relegation happening it is very painful but then you accept it ,rovers never saw it coming so the shock is massive ,that was one of the most hilarious days of my football life

and just a few weeks earlier they were talking about getting in the play offs.

The gate was only about 14,000 and all ticket wasn't it? Eastville was pretty much falling down by then, the South Stand was gone I think.

vaguely remember a small bit of terracing left where the south stand was .99% sure it was all ticket still got mine somewhere .

They've never submitted a planning application to BCC for a new stadium. They did submit for a "redevelopment" at the rugby ground. Surprisingly, a lot of the councillors on the planning committee were replaced at the eleventh hour, by councillors supportive of the plans. The EP was actively supporting the plans and, had a Rovers supporter as the main reporter of those developments. She was later employed by Rovers as their press officer, I believe working closely with Dennis Payter (another Rovers supporter) who worked for the EP. The plan was passed, yet was expected to be refused, I wonder why? They never submitted plans for Severnside, they never submitted plans for Hengrove (stupid), the plans they did put together for Carson's Green (South Glos), were laughed at as it was on Greenbelt with no infrastructure improvements included and, the UWE (South Glos) got permission yet has never got off the ground, yet they constantly blame Bristol City Council, for not getting them a ground.

hengrove and carsons green ? cant remember either.

How the hell do they think they managed to take 44k to Wembley when the middle tier wasn’t open? I’ve only ever seen one ‘official’ figure for the number of Gasheads at the Shrewsbury Play Off Final, it was for ‘number of tickets sold’ and if iirc it was on the Rovers Official Website and was around 38,000.

Millenium Stadium’s capacity is 73,000 and there’s no way they had 40k there for that.

Everyone knows their ticket sales stalled around the 26/27k mark for what was effectively the most important game in their history against Grimsby.

Of course, us, Swindon and the Gas went to Wembley in 2015 and that gives me a good excuse to post this picture again.

I must admit ever since 82 I have been hoping they would fold and disappear, petty, small minded, maybe I don’t care.  My one hope was that it would be their incompetence and shitness that led to their demise, but if it happens to be a virus, then I’ll grudgingly accept that.

what would ashton Gate look like now if they had stolen our ground back in 82 ?
