  1. Reading about their owner he has been in charge since 2015 so would be interested to find out if he has always been a terrible owner or if it has only turned out that way recently. Looks like he has got through a fair few managers over the years but that's not too unusual, reports say they have a chance of going bankrupt but not sure how accurate that is likewise the talks of a takeover.

If the manager, assistant and CEO are all out the door then I guess it's a mess that won't be sorted soon and another season of struggle is likely. With all of the ex football league clubs in the conference it is looking quite a stacked division (the top half at least) and who knows how close they will be to relegation by the end of the season. I know it won't be a completely popular opinion to have but I hope they get themselves out of the mess they're in.

    Some of the highlights...

Barrow away in August - bank holiday weekend by the sea, not sure if it has much of a beach though ?

Harrogate away 30th October - trick or treat? lets hope there's no horror show ?

Salford in November - probably flying high by this point but can they do it on a Tuesday night in Salford?

FGR away - big day out if away fans are allowed by then they will be taking it over, bring back happy memories of conference play offs ?

Boxing day - welcoming Sutton United to the Mem, a club who are famous mainly for 1 giant killing, maybe it will be 2 after this game? ?

  3. It all came together for Sale after the yellow card, with the fans behind them and a good atmosphere it was their night. Tough opponents no doubt but they may not have so much momentum in the play offs and have a good chance of losing their winning streak with their games coming up. Thought Bristol could live to regret not scoring in the first half after so much territory and it played out very differently in the 2nd. Lost their way a bit for a short spell and were made to pay. Very entertaining game can only imagine how tense a play off game between the 2 sides would be.

  4. Don't understand rugby overly well but bought bt sport for a month earlier today which will take it until the final, so being a casual Bristol fan until the end of the season at least. Have also enjoyed the first half despite the score, wouldn't like to guess who will go on to win this.

  5. Just watched the highlights, nice to see at least one BCFC get a win at Ashton Gate. ? Great finish for the winning goal and after just making debut for England things are looking up for her. Quite a few teams dragged into the relegation battle now.

As for smaller goals if you look at the WSL the teams in the bottom half average less than one goal a game so I don't think it would make it a better spectacle unless other changes were also made. Its ok for the Chelsea manager (who average 3 goals a game) to say that but for teams like BCFC I am not sure it would make things better.

  6. Not related to the Championship but I think this is quite interesting...

Ligue 1 clubs stare into financial abyss after huge TV deal collapses

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/dec/15/ligue-1-clubs-stare-financial-abyss-tv-deal-collapses-mediapro

TV deal collapses in France. Sounds like Mediapro made a reckless gamble by offering France the second highest TV deal in Europe? The deal that collapsed was worth around 814m euros per season and the new deal will be worth around 700m per season so the article is perhaps a little over the top. Apparently the promoted clubs Lorient and Lens had net spends that were around 20m euros on the back of the original deal. Also Nimes (who bought Eliasson, lets hope they still pay ?) had a net spend above 10m euros and they survive on gates of around 12-14,000. Those clubs look like the worst exposed to me and Nimes and Lorient are both in a relegation battle. Reminds me of the ITV digital saga although with this the clubs have to battle this at the same time as losing gate receipts.

  7. I'm looking to see how long it takes to get a home win because the one time I went to watch them play was the last time they won at home in the wsl, sad to say it was about 11-12 months before lockdown begun so they were struggling massively even before fans left.

One stat I look at which I think is more important in women's football is goals scored, villa had scored 3 before tonight in 6 or so games so to get 4 in 90 minutes isn't good for City. Odds on to go down now but they need to move on quickly to another big game.

  8. Nice counter attack goal, seemed like Reading had the rest of the opportunities though. When you're down the bottom that's a very good point. Against Spurs in the game before they scored twice and had some other chances too so I think that was the best performance so far from what I have seen. They haven't won a home league game for 2 seasons but if they beat Villa then they will start looking capable of staying up.

  9. I didn't particularly enjoy the big meeting scene in Spectre, in contrast there is a part in QoS where the criminals have a meeting in the opera which I thought was far better.

Also didn't find the ending when Bond gets drilled in the head that good at the end of Spectre.

I can't defend the song or the badly edited action scenes in QoS which are off putting but other than that I don't mind it, even the ending which apparently because of a writers strike was written in part by Craig himself wasn't that bad (if a little boring), I liked it when he got back the agent who made Vesper corrupt but I understand lots of people hate the movie because they see the movie as a poor sequel to Casino Royale. Don't think Dominic Greene was as bad as people make out either.

Would be funny to hear the reasons why people hate this movie though!

  10. I actually think its pretty good, but she is also one of my favourite all time bond girls so maybe I am biased because of that.

From what I remember its quite formulaic so it reminds me more of Brosnan than Craig's other movies, personally I think QoS is better than Spectre.

  11. Had no idea that Garner was sacked and Tisdale had taken over ? I listened to their game against Fleetwood on the radio which was Garner's final game in charge and the fans weren't happy on full time but I didn't seriously consider him to get the sack just yet. To be honest I thought the Gas were going to be a mid table/bottom half team under Garner as that new striker they have bought seems to be doing ok. Fleetwood stuck 5 past Plymouth last weekend too so they are on good form too. Lets see if Paul Tisdale can't be the next Dave Penney for them.

This is true, but ultimately it is his decision on what investment there is in the side

Can't pretend I know the investment numbers but I would be surprised if Birmingham were outspending us by much. Birmingham only scored 5 goals in 13 games when the season was stopped last year but managed to score 4 yesterday. Maybe its a mix of lack of investment and low confidence but I think its a bit too easy to blame it on the investment side.

  13. Third goal, was it a cross or a shot? ?

But a few years ago the woman's team managed to win (lots of 1-0's from memory) games like this, after losing 3-1 against Arsenal I would have hoped for a closer scoreline there. Wonder if Arsenal played a weakened team at all for that game, think they played Man City a few days before or something like that.

And if to rub in the impression that Bristol Sport is missing a trick...

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2020/oct/19/womens-football-is-growing-but-can-the-fa-keep-pace-with-demand

It does seem bizarre that SL is not investing even a small amount more in this as it provides a way of getting Bristol Sport more widely known. Plus it does look somewhat sexist if the men’s clubs are being well resourced compared to the competition at their level, yet the women’s team seems to be getting way many in their league, with results in line with that.

To be fair to Bristol Sport they have had a PL team for many years (before a lot of other teams jumped on the bandwagon) and except for Reading and Birmingham I would expect all the other teams to invest more if we are being equal. And it's not Steve Lansdown's fault that they keep giving poor goals away.
