One failure to win and we’re back to Tanner being the fall guy.
But happy to explain.
We have four fit senior defenders. Tanner was signed as back-up to Simpson, who he outlasted. Last season he was intended to be back up to Wilson, who didn’t work out as a signing. This season he was intended to be back up to McCrorie who hasn’t been fit. Our other right back options are Sykes, TGH and Vyner, who are all needed elsewhere on the pitch. And none of whom look *that* comfortable at right back.
Tanner is a solidly consistent squad player who has perhaps been fortunate to play more games than he may have done if our other senior right back options had been fit and in-form but who - whilst unspectacular - seldom lets us down.
Realistically I think he is as good a back up right back as we are likely to afford and, even if we had the resources, I’d argue more options in attacking midfield, the centre of attack and in goal was the greater priority.
It is a shame Kane Wilson did not have the impact we hoped and that Ross McCrorie has been injured but I don’t understand the scapegoating of a solidly dependable back up player, especially at a point when he is one of only four fit defenders at the club.
I’m not making tanner the fall guy so please don’t insinuate that.
In my opinion he is the most negative player in the team,Sykes, vyner and dickie all make either forward penetrating passing or will try and run the ball out.Not constantly slow the play down and pass 90% of passes backwards like tanner.Im not saying he is shite,I’m saying for me he doesn’t fit with how we are looking on playing as a team, you have your opinion and I have mine.

I’m sorry but can anyone explain what exactly tanner brings to this team?

Ridiculous how quickly some are writing him off. It’s not his fault that Pearson was sacked. It’s a solid start for him now. Give the guy a fair chance.
Spot on
i will always back a city manager as much as possible,I’m a Pearson fan and his sacking stunk of s**t,but, like you say it’s not manning’s.He is getting them playing and that’s all that counts,Pearson is gone now,I’ll cherish the time he was here but now it’s manning’s turn to run this team, hopefully to a great success

If anyone has 2 tickets for West Ham seated together (adult and u18) I’m happy to pay double face value,I’m only a member but have been to 3 away games this season and was hoping to get the tickets myself, obviously sold out to ST holders,

You have to blame Manning for his team selection and tactics tonight we know Joe Williams hasnt got the legs to play two games in a week so to drop the player of the month TGH is crazy . Bell has been poor for months and doesnt deserve a start on current form and Conway cannot play up top on his own.. Its time for Cornick to start at least he wins the ball in the air and can hold the ball up
cracking post

Indeed. Even if we went down they’d probably stick with him. They are damned by their decision making just as much as if they are lauded if it ends up working out.
they need to leave,simple

Yeah, only to fun/pub league stuff.
On Saturday mornings as a kid & then only ever wanted to play on Sundays from my mid teens onwards, because Saturdays were all about watching City.
Since I've had my son & he's been of playing age, we have lived in North Somerset & it seems to be Saturday = football, Sunday = Rugby for his age groups around here.
0930 or 1030 kick off times mean we can always make City home games but no chance of away games - so this one being on a Sunday is good for me & anyone else with that schedule - was my point.
I'm not questioning if there is kids Sunday football - there just doesn't seem to be around my way.
Avon youth league on a Sunday is the biggest league system for youth football in the Bristol area,Saturday football doesn’t come close

Remember Tanner had been bought by Nige for the future. He is playing because our lack of depth forces two managers to play him
I get that, but he’s just not good enough

And this is what to expect under Liam manning,2nd half stats alone are shocking, and don’t get me started on tanner he’s so negative

Not at all, there was no press, Knight was playing deep and didn’t suit him, the movement was statuesque. We couldn’t string a pass together!
