I read a great book about scouts a while back , they are not treated or paid well at all.  Some teams rely on love for the Club or the game and barely pay expenses and as you say the hours are terrible . Some got extra if someone they scouted made it big , but for the most part it was a pittance .
A friend of my inlaws was a part time Scout, scouted us a few times, worked for Chelsea and other London Clubs , there were times I'm pretty sure he didn't even get expenses and ended up packing it in.

You have to really love the game and the work , because no one does it for the glamour or pay that's for sure.

Yep and the paper work involved now is mind boggling.

    Decent listen.

One of which I wasn't aware was that Welsh side Total Net Solutions had to change its name, because it could no longer be named after a company, and picked The New Saints.

They won the Welsh Premier league by an enormous margin this year, I wonder why they don't apply for the English league.

Edit: I wasn't aware quite how many many names have an unclear origin, such as why Plymouth picked Argyle, this was a new team set up by two Cornish men as a rival to the existing Plymouth City (I think that's what they said) and various names were considered before selecting Argyle.

There’s a bit of audio from a English reporter , when tns won the league he said there be dancing in the streets of tns tonight.

Yep, I’m pretty sure I know who you’re on about.

Yeah you would’ he was at wolves for a while’ used to play for Taunton’ Bridgwater’ pretty sure he was at minehead when they were chucking money around years ago .

Think you hit the nail on the head there. A little like scouting, you'd imagine every man and his dog fancies themselves as a scout but can they really do it at a professional club when stuff gets real?

Asking for too much on your CV will put a lot of people off.

I known Man Utd’s head scout for the south west and south wales ‘ he’s on minimum wage plus expenses’ sounds glamorous but the hrs are shit and most of the lads he’s recommended utd haven’t even bothered to have a look at .

I went to both semi finals and the difference in behaviours was apparent. You can see why some Europeans hate the English drinking culture. Italy v Spain was very good natured, fans mixing, having a good time - a genuine party. The England v Denmark game was on another level inside and outside of the stadium and just had that edge to it that you can feel at a derby game or when you're playing Millwall or Cardiff. Like it would only take a spark and the whole place would go up. I know numbers wise there were FAR more England fans in attendance than any of the other teams with it being a home tournament at that point but it was madness. I hate this beer throwing thing that seems to be part of it now and I reckon I probably showered in £300 worth of Carlsberg that day (Wembley prices). Being at the game itself was incredible but there was a real sense of people blowing off steam post covid.

The Italians are no saints’ how many English club fans have been stabbed watching their team at a Italian away game in Europe

And over-complicated with Bristol Sport umbrella. Pretty sure that has narrowed the market as most would focus on football.

He is lauded for debt write offs season after season but I think they are just 'I owe you's' & all the while, if he wont speculate, the 'I owe you's' are getting bigger. You can tell by his public rants of how expensive things are. He simply doesn't like losing money and i get the feeling he's digging in to get the write offs back.

Hence no outside interest. Why would someone pay £200m, or whatever the latest cumulative loss is, more than what we're worth? It's not a good starting point!

I wouldn't be surprised if he has the last bitter laugh & puts us into administration.

Agree with most of that but there’s no way he’d put us into administration.

Why don’t you go out & source an investor. You make it sound so easy like there a queue of financiers wishing SL will step aside & leave the way clear.

If you’re really motivated you won’t let your lack of connections stand in the way.

I’m as frustrated as anyone but the constant digging out, is boring AF

We haven’t got people, groups interested in taking us over because we’re ridiculously over priced’ Steve’s ego won’t let him walk away with a big loss ‘ ( of his own making).

Yes, SL often, persistently in fact backs the wrong horse at the wrong time.

    It's incredible really.

Yep he never learns, you’d think with all the experience we have at the club at the moment he’d be taking some serious advice’ oh hang on a minute.

I suspect Lansdown thinks his biggest mistake was getting involved with Bristol City FC in the first place.

He could make it a lot easier to get rid if his ego would let him’ I’m sure he could find something else for Jon to do’ there’s plenty of greens need cutting at his golf club

Perhaps his son IS his biggest mistake ?

I thought that but didn’t have the balls to write it.

Yeah I completely agree. After all the efforts to get promoted in the first place, the momentum that seemed to generate and the rapid rate the sport is growing you’d have thought there would have been a real effort to stay up and capitalise on the ever growing interest in women’s football, and the WSL in particular. But no.

Just another weird move by what is ever increasingly a very weird football club.

Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever’ why bother if you’re not going to do things properly’ just smacks of us being run on the cheap.

It would be quite interesting to see Brian Tinnions managerial stats here - which were generally regarded as a disaster - compared to Nigel Pearsons.

Of course, they both managed us in different divisions, but then our squad would have been equivalently different.

I don't know how they'd actually stack up as Tinnions stats don't seem to be easily found - but I know for a fact that Pearsons were underwhelming.

Pearson has more football knowledge in his todger than Tinnion has .

Are you able to tell where Southampton finishes and Portsmouth starts? I have never been able to work it out.

As far as Bristol is concerned, those figures look low, but usually the ones quoted are for the Greater Bristol Area, including places like Kingswood which aren't officially Bristol.

Got to be honest no’ but I’d put a big bet on Bristol being a lot bigger than Southampton

Referring to population, we come in 10th in England (11th including Glasgow) according to https://www.citypopulation.de/en/uk/cities/ua/. This includes areas that are geographically contiguous but don't count as City of Bristol.

Edit. Southampton includes Portsmouth on this basis.

I worked in Southampton for a couple of months’ there’s no way that’s correct’’ Bristol is a couple of times bigger at least.

I'm getting the feeling that this club doesn't like experienced people around the place it honestly doesn't make sense at all. Kingy deserves better if I'm honest and yeah a link up with Pearson again could be next watch this space I presume. James leaves as well it's a big chunk of experience leaving the building.

Experienced people would question things’ Steve doesn’t like to be questioned’ he knows best’ it’s his club remember.

I would say you are one of the most respected contributors to this forum Fevs. Your opinions are well balanced and backed up with detailed analysis, unlike a lot of the emotional knee jerk reactions (mine included at times!) or agendas that some have on here.

The fact that Tinnion has blocked you and the Exiled Robin is pretty damning for him. You can understand him blocking people who are being personally abusive but blocking two contributors who are fair and balanced with their opinions is really poor.

Spot on , I think he’s got paper thin skin’ he’s coming across as a little bit paranoid.

Fair enough, but I don't see much evidence that he's always lying, although that's the general consensus on here.  He's a legend to me, and I say that even though I don't believe he has the skill or technical ability for the role he's currently at.  But I don't blame him for trying to succeed at the role, if that's his burning ambition, I'll respect it.

Can’t blame him for taking the money’ there’s no other club in the championship who’d give him the same role’ for me he’s manufactured his position’ it’s just another of sl bizarre decisions.

I'm going out in Weston this afternoon,  ironically one of the acts singing in a bar on the sea front is a blue nose, I've had great banter with him and his wife in the past

I wonder if they'll be as jolly today 😁

I’ve got a couple of mates that are blues fans’ there genuinely pretty chilled about relegation’ they think they’re coming straight back up .
