Most of the players lived up round that way back then jack....

ah ok, bit before my time!

We lived down the road from the BJ. Mike Gibson was our postman - the old man was always star struck whenever he saw him!

  2. He also said we had no game plan and were winging it. He got that right, but absolute state of a commentator - slag us off all you want, but how many years above the G*s for us now is it? Bitter and twisted, their lot

Weimann was a great all-rounder and usually a dead cert to be in the starting XI. Mr Reliable if you will .

Mehmeti is nowhere near that level. Arguably never will be, either.

I wouldn’t put Weimann in the same bracket as Ian Botham, personally

  4. Panel beater one day, world beater the next to paraphrase Paul Jewell when he was at Ipswich!

We’d have been in serious trouble the season before our promotion without his goals, from memory.  Wonderful player to watch when on his game but equally frustrating when not. But those type of flair players are like that and you have to accept that.

    Drew 1-1.

0-1 in the first half, when Backwell got a straight red.

Second half, Yeboah got brought down and Kadji equalised from the spot

Must be a City record for most double-barrelled surnames in a starting XI?

    Didn’t against Fulham.

However we weren’t allowed to watch football in person for about 16 months after that game..

After sitting through today, waiting another 16 months til the next game would be a positive!

  7. some great games already mentioned.

Lee Matthew’s debut v Millwall was a night game I think. 4 players sent off - 2 for us and 2 for them, and Matthews announced himself to the City fans by scoring the winner from the penalty spot in the last minute. Followed by Millwall fans trashing the East End and their players trashing the changing room.

    Eventful.

Prior to Naismith (Cornick was signed after) & if you see Bakinson & Hinds as players that we got from their academy, we haven’t signed a player from Luton before that since Enoch Showunmi.

I think the OP probably has a player in mind that joined from somewhere else, seeing as Enoch was 18 years ago now.

18 years ago! Bloody hell. Where does time go!

  9. Super Bob provided me with one of the best moments that I treasure to this day and will do until I depart - it was the 25 yard half volley against Crewe shortly before pulling up lame. Stood with the old man in the east end, the goal elicited a reaction from him that I’d never seen before - to say he was chuffed with the goal is a drastic under-reaction! Such treasured times.

great player. Was still young at the time so memories hazy but I think he struggled with the step up in class to what is now the Championship although he still got double figures in the first season up. Still gutted to this day that we sold him though.

Yet Pat keeps his job regardless.

A change is desperately needed, and has done for the last 2 years.

Funny how the board were so cut throat when it came to getting rid of Pearson, yet seemingly Lam can do no wrong despite us having regressed completely since the Quins capitulation.

Definitely by accident. He was on his way out of the club and was used as a striker in pre season as a filler as we had no one else available.

I think LJ (or the back room team) identified that his attributes were suited to playing up top, and he tried it pre season and Bobby never looked back.

Also, I think it was that close and pre-season that him and Joe Bryan worked with a personal trainer (who possibly was ex City academy as well) north of the river and they reaped the benefits of that as their fitness (and strength) went up massively.
