No idea how they do pitch it, but the fact is there will be some who absolutely wont make it but the club still need to have the player. It is probably best positioned as you state above but definitely not an easy answer - probably the first step is managing general expectations (re the numbers who make it, putting emphasis on gaining other qualifications if they don’t get through).

As I say, a lot here really has to be on parents keeping kids feet on the ground.

A top GB Sprinter as a 15 year old was told he had to get his A levels and an idea of a career pathway just in case he had a serious injury early on in his career.

When I did my FA badge I was told that if the birthdays of those in the academies was analysed the majority are born between September to December. It's a bit like academic education too where those who are a bit older in the intake, born in the first third of the eligible period, have the advantage over those born in the last third.

However, and this is the interesting thing, those who make it in the pro game are more likely to be born in the last third of any intake, May to August. So that last third are less likely to make it into an academy but when they do they're more likely to make it into the pro game.

Had a quick look at the Bristol City squad and 13 players have birthdays between May to August out of about 28.

I  was team manger for Somerset Athletics Cross country teams ,  over 75% birthday was before January   September to December.  this was for under 13 and under 15 girls and boys

Not sure if you can just walk in. Bookings can be made via the ticket website under hospitality (although not available to book on the day). £10 per person with tables of up to 10 people. The menu sounds limited…just refers to ‘loaded fries menu’.

You might have more luck calling or emailing:

‘To find out more or to check availability please call our events team on 0117 963 0680 or email events@ashtongate.co.uk.

I have rung the number and been on website  Clarkson pie might be best option

I can understand them checking it again in the stand before taking your seat as it prevents anyone trying their luck to find a better seat somewhere else in the ground. However I was checked at the car park entrance whilst 4 other people walked behind me without getting checked so I’m not sure why it’s done outside?

i always ignore them or point to the tick office , i have season ticket , been like all season

Within the games at home you can feel the tension or groans for a misplaced pass, players must be worrying about making a mistake which becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Its often an argument do the players have to perform to get the fans something to cheer about and create the atmosphere or should the fans get the ground buzzing which inspires the players?

Must agree that we are masters of our own doom at times with the negativity about the place

If the singing section sung all game and loud enough to inspire and spread  would we be harder to beat .  home fans not good enough , get rid of in this window and reinvest in louder ones

  10. not read the article , but i came to city through the death of my Father in law , he left a 9 yea old son. the day following funeral i took him to Ashton gate , he has been by my side now 33 ever since .

went together to Coventry  yesterday , we have so many funny memories of our trips . My dad was a whippet man and now my daughter has one . my son came from age of 3 to 18 with us (daughter 4 to 12) If my son is home and city are playing i get a ticket .  i have a tear in my eye just think of my dad and wife's dad  both different and both died young .    did i know what the day after a sad funereal  would give me . glad to been able to do it and hope i am still going 25 years time with a family member
