  1. Crayola kid, I mean what can you say that has not been said already. These comments are deeply depressing, but represent the disdain and total lack of understanding of football by Crayola and his dad. We are a club run by amateurs , cronyism and nepotism. Actually, we are a club now being held to ransom by these people. They have zero accountability, care zero about the fan base, have a 2 decade record of demonstrating a poor understanding of the football business, and yet they feel we should be bowing down to their superiority. It is quite frankly disgusting. They need to go.

  2. The best thing to happen is that Manning goes to Norwich, Tinnion and Crayola get out of jail free with a payout to release him, and we get a number one who fits the needs of a non PP Champ club and the players we have. He is not McKenna. Miles off. I would be delighted if he left.

Though our due diligence next time should not include talking to an ex city player who never actually worked with the person in question.

  3. Maning had. a part to play in that promotion, LJ in Sunderland getting promoted too, and Pearson for Leicester winning the Prem.

Equally Manning a good part to play in MK Dons being relegated, LJ in Fleetwood getting relegated and Pearson in Watford being relegated.

Not sure what anyone is trying to make out here. The record books show, Manning and LJ have never got a club promoted. Neil Warnock is so far ahead of them all.

    McKenna has 2 promotions.

Manning and LJ will struggle to get any team promoted in the next decade for a multitude of reasons, some related to their ability, some well out of their control. Neither are stand out talents like McKenna.

    All IMHO. Many will disagree.

    Pops. He is very correct.
James was the biggest earner. By a distance.
Weimann, even though on revised terms, was still one of the top 3 earners.
King would have been lower, agreed.

You say they were signed during the austerity period.
True. But for us, this meant going with a smaller squad thus enabling us to pay the likes of James, Weimann and Wells the bigger bucks.

James was not the highest earner by some distance. He was at the high end of current levels and there are others who remain,  and earn the same. He was not a stand out as you suggest, you are very wrong. We have signed players after James arrived for the same money he was on. Williams not signing would release the same wage budget as James.

King was paid less that any first team squad player and is of no great consequence in terms of external future signings budget, maybe an under 21 from the academy.

The big wages went with Palmer, Kalas, Dasilva the original Wells deal, and Bentley (in terms of a GK)

Bird will already be covering a significant amount from James lost wage, and losing Weimann will leave space for the "forward" that they desire. TGH is not cheap either. Unless we are increasing the wage budget, and we may well do, there is not much space left for the number 10, particularly if Williams, currently at the top of our earning scale, remains at anything close to his current deal.

  5. One of our better signings, and held together what was then a broken team, which then evolved into helping some of our younger players improve and develop. Raised standards in training and attitude.

    Thank you Matty

He will not be short of offers.

They lack the belief to get it over the line . Like we lack the belief to get to the Prem.

we do mot lack belief, we lack reality. We have a bunch of idiots, led by crayola boy, who actually think the know what they are doing is correct. We lack ability.

  7. I would be very surprised if King does not go on to have a very successful coaching and/or management career.

What a great career story, what. a great guy. What a missed opportunity for BCFC.

  8. Typical end of season nothing game. Not worth saying anything much  apart from a back 3 played with high WB's will create a lot of problems for us. Players were on the beach, noone wanted an injury that would stop them jetting off.

Brum down is great, but the Championship is a slog. We can all sit happy in mid table, but we were 12 points better off than Brum, 4 wins, yet 28 points off of third. It is so easy to go from mid table to a relegation battle. Big recovery plays from QPR, Wednesday and Milwall.

But what a season for Ipswich, non parachute payments, and they lost only 6 games. One of the really great promotion stories.

It’s simple, I missed one game at home last season, Luton Town. I missed one game at home this season, Ipswich Town.
    I rest my case….

Could you miss all of our games next season please.

Yep. Vagueness followed by more vagueness and a bit more vagueness to boot.
And ended with an unnecessary “I know better than you lot” football manager dig.
As I said earlier in the thread, if you actually write his words down and read them back to yourself, he makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Oh, and I’ll add this :

    On managerial recruitment :

”we have our way of playing through the academy. We recruit based on what a manager has shown. Either they work with that or they adapt”.

    On reaching the Prem :

”It’s about gradual steps but we need to make a big leap” what?? “We’ve got the academy and the HPC”.

These 2 comments genuinely tell me that he thinks the way we achieve prem football is via the success of the academy and having a nice training ground - he thinks that we can end up with 11 Bristol kiddies in the team, managed by a young head coach who prefers one style but has to adapt to the way we play from 8 years upwards.

Jon - it ain’t gonna happen that way. Trust me.
    It’s delusional

If there is anyone playing Football Manager it is most certainly Jon and Steve Lansdown. And after 20 years , they still cannot work out how to win.

Crayloa boy is useless, he is only in the role because of his dad, surrounds himself with cronies and is as far detached from the fan base as you can get. Nepotism at its worse.

  11. I read today that Smodics might be off , with a newspaper suggested fee of £20M. When we sold him, it would have had a sell on clause, and that should have rolled into his Blackburn deal/fee. So maybe there is finally a sell on fee of a decent level incoming? Unless we are still needing to raise £10m a year from sales to reduce our losses, that could be a very welcome boost.

Any non-parachute payment club that makes it to the Premier League these days is something to be celebrated so well done if you do it, the playoffs are both thrilling and heartbreaking in well for us at least in equal measure, but if you gave me a chance guaranteed it must be a fantastic way to get a promotion.

Not just get to the Prem, auto promotion That is up there with Leicester winning the Prem. Non PP in an auto spot, wow. One of the greatest football achievements IMHO.

Looks like he’ll be the new Liverpool manager.
I remember a time, only a short four years ago, when he was linked with the managers role here (when he was at AZ).
I think he was at something like 20-1 at one time.
But old Ashton plumped for Dean Holden after a 6 week rigorous and vigorous comprehensive worldwide search.
    What might have been eh??!!

In fairness, Ashton  (who I dislike a lot) had little or nothing to do with appointing LJ or Holden. He did have a lot to do with appointing McKenna. As annoying as that all is.

Facts are, Ashton will have overseen , what seems certain now, a double promotion. He makes me feel like taking some Kwells, but I can see beyond that, and the guy has earned every plaudit going for this. So you have to ask, why he failed at BCFC. We all know that answer. There is a common theme.

I think he knew he couldn't carry on due to health issues. I recall in one of his last interviews he said he just needed a quick op and would be in and out of hospital in "48 hours". That was disingenuous, I believe, and he knew the situation was much more serious.

He spent a week in hospital having tests in Nov/Dec and we know that as of early Jan he still couldn't walk.

For a fact, he would have had to take more time off from the job to get treated. Whatever anyone says, that is a less than ideal situation for the club, and frankly not good for Nige.

He won't see it this way, but ultimately the club may have done him a favour so that he could fully concentrate on getting better.

Seems he's still not 100% fit so I've no idea how or why people think he'd have been able to see the full season out here.

Sacked for being disabled. Some boss or owner you would be. Unreal. Are you serous in what you just wrote? Have a long hard think about what you are saying.

I particularly liked the bit where he said that we can talk about being ambitious (which is why he joined us) but we have to show that in terms of our actions re the squad in the summer. Over to you SL.

Well has nobody told him he has to create at least a £10M transfer profit each season, and still make a push for the play offs? Was it not mentioned at the interview?

This stood out to me. We all know what was said by them all so no need to go over it again.

But to hear them pretty much admit they lied is hilarious.

IMHO, he is lying in the interview. The season expectation was to be challenging top 6. They were not lying when they claimed that Pearson was failing to meet that aim. They are lying now because they expected Manning to easily improve on Pearson. That is not to criticise Manning, he was never equipped to perform such an improvement. Their expectation from the squad and a coach struggling to find his feet was unrealistic. Manning failed to meet their target. The expectation for the next season with the benefit hindsight is the more interesting question to ask. What target have they given Manning for next season? It was top 6 when he was hired, is it still top 6, or is it now mid table? Some clarity about how much money is needed to be generated from player sales in the next 12 months would also be welcome. Has the budget now changed? Is there still a need to create a significant transfer income to offset losses? If not , why not, what has changed Has Sl decided to start backing the club again? Or do we still need £10M plus  net transfer income?

Marshall is another cog in the incompetent and amateur set up at BCFC.

When all the truth comes out about Nigel Pearson's departure, the final story might not be quite the Disney film that some people are expecting, full of heroes and villains. Maybe, just maybe, Jon Lansdown is not a bumbling buffoon, perhaps Brian Tinnion is not actually an evil schemer and, possibly, Nigel isn't the ideal employee everyone would want to have working for them.

Stop talking in riddles, and explain what you mean. You are suggesting you know the truth, so why are you not saying what it is? So come on then. Put it out there and stand by what you say. Go for it.

I cannot wait to hear an explanation of why Jon Lansdown is not a bumbling crayola king buffoon.,Because that stretches well beyond anything to do with Pearson and has a lot of substantive evidence in the public domain. Sadly for you, with little to support your claim.. The floor is yours, we are all waiting for you.

Do what? What would have impressed you in any manager having to take over a Pearson (basket) case 6 months ago? The summer will go well because the club (ie owners & senior, respected managers will back Liam) so you have no reason to have a bad feeling. And what the hell do you mean by regression? Since when, since Cotts or since Johnson? There has been zero regression since Pearson lef; the players are happier, the cup run, we beat or draw with top teams, we smash poor teams etc etc - sometimes the negativity of you (and others) posts is simply baffling. What regression can you possibly mean?

    Baffling indeed.

So the players are happier ? Are you sure ? What makes you say that ? I’ve not yet seen a “ happy o meter “ in football . Are you measuring their smiles ? What is your technique for measuring happiness ? If you have developed something you could be on a big money earner .

Sky sports , we now go over to Ashton Gate live

“ everyone , this is a football first , I’ve never seen so many happy players in a team . They are waving to everyone , handing out money , hugging each other . It’s incredible . Liam Manning is the architect of a new brand of happy football, move over Pep “

    Baffling  indeed

That's one of the things that concerns me. They should name it Russell Martin Syndrome - where a coach has a fixed idea of how to play football and when it's wrong it's still right and the only people who "don't get it" are the players that can't deliver it and the fans who pay to watch it.

Mugs. Punters. What do they know about football? Who have they played for (mind you that goes for our manager tbf!!)? What coaching qualifications do they have? Blah blah blah - you can guarantee that will be heard in Bristol Sport Towers.

The problem with that is when the mugs revolt and say "**** you, I'm not having that, my dough is staying in the old sky rocket"..........then the indulgence suddenly has to stop.

Due to many games being televised in 24, I have watched many Leicester games. As a team they have got much worse the more they have been coached. They are pedestrian in extreme, and stroll around. Gone is the energy and panache of early season, they have just got slower and slower. If they cannot manage the Man City approach with their budget, then woah. I rather think we should all be talking more about McKenna and Ipswich, who still have a chance to win the league, with more than half of a L1 team (though a Championship budget) . Non PP and have caused problems for everyone. They seem to play in the manner Tinnion described. Manning has shown no signs he wants to emulate McKenna, so I am still confused as to what exactly the club are planning to do with Manning next season. Stick with him yes, back him to an extent, yes sure. But to play in what manner?  (as our Teknical boss spoke to Keogh about Manning for a reference, when they did not work together, this is no surprise) That really is the underlying issue, because various topics on this board have failed to unravel any clarity, and the words from the the head of football are not even close to what Manning wants to do. The on pitch displays range from mind numbing boredom to exciting (when the players go feral) So if everyone is confused, that in my opinion will lead to one inevitable conclusion.

Being generous you can say, give him a pre season, forget he failed to deliver the objectives this season , let him have some of his own players (Mebude), set up how he really wants , all the time on the hybrid grass that he desires, and then judge him. The excuses are gone, and he can deliver what some believe he is able to and demonstrate his ability. The less generous, is let him do that and he will be out of a job in Nov, we will have a jumbled up squad, and another season is wasted and we face a relegation battle.

We will find out in September, so enjoy 5 months off.
