  1. Like Diego Maradona but usually started on the bench.
  2. If there was any doubt go to 40:45
  3. Both of Garry Nelson's books are excellent. Left Foot Forward and Left Back in the Grave. Rick Gekoski's account of Coventry City's 97/98 season, Staying Up, is absolutely hilarious as well. I can't believe a Premier League (at the time) football club allowed some random American the access that he had.
  4. Ellen White’s play reminds me so much of Gary Lineker. Movement, burst of pace and finishing. Just as I type that she lets herself down a bit! For once, Lucy Bronze is not obviously the best player on the pitch either, which is a rarity.
  5. A pint of lager, a gin and tonic and a Bailey’s chaser will make anyone feel bilious.

Never nice to be the one to give the ball away and allow the opposition to counter attack but we are so static, just stood around expecting one of us to dribble through the entire Israel team.
  7. I seem to remember this was while Davison was in charge, so 96-98 time. It may have even been after his original plans to redevelop the Williams. I don’t think it ever got beyond it being identified as a location for a new stadium though.
  8. Bearing in mind we released him last summer and Milton Keynes Dons released him this summer... sell-ons are right out (much like counting to 5 when about to lobbeth the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch). Seriously, we might be due some sort of development fee if Notts County were to sell him for money, but it would be miniscule (1% if that). Pretty sure we signed him as an 18 year old from FGR too, which would take even more money out of our pocket. How unreasonable.
  9. Knowing Ashley (albeit only the persona portrayed by the media) it won’t be generous!
  10. As someone who has followed the story with a a growing opinion that Q are basically chancers it’s hard not to think that Mike Ashley, as truculent and difficult as he obviously is, is probably right, if the above story is true! Bearing in mind the situation, if I were a Derby fan I would be furious that Ashley was being blocked. That man knows how to run a football club within its means, after all, as much as he was criticised for it.
  11. Madrid are so upset they’ll have to sell their training ground to the Spanish government and get a new one for free to make up for it.
  12. Wycombe replacing Derby has a certain karma about it.
  13. And booze. Lots and lots of booze.
  14. Retired? He’s had more comebacks than Johnny Farnham.
  15. Bristol City convinced up to seven more Championship clubs face points deductions for FFP breaches Middlesbrough and Stoke also face severe scrutiny as Covid-inflicted collapse in transfer values makes it impossible to offset FFP losses ByTom Morgan, SPORTS NEWS CORRESPONDENT16 February 2022 • 5:00pm Bristol City have long been perceived as one of the most financially stable regimes below the Premier League CREDIT: PA Up to seven Championship clubs are feared to be heading towards financial fair play breaches, as pressure grows on the Football League to agree new force majeure Covid allowances. Bristol City, who last month became the first club to admit they may be forced to take a points deduction next year, are now convinced they will not be alone. With the transfer market remaining depressed during the January window, Middlesbrough and Stoke are among other clubs facing intense scrutiny as the EFL enters the next 12 months of its three-year "profit and sustainability" cycle. "I'd have thought there will five, six, seven in our league in a similar position as we are and there will be others that are struggling," Jon Lansdown, City's chairman, now believes. Richard Gould, the club's chief executive, told Telegraph Sport last month how the Covid-inflicted collapse in transfer values in the second tier cost the club £30 milllion alone. Under the ownership of the Lansdown family, the West Country club has long been perceived as one of the most financially-stable regimes below the Premier League. Overspending at Ashton Gate will be eased slightly next season by a new club record sponsorship deal. Ecommerce firm Huboo will now feature on the shirts of all the Bristol Sport teams - City's men and women sides, Bristol Bears rugby and Bristol Flyers basketball. For City, the decision to part with MansionBet could prove wise ahead of the Government's gambling bill white paper, which could ban betting sponsors on shirts. Another option for City is to secure naming rights at Ashton Gate for the first time, but, while the club continues to lose £412,000 a week, the introduction of new controls, such as a soft salary cap, and a recovery in transfer values appears most urgent. "I'd like to think that Bristol City is looked at as a very stable, well run football club, locally-owned, with sensible actions," Lansdown, whose billionaire father Stephen owns the club, added. "We've all got slightly different models but you can see our track record that we use the transfer market so we can have a slightly higher wage than a club of our size would normally have."
  16. I’m in the opposite camp. It would either be a really good interview or The Office levels of difficult to listen to. Either way, I would enjoy it.
  17. Is Nige saying ‘hello’ or ‘help’? Both are equally valid as far as this season goes!
  18. 2 words: Francis Lee. In other words, we were well versed in the art of deception back in the 60s and 70s. Edit: Fevs, beat me to it. Standard. More on topic, what was Martin Scott’s song, back in the day?
  19. I’ve yet to see us be remotely dangerous against a team who are happy with a point whilst we remain equally susceptible to any sort of counter attack in games when we’re asked to break down our opponents. I’m behind Pearson and want us to stick with him and trust him to sort it out in time but, sadly, I can see the abysmal home record going on a little while yet unless there a complete change in how effective we are.
  20. I'm expecting (hoping) to see Fleming sporting the Britney Spears/Sam Allardyce (take your pick) headphone & microphone contraption this evening relaying orders from a spluttering Nige who is wrapped up with a warm blanket and a Lemsip/whisky (take your pick) while his wife asks him to calm down and to stop swearing at the telly and does he know that his phone has been in a call for 75 minutes?
  21. We (Warwickshire) are bowling really well. Getting movement and a little help from the pitch now too. Our catching in the slips has been good. Yates has held on to a couple of tough ones. Honestly, I haven't seen anything that makes me think Somerset are not interested or giving their wickets away, it's just hard.
  22. More like Kingdom Come and Led Zeppelin.
  23. Despite spending 13 of the last 15 seasons in the Championship I still don't think of us as a regular fixture! Probably because it took us so long to recover from relegation in 1999. As for SL's investment it's hard not to think he feels a little hard done by, but you reap what you sow, and there's been some big mistake seeds planted since SL has been driving the tractor. The appointment of Pulis, Wilson (or more specifically "the drinking culture"), Tins, GJ being seemingly unable to recruit and manage players that might have got us to the next level post 2008, the spiralling costs then the cost cutting and inevitable disaster that followed him to the strangeness of not backing Cotterill followed up by backing Ashton. We're rebuilding again now... just this time, we're doing it in the Championship (and picking up points, albeit not convincingly right now). That's progress of a sort! Absolutely. I'd hope we wouldn't deliberately game the system, whoever is in charge. Whether it's SL and his way of doing things or an individual or consortium who wouldn't convert their loans (whether it's their money or money they've borrowed). I suppose, unless any of these clubs generate a lot of transfer revenue, most of them will still run at a "manageable" and acceptable loss, as far as the rules go, like we do!
