  1. You're assuming the interview process was our usual "vigorous & rigorous" approach. How many people were seen or was it simply, as rumour has it, SL sought Richard Scudamore's advice and went with PA whose track record, on paper, is exemplary - if he could survive Ron Noades & Simon Jordan, I would say SL is a puppy in comparison!
  2. Couldn't agree more [that's a first ?] and in my line of work that is often the reason why people leave after a short tenure following an otherwise stable employment record It could well explain PA's low profile since he's been here, i.e. realising within a matter of weeks that this was a not an "as sold" opportunity but going with the flow for a few months to preserve personal dignity.
  3. Was there. Cashley kicking towards open end, wind behind him, Wealands stood on spot far, ball bounces in the D and it's a goal!!!
  4. He was NOT involved in big deals when at Palace. Read this reply to my post on their forum when he joined: https://www.holmesdale.net/page.php?id=106&tid=181641
  5. Recruitment IS an art, not a science. When I help in the hiring of a director for a company I give a 12 month indemnity - replacement FOC if appointee leaves within this period after commencement. I view making the hire as a shared decision, I take a degree of ownership for something I've been told I don't really have to more than once. I back my candidates and my approach is why I build relationships and get repeat business. Scudamore is not a recruiter and, arguably, he's a fan like most of us. He recommended PA in good faith, the fact that it doesn't appear to have worked out is one of those things. Scudamore may be a little embarrassed by what's happened but does he really know how SL operates at close quarters? I am convinced PA's departure will be put down to personal reasons but he will have signed a compromise agreement and get a pay off on condition there is no disclosure of the real reason.
  6. Really? Why would he not want to extend? You and I have talked about giving NP a new 12 month rolling contract wef 1/1/24 which, in reality, is only committing the club to 6 more months than what he currently has ( i.e. current contract runs out 30/6/24)
  7. I wonder how Richard Scudamore feels about that as, I believe, SL sought his counsel on who to appoint?
  8. Has he attended any other SC&T meetings in the 8 months he's been here? If no, that's not a good look IMHO.
  9. Would be nice, and no fee as I'd do it for the crack! Unlikely in view of some of my posts on here and X. I'm a subversive rather than from the "we're lucky to be where we are" camp! ??
  10. I do recall one game pre-Christmas Vs Burnley in 97/98. We were trailing 0-1 and I bigged us up as the team came out at the start of the 2nd half. We turned it around and won. Wardy made a point of thanking me in the post match presser as he said it acted as a boost. Used to do ClubCall for a few years too until Jed Pitman (later HTV) took on full time job of Regional Editor. Who remembers the number? 0898 12-11-76
  11. Yes, it is me! Started doing the PA from 94 iirc after Tottle stopped. Finished in 99 when they wanted Sam Mason pitchside. Prior to doing PA from 83-94 covered club home & away for GWR until station switched to all music programming. Great memories dealing with TC, Joe Jordan & Wardy. Used to travel on team coach away with Tottle & Latham. Never ever won in card school on trip home!
  12. I posted this on Palace forum earlier this year and it is clear from this [and in another thread from summer 22 when he resigned] that PA's skill is on commercial opportunities not player contracts: https://www.holmesdale.net/page.php?id=106&tid=181641 A little worrying that a CEO of obvious standing but not on player contracts was "leading" the negotiations on the sale for our prized asset - who's telling the truth here, PA or SL When the deal was done SL said we achieved "asking price" which is the £25M but for all we know that could be £18M plus £7M in add ons - we did after all sell Alex in a "crocked" state and our desire to get this over the line to fund the acquisitions made "in advance" may have played a part in all of this
  13. We were in agreement on FBC Podcast yesterday that, to quell rumours of a fractured relationship with SL due to the "without Scott" apparent change of strategy, it would send a positive signal that things aren't as bad as they seem to offer Pearson a rolling 12 month contract if we are in the top half at the turn of the year. This is tantamount to just offering him a 6 month extension on his current deal.
  14. The form of Mehmeti & Cornick is, at best, evidence of making acquisitions that are no better than what we already had
  15. Have you ever heard SL utter a single word of praise for Nige. Very quick to salivate over Robins and take a dig at NP with his recent comment about our squad being better than Luton's, the inference being NP should be getting more of a "tune" out of them.
  16. He did say that and his *rse licking of Robins is verging on embarrassing ?
  17. Agree 100% with all of this. OK, Pearson's record is open to question but he has steered us through a "reset" without the usual relegation to League 1. Lansdown should show NP a little respect by offering NOW a 1 year extension. Up to Pearson then if he signs it or not. As I've said on FBC Pod I think SL doesn't like NP and running the contract down is a lest cost option even if it triggers another season of mediocrity ror us fans. It's Lansdown's trainset and he can do what he likes
  18. SL used the term building up a "next egg" in his recent Guernsey Press interview
  19. RIP Lisa Always helpful and always cheerful.
  20. Maybe he was never going to be ready for the start of the season and we bought an injured but recovering player in similar fashion to how Bournemouth bought Scott. Back 1967 Alan Dicks signed John Galley when his ankle was in plaster! First game some weeks after signing saw him grab a hat trick in a 3-0 win at Huddersfield
  21. He was known as Teflon Phil at Palace as nothing stuck on him amidst the *hitstorm associated with the club twice going into admin, i.e. keeps a low profile (CP's financial problems not his fault in fairness). Btw, his forte is "commercial deals", nothing on the playing side like MA
  22. I get your point about the nuances. However, the Robins TV coverage is great with replays and different camera angles more than, IMHO, compensating for those nuances.
