  1. "HMS Piss the League is pretty much at the bottom of the ocean." https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/joey-barton-wael-bristol-rovers-5222982
  2. What next, Gas celebrating blue sky over Ashton Gate?
  3. Sadly I was just too young to see the proper Clash lineup (Strummer, Jones, Simenon, Headon) but was anybody at the Joe Strummer Rock against the Rich gig in Bristol 1988?. Lots of anarchist shennanigans going on, Class War supported the tour, they were a notorious anarchist organisation of the time. It was brilliant! and working for the NHS at the time, I was fully behind the sentiments of torching Porsches and yuppie flats that the organisers espoused....! Not the scariest gig I ever went to though - that was the Angelic Upstarts in Exeter around 1983, the day after Exeter City had played the Gas. All the neanderthal NF Gas skinheads stuck around for the gig and created mayhem. As a students we just were relieved to get out without getting a kicking having lurked in the shadows at the gig. The Upstarts, just like Sham 69 attracted, and for no real reason, far right morons to their gigs.
  4. Special request for Bristol Rovers FC this evening https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCrvxPUXsCo and RIP for Paul Raymond, Paul 'Tonka' Chapman and the inimitable Pete Way
  5. University freshers week display complete with whiteboard that looked like it had been coloured in by a 5 year old. Open top bus parade along deserted streets to celebrate finishing 2nd in the Conference.
  6. Err.. I was talking about the Gas! Sadly I can't see FGR's attendances ever being higher than the Gas. Even more sadly I don't think FGRs attendances at the new stadium will be any higher than they are in Nailsworth. At least after the novelty wears off. It will be 8 miles from the existing core supporter base and the support for the move is far from universal.
  7. It will be interesting if and when restrictions are removed this season, to see how their attendances compare to Plymouth and Swindon. Guaranteed that Plymouth would be higher home and away, Swindon would be closer. 4th biggest club in the West Country anyone?
  8. "The move to Twerton Park will provide supporters with upgraded facilities" Not a sentence that's been uttered by many I would guess!
  9. To be fair, it's probably because it's the only thing that they could find to rhyme with 'blue'
  10. Plymouth's last home gate over 10,500! Rovers now 4th biggest football club in the South West..
  11. Another car crash interview for our enjoyment. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p07y13wn From 17:00 onwards. "For reasons of confidentiality I can't comment on that"
  12. Yes I was wondering about this too. Surely SL could chuck a relative pittance at it to make the team competitive, or are there financial restrictions? I would certainly be a whole lot cheaper to get the ladies to the top of the prem than the men! Would be good publicity for Bristol Sport too if they were up there challenging, with the push to popularize the Women's game at present. Of all the components of Bristol Sport the ladies team surely would be the easiest to get to the very top I would tthink?
  13. I sometimes wonder if Bristol Rovers isn't real, that it's some kind of TOWIE type soap opera purely for our enjoyment. I mean when they won at Ipswich they were 3rd, on a roll and with a home game to come against AFC Wimbledon to go 2nd and I rhink City lost that day. Lireraly No-one would have written a sscript where the manager walks out to go to team in danger of relegation to the National League, they employ a new manager who's never played, managed or won a game of football in his life and they drop like a stone to 12th and lose at home to the team in 23rd in L2 whe there was a real chance of a Wembley final.
  14. Blimey, there was an amazingly accurate prediction here!!! pongo88 OTIB Supporter 4,928 6,710 posts Location: A little to the east of west and a bit south of north Report post #947 Posted April 22, 2014 If they go down, I can see them being a marquee club as well. They'll start work on their new ground, and run out of money, so will just have a few large tents around the pitch instead of proper stands.
  15. I'm intrigued by what looks like a Tannoy speaker top right? Rather than it being bolted to the stanchion horizontally in the traditional manner, it appears to be suspended by a cable looped over a nail attached to one of the tent poles and therefore just dangles limply, pointing straight down Ian Holloway lurking suspiciously outside the shitter too.
  16. While the fines for late returns are nothing even for a tinpot operation like Rovers one thing you do not want to do is provoke HMRC to have a closer look at your affairs. Not submiting on time wil certainly do that!
  17. Same for me except that for some reason that I've long since forgotten, I follow Alloa and a Partick loss today would have been great. Still as the only part time team in the Scottish Championship, Alloa are putting up a great fight. Last season Brechin got 5 points or something and didn't win a game all season...
  18. It's the same weird gurning/yawning/nervous tick thing that Clarke was doing towards the end of his reign. Is there some sort of Scooby Doo type thing going on where it's actually Clarke wearing a mask and putting on a really bad 'Oirish' accent. Come to think of it, has anyone seen Clarke recently? "If it wasn't for you meddling meddling teds, we'd have got away with it" etc
  19. Jeez if anything is going to make Tomlin "reconsider his life choices", it surely has to be running out on to the pitch at that dump.
  20. Yes there's Stefan Payne who not only doesn't score but called his own supporters "w****rs" a couple of weeks ago.
  21. Surely time for the old Billy Connolly, Partick Thistle joke... I hear the Al Qadi family are planning to change Bristol Rovers' name, the club will be known as "Bristol Rovers Nil". I thank you
  22. Dont forget the £350k "Striker" who has scored 1 goal in 57 games or whatever it is And he was Marty Taylor's replacement! This comedy is ongoing.
  23. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...really not a good day for BRFC even by their own low standards, maybe they were attempting to bury bad news with more bad news! Application to turn barns into residential use at The Colony has been refused by SGC. No ecological surveys were submitted. Now I'm no expert in planning but Ecological surveys are a pretty basic requirement. https://developments.southglos.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=PDE6U0OK0F100
  24. So, whisper it quietly, do we think they might sneak play-off place? I think the top 5 is out of reach but that last play off place is very much up for grabs. Plymouth could be the heroes who stop them, they've come from about 10pts down and bottom place and still have the Gas at home to come I think. Whatever you think about them, it would be some achievement by Clarke given the background he's working against and he's had F all support from the rest of the clowns in charge.
  25. This is what swissgas posted (and to be honest he seems to have far more clue what's going on than Hamer.) So the man with the money wants to protect his "investment" by putting a charge on the ground. However that "investment" is currently losing about £2 million a year apparently This is not going to end well is it.
