  1. Can’t say I’ve got much enthusiasm for this, for me the important thing is being at the game. A TV League with no crowd holds little appeal.

If we do go up, I hope City refund ST monies for all un-watched games and refund the cost of my Forest ticket. They’ll be telling us how many millions it’s worth, we’ll they can do the right thing by the fans before handing vast riches to the players.

All a bit surreal really, play offs with no fans? Sorry, that’s just so wrong. Even though it doesn’t help City, I’d rather just promote the top 3 and be done with it. Has nobody worked out what will happen on final day?

If the worst case scenario happened of clubs going out of business I’d rather see the football league operate with less clubs or more pushed up from the conference than allow B teams. Of course the ideal thing to do would be for the premier league and it’s teams to be generous and help out the lower leagues.....

Of course, we could always close tax loopholes, stop bailing out tax avoiders, and use that revenue to protect community assets and other businesses adversely affected by the virus. PL players could donate a portion of their salaries to help struggling clubs.

I’m sure that played a (small?) part....but people are continuing to catch covid because lockdown isn’t really lockdown.  Enough people are still going about their daily things to a degree....passing on / catching covid.  The fact that R is between 0.5 and 0.9, shows the inconsistency around the country.  Putting more people into the “mix” by relaxing “semi-lockdown” at this stage seems to be a big risk.

If we are going to relax lockdown (whenever) I want it to be communicated to me as an adult.  I want to know the expectations re positive cases, deaths, etc, if for example coffee shops / cafes are allowed to open and what it will mean if ignored.  I want a best case, expected case, worst case together with timeline.  It is only then we can judge. I don’t think I’m asking for much.  If that’s in a 200 page document, some will be happy with a summary.  I’ll happily read all of it, well at least the bits I can understand.  I read the Testing Strategy doc earlier this week....mainly to prove Hancock was lying in the press briefing.  You find out some interesting stuff...I’ve got time on my hands!!!  They fob us off, thinking nobody will check things.

You want to communicated as an adult? Have you not been watching the series of inept half-wits doing the daily BS? There is absolutely no hope of them ever doing anything in a mature fashion, as the incompetents battle between the economy and lives, and continue ignoring credible science or experiences elsewhere.
Let’s not forget - Highest death rate in Europe, despite being an island and one of the last Countries affected.

  4. Personally, I think that the one thing this useless Government has done well is allowing exercise. Most have been sensible, and the mental and physical benefits far outweigh any risk. The people committing serious breaches would have done this anyway, as we don’t have the resource to police it.

Some shops are finding creative ways around the lockdown mainly as there is absolutely no leadership, no plan, endless spin and contradictory messages.

I am not criticising our government for not getting things open but I am criticising them for acting too slowly from the off. If they had acted quicker in all areas (PPI, testing, stopping people coming in) then things would be a lot better now.

Very British, look like we are going to have the highest death toll in Europe, despite having a chance to learn from Italy, so we blame the Chinese!

    Dutch football off till September

maybe people will start using common sense and working out it isn’t happening anytime soon

Of course it won’t be happening soon, way too many issues to allow a quick restart, not least the problem if a member of club staff tests positive. Also issues with contracts expiring 30 June, survival of clubs, lack of income for closed door games etc.

  7. End season now, and try and find a way to deal with promotion/ relegation that avoids legal challenges. Doubt that it’s realistic to rush it, hold play offs etc.

Just reading about rugby, big issue with contracts as extending beyond 30 June would represent a restraint of trade, plus some clubs will be happy to see players released on that date for financial reasons.

Has to be a huge degree of reality and pragmatism. There will also be a number of clubs in the League who may never re-start due to bankruptcy.

I suppose they want a mass gathering to help their "cause" as well....

Got to love them though haven't you - on the climate crisis "we must listen to the scientists and experts", now on this situation the Government are actually listening to the scientists and experts and that ain't good enough for them.

Shame they can't just self isolate themselves, as this "protest" is helping nobody whatsoever imo.

Slight flaw is that the Italians have been warning us to act quickly for weeks, and the WHO advice is about fast action, testing and social distancing. We seem to have woken up too late, and the NHS will shortly be swamped.

Funny how we managed for 100s of years before we joined the EU, don't worry I'm sure we will be fine we usually are.

Not the time for this Brexit stuff. The U.K. needs to work closely with other Countries right now, noting that the EU Countries are pooling resources, data and information. We should be putting our pride to one side and joining that, after all, putting a flag on your FB status and saying ‘we won’ gives you zero immunity.

Economies will crash badly, the World is in crisis, so how can we even begin worrying about trade deals?
And how did individual EU Countries close their borders? I thought we had lost control of ours?? Remember, Brexit is about our last priority right now.

My views are quite clear, just over half the country are mad, or been lied to.

The only way that I can cope is that I haven’t kids, however having no skin in the game does make me unattractively gloating.  Not a good look.

Need to work on that, but suck it up you plastic flag wavers.

Agree re Brexit, but the U.K. needs to grow up rapidly. Brexit is irrelevant, we need to work as closely as possible with other Countries, sharing resources, data and information. We have no idea what mess economies will be in by the end, so no point thinking about trade deals.

Politically, it’s very clear that Johnson is way out of his depth and totally the wrong man for the job. It’s not Johnson or Corbyn as many believe, we just need a cross party effort pooling the best talents, led by somebody who is not divisive, and is capable of rational decision making.

Would the players be made to play under Force Majeure?

Would make most sense but no idea if it can apply in this sense or if it needs to be actually stated in contracts when signed

Rather a lot of clubs will be in financial dire straits by then. If there is no definite date for re-starting, I doubt that many clubs will be able to afford to offer new contracts.

    It happened.

It’s the possibility of a decent trade agreement that’s being screwed by this (Not that I ever thought we’d get one).

Love to see the Venn diagram between all those ‘Blitz Spirit’, ‘Dunkirk’, ‘D-Day’ spouting gammons and those stockpiling ******* Andrex.

    I’m imagining just 1 circle.

Interestingly, the EU is planning a major equipment pooling effort, plus sharing information and data. Whatever your views on Brexit, it’s a great pity that we are not part of this.

Very surprised the response hasn't become more robust.  I've been highlighting the need for balance between economic and health concerns, but this now feels like it's swinging too far one way.

Will also be interesting to see if this has an impact on attendances this weekend.

We can certainly agree on this. Certainly didn’t want panic measures, but this just comes across as hopelessly complacent and inadequate.

It’s not illogical at all. You want to delay the virus where you can while balancing the economic risks of doing so.

In the case of football, the risk of spread outweighs the economic damage.

In the case of public transport, the risk of economic damage outweighs the risk of spread.

It may reach a point where there is justification for shutting down everything - and we might even be at that point now - but that doesn’t make the argument illogical. An economic disaster can itself become a health disaster, so it is entirely reasonable to attempt to strike that balance.

But the scientific evidence seems to be that it’s much harder to catch in the open air than in enclosed indoor spaces. You either want to delay it or you don’t.

  15. Seems to be a case of doing something to grab headlines rather than the right thing. The economic argument re public transport is illogical, as you either want to delay it or not, all measures have economic consequences. I would suggest that Elwood Park is much lower risk than packed public transport. Then of course there are the Euros, worst time to hold them across Europe with plenty of travelling.
