So why do you think he failed so badly Dave? On the face of it he does have the pedigree and having Tommy and others here should have helped him settle in.

Looking back on his debut (only home appearance) it was in a game where everything was going badly and the fans were very frustrated generally. He comes on, a young inexperienced kid, and from his first touch the crowd really got on his back. He looked a rabbit in headlights to me, TC even went over to put an arm around him at one stage. I don't know if that affected Mannings choices from then on, but he may have been reticent to let the kid take that again.

Having said that, he could have brought him on when the crowd were in a better mood, (5-0 up Vs Blackburn for example) or used him more away from home, but he didn't.

I just feel for a player of that talent to slip away so badly either suggests a mental issue, or that he has already lost his love for the game and has made his money already.

I rate your views but that’s a generous interpretation.

He actually made his first appearance late on against Southampton when we were already 3 up, certainly some on here were then saying how promising he looked, when effectively all he had to do was keep possession against a side that already knew the game was over.

The QPR appearance a few days later should have set alarm bells ringing, I remember posting at the time just how absolutely abysmal he was in his half hour on the pitch only to be told “give him a chance” & that I was judging him too early.

After that he only got on the pitch once more, for 9 minutes against Cardiff a month later.

A fair few of us heard he really wasn’t looking good in training & as the weeks passed & he was an unused sub game after game it seemed likely that he was only on the bench because there was probably a financial penalty clause that made it in our interest to do so but realistically (as was obvious when we were 5 up against Blackburn & he still didn’t get on) & we didn’t fill the bench anyway, in any event he wasn’t ever playing for us again.

Tinnion really shouldn’t have hyped him up the way he did, though to be balanced, our recruitment overall in the last two years has been excellent & we were at least smart enough here to go for a “try before you buy”.

Will be astounded if he ever makes the grade at our current level.

Thanks for the largely positive comments about the interview.

With regard to FBC losing its "independence" tag by suckering up to the club, we've been "let in" & listened to what Tinns & Gavin Marshall had to say in their respective interviews. One cannot attack all of the time, an approach borne out of frustration and, rest assured, when the action gets underway again from August we'll be giving our usual candid view on what we see on the grass.

I’ll say one thing- your content has created lots of reaction on here & now a lengthy Bristol Live article summarising it that wouldn’t have ever seen the light of day otherwise.

Not going to ever agree with you on certain things (like you care) but you do provide a lot of talking points as a result in a media setting that has been completely transformed by the internet.

  3. Becomes only the second City player to feature in a full international for Scotland whilst with us.

Paul Hartley was the other, Jamie McAllister was also on the bench a couple of times but didn’t get on the pitch.

Gow, Ritchie & Sweeney never did.

Michael Flynn appointed as Manager today I see

Think that increases the likelihood of us loaning them players.

Pretty sure he had a few at Newport & possibly Kadji at Swindon?

Every time we have a player who we like who is tailing off I see the "maybe keep them on as coach" comment and I hate it because we have no knowledge if they've been instrumental in developing anyone's game.

Coaches are better with experience imo, I'd much rather a coach who is proven than taking on Wells Just because he's been a good pro. I think it also depends if he wants to keep on playing, he could do a hell of a job in a League One team so if he wants to keep playing he could just drop down, take wages cut but still earn and play

Agree but to be fair to Wells Tommy has regularly said how much help & support he’s been to him, plus because of someone I know close to the first team squad he’s been like it with first year pros too.

I don’t think there’s any chance he stays with us as a coach beyond his playing contract but he’s certainly added more off field value than many.

  6. He’s 34 tomorrow.

Think he’s managed to change a few people’s perceptions during his time with us & still see him as a valuable squad man next season, but fully expect it to be his last one with us.

And the chief both @ Bedminster Cricket club

    That’s quality.

Loved watching those two on the football pitch, would have been great to see them play cricket.

Both heroes of mine, 2 proper blokes.

    You're winning at the moment

Though I was intrigued which of our first team players have played local cricket

I can't say I am aware of any, I am intrigued who did though @22A

Gary Shelton did, but this is all from a very long time ago..

Wasn't he signed by Sean O'Driscoll?  He was really first rate for us and improved dramatically but kind of got stuck in his progress and stood still or went backwards and didn't seem to recover. Glad to hear he's still playing.

Yep, signed by SOD for £100k.

Not O’Driscoll’s biggest fan but he also brought in JET, Pack, Flint, Fielding & Wagstaff..

Some right shite as well, Elliot Parish, Brian Howard, Nicky Shorey, Marlon Harewood..

  10. Rangers CEO has just resigned.

Apparently he’s a City fan, now I don’t think for a minute we’d actually appoint someone qualified for the job (look how that worked out with Phil Alexander) but it makes you think, doesn’t it?

How about Klopp, as Fevs has said Bayern won't have been looking at how Kompany manages in the PL with one of the weakest squads at his disposal they'd have looked at the Championship season and his time with Anderlecht. And as for high profile he's a massive draw for players wanting to work for him just because of who he is. Bayern will also have had a glowing recommendation from Guardiola for Kompany.

Wenger, Antonio Conte, Dyche, Roberto Martinez, Southgate all have too.

Still good to learn that Kompany apparently got the job because he’s cultured & speaks several languages..

Certainly not suggesting McCrorie is “bit part”, suggesting in a back-5 he is currently 1st choice (debate discuss).  I’m suggesting that the back-up to him at RWB isn’t there….at least to play the role LM wants a RWB to play, which is to play “both ways” with energy and physicality.  Tanner and Sykes fall short in their own ways.  If McCrorie were to get injured, I think we’d have a sub-optimal RWB solution.

I genuinely didn’t think you were..

Definitely first choice at RWB if we play a back 3/5, just disagree that Sykes is a decent alternative, think he would be good there.

That having been said I much prefer a back four, like Tanner there more & see Sykes best position is wide right in a front three..

Don’t know how we’ll line up yet though, do we?

    I think as a back-4 it’s a reasonably well balanced.

As a back-5 it looks overly reliant on McCrorie (who some aren’t sold on) at RWB.  Without him you are looking at Tanner or Sykes playing there, which I don’t think is best use of their strengths.

I also think the back-5 wastes squad members in the front-5 too.

Certainly agree that Tanner isn’t really a RWB but Sykes is a viable option for me if we play that formation.

McCrorie was a relatively expensive addition, is in the Scotland squad now & at 26 should be approaching his peak, coming back to my earlier squad size point, we aren’t a big enough club to have players like him as simply bit part options.
