We didn’t even have a relegation fight this season, and have begun to improve. A lot depends on who leaves and arrives, but I’m anticipating a modest improvement to mid table (by which I mean the middle eight - 9th to 16th).

A couple of people have mentioned it, and I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of completely scrapping offside. In theory it would open up more space on the pitch, but of course could utterly change the basic structure and tactics of the sport. It works with 5 a side and ice hockey though, so I’d like to see an experiment. Does anybody know when and why it was originally introduced? I know it was revised quite early on.

It always seemed a bit odd to support us from such a distance, yet spend so much time raging about being such a rubbish club with such a pathetic history. I was never sure if the fulminations were as alcohol fuelled as they were often alleged to be though.

I was disappointed not to hear any mention of Prince Henry, who seems to have had a lot of short term loans this season. Is he progressing OK? 18 and seems to have echoes of Semenyo.

They certainly had a long fallow period! 40 years between their second and third titles (1911 and 1951). I don’t think they were really a top club before Busby. But they were before Ferguson. Best, Charlton and Law helped. And, ironically, the Munich setback.

I believe Man U have won 20 league titles, 9 not with Ferguson. Forest have won one. Under Clough. None without.

In over 150 years, Forest have been major underachievers, except for the Clough era. Still achieved much more than us, mind!

In other news, JM is also expected to be LJ’s assistant at Hibs. That will be quite the commute. Stretching himself a bit thin.

Nobody seems to know exactly how the squad values are arrived at - but the £30M shown for us is less than many on OTIB seem to think we should get for Scott and Semenyo alone!
