  1. When all the truth comes out about Nigel Pearson's departure, the final story might not be quite the Disney film that some people are expecting, full of heroes and villains. Maybe, just maybe, Jon Lansdown is not a bumbling buffoon, perhaps Brian Tinnion is not actually an evil schemer and, possibly, Nigel isn't the ideal employee everyone would want to have working for them.

It feels a stupid and needless call to have made anyway..my preference was a new 3 year deal and reasonable financial backing personally.

I think a lot of fans would've appreciated it. I was fine with his actions, the hierarchy were in the wrong anyway...now look a fractured fanbase, here and social media it is crap.

The preference of those who were a lot closer to him was to try somebody else. If LM had performed as well in the league as in the cup, we would not be having this discussion and City-related social media would be a much less unpleasant place.

An orderly transition in the summer could have been better granted, to perhaps a better fit of a candidate, (jury remains out) but tactically in a consistency continuity sense.

Was NP really behaving in a way that suggested he would cooperate in an "orderly transition"?

In which case the change was not necessary.

The easier option was to renew his contract. They would have saved themselves a lot of flak. They thought that getting someone else in would be better for the club. The CEO, who had been in the job for what, weeks? just said what he thought was the right thing to say at the time. It reminds me of when Bernd Schuster was managing Real Madrid and, when asked whether they could beat Barcelona in the next game, he said that was "impossible". He was sacked a couple of days later.

So CEO Marshall was the only one who categorically said PROMOTION was the aim THIS SEASON.

If he said anything else, he would have been pilloried and rightly so. How we have gone from this glib comment to a general feeling of entitlement to promotion is simply baffling.

They went one better…they said promotion this season, not just top 6.  Of course that was a ridiculous statement.  Possible to achieve?  Yes, but we were talking downhill, wind behind, clutch in.

    They promised promotion this season?

  7. The podcast is great to listen to, particularly the first few minutes, and Ian's lack of love for Big Nige is refreshing. They make it look very easy but I'm sure it's a lot easier to do a crap podcast. Keep up the good work and thanks for the effort.

Even now after all these years do I still find it confusing that others can’t accept what I’m saying…………:dunno:

Even now after all these years do I still find it comforting that RR can wheel out his "can't understand the difference between news and a rumour" routine and still raise a smile.

  9. I presume DB is taking over from Lisa Knights who has been appointed CEO of Bristol Flyers. As for Adam Baker, yes, please bring him back. Interviews have gone down the toilet since he left.

So, how did everybody get on. Anyone get house? Anyone get a line at least? (Not the powdery kind)

A few "front foot" references. His main line was something about getting somewhere in a certain way and how there was a great fit between his vision and the club's vision of how to get to this mystical place. A sort of a rehash of the bus metaphor but without the bus.

Not losing any sleep over this. I don’t think we’d ever be a threat to be promoted with him. The football was dreadful. I am looking forward to something new. Talk about him laying the foundations at Leicester is fair but they also played a much better brand of football after he left. He set up the structure and someone else set them free to play actual football not percentages.

I agree. Nothing wrong with sacking a manager. The problem is when you appoint a worse option which, although likely, hasn't happened yet.

That's a shame, well who knows, you may never had the time to contribute so effectively to this forum. :)

Talking of next big things I remember Bristol band Essential Bop being interviewed by Paul Morley with him calling them next year's (1980?) band to watch. I think it was bands like ABC, Wah! and Heaven 17 that were also mentioned.

Anyone else have a copy of this album? Chronicle by Essential Bop is excellent and My Dead Mother was also written by Steve Bush from the band.

I saw them live somewhere, can't remember the venue, but I remember being literally right in front of Steve's microphone and they covered "So You Wanna Be a Rock and Roll Star" The Byrd's, brilliantly.
