  1. PGMOL are the gold standard. So the FA will receive a letter of apology 2 weeks after the tournament has finished. ?
  2. Thanks, interesting. But there doesn't seem to be anything in Law 12 that justifies the Maguire decision. Perhaps there is further guidance to referees I haven't seen. An infringement is classified as a foul when the infringement meets all the following conditions: It is committed by a player (not a substitute); It occurs on the field of play; It occurs while the ball is in play; It is committed against an opponent (for fouls concerning contact or conduct between players). Direct free kicks are also awarded for holding an opponent, impeding them with contact, biting or spitting at other persons, throwing an object (other than the ball) at an opponent or match official, or making contact with the ball with a held object. Direct free kicks are also awarded for holding an opponent ... No caveats there.Time for referees to explain their decisions, even if it's some time after the game?
  3. Bale does nothing for 80 minutes but scores a penalty therefore he's a genius ©John Hartson. It's great that Wales are at a World Cup and all that but the coverage is so over the top.
  4. Yes, much like Nigel he has transformed the culture. Rio Ferdinand confirmed your point about a divided camp yesterday and that players would fake injury to avoid playing for England. People seem to have forgotten how bad things were in the past.
  5. And your response to my point about proper managers Eriksson and Capello is?
  6. And now... The Football Association of Wales is investigating the circumstances around female supporters having rainbow-coloured bucket hats confiscated upon entry to their Group B opener against the USA. Some Wales fans reported being confronted by security for bringing the hats into the Ahmad bin Ali stadium and others have had them confiscated. The Rainbow Wall, a Welsh LGBTQ+ fans’ group, said on Twitter: “Not the men, just women. @FIFAcom ARE YOU SERIOUS!!”
  7. South Africa 2010 group stage: England 1 USA 1 England 0 Algeria 0 England 1 Slovenia 0 The good old days of the golden generation!
  8. Like Eriksson and Capello you mean? Or is this the start of your campaign for Danny Wilson to be England manager? ?
  9. The term @Robboredused was Latino, which refers to US citizens of South American ancestry. South Americans tend not to use the term. So no connection with Southern Europe but given the later reference to Atletico Madrid having an Argentinian manager he was clearly referring to the South American officials. I don't see his comments as racist just an irrelevance when it comes to talking about the VAR officials. The argument seemed to be "South American players cheat, the VAR officials were South American therefore they cheated". Given our experience of VAR in England I think it's better to conclude it's cock up not conspiracy.
  10. Ah, English exceptionalism because our brave lads would never do that would they? And what the hell does your rant have to do with the referee giving a penalty? Were the VAR officials diving and rolling around when they advised the referee? Or are you saying they cheated? Bizarre. And it's Atletico Madrid.
  11. Agreed, that took real courage given the consequences they could face at home. I wonder if FIFA will give all their players retrospective yellow cards for making a political gesture?
  12. I take your point and it's the sort of thing refs might consider but I don't think the laws suggest that should be a factor. It's a bit like pundits saying a penalty shouldn't be awarded because the player was going away from goal, which is irrelevant.
  13. English referees are so good after all. Jesus wept, what are you on about?
  14. So did PGMOL in this country. They were lying too.
  15. Of course you are welcome to believe that but all you have set out is an increasingly tortured range of analogies from Enron to Monopoly. What you haven't set out is exactly how he is going to make a profit. Could you be specific about that?
  16. And presumably you can't claim notional lost transfer income in the P&L itself, which is the distinction I was thinking of. A distinction between compliance with accounting rules and subsequent compliance with FFP in other words.
  17. I've never been in favour of transfer add backs but isn't there a distinction though between the accounts supplied to Companies House and FFP calculations, with the add backs only relevant to the latter?
  18. I'm shocked I tell you, shocked! ?
  19. Did he play under Nigel in Belgium before he went to Brugge?
  20. I suspect you are right about the strategy. Whether it was really the intention to fund a doubling of the wage bill through trading or whether that was down to Steve taking his eye off the ball (and Jon being out of his depth as Chairman and so not reining Ashton in) is a moot point though. A bonkers (as Nigel put it) strategy badly executed based on the false assumptions that we would have an endless stream of players to sell for big money, that Ashton was a recruitment expert, and that fees would go on inflating for ever. None of which had anything to do with building a team.
  21. Isn't their last group game the revenge match against Uruguay? Could be a bloodbath so I'd rather he stayed out of it!
  22. It's no coincidence that he is squad number 25 I think. He has Mohammed Kudus of Ajax, Kamal Sowah of Club Brugge, the two Ayews and Inaki Williams of Athletic Bilbao to compete with as forward options. I don't expect him to start or otherwise get a lot of game time.

    Ronaldo

I would imagine for starters that a contract requires players to get clearance from the club ahead of media interviews, which Ronaldo didn't do here. There may be "bringing the club into disrepute" type clauses among other things. No doubt we'll find out the legal details in due course but given some of his other actions I suspect he may have breached his contract in multiple ways. United are said to have taken external legal advice and I doubt they would start the process without being very confident in their position.

    Ronaldo

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/nov/18/manchester-united-to-sue-cristiano-ronaldo-and-ban-him-over-interview Suing him to be exact: Manchester United have appointed lawyers to sue Cristiano Ronaldo for alleged breach of contract after claims made by the forward in a recent interview, with the club seeking a swift resolution to the issue.
