...for us. In terms of results. At this level, over the past few years.

Taking the last 10 games as a run-in of sorts, I make it our best set of results since 2016-17 season. Last 9 reads: won 5, drawn 3, lost 1.

We typically end seasons very poorly.

Guaranteed to finish in 12th at a minimum, our best league finish since 2019-20 season.

A bit of momentum going into next season?

    Here's hoping.

I think the momentum can go into next season. When Cotterill came in we were all over the place and finished strongly, then the following season we were promoted as champions.

Lansdown plumped for Holden. Not Ashton.

You have more chance of sprouting a second head than Lansdown appointing anyone of that calibre.

Please dont, one of his gurning mug is enough

  3. Old grounds are great but look at the facilities Ashton gate have now the plenty of toilets and food bars etc. I remember having to wait all of half time to queue for a piss in the dolman . Regarding nostalgia though, I like it. I wouldn’t call it a disease

Cannot stand Birmingham! how many times have they almost been relegated out of this league and saved themselves by the skin of their teeth.. as others have said we should have sent them down in 2017.. they stayed up on the last day of the season in 2014 aswell getting a lucky last minute draw to stay up. Relegation to the third tier has been a long time coming for them 🫰

Ah Birmingham, the Everton of the championship then

  5. Was just thinking as our last game of season is at the Britannia stadium. Wouldn’t it be funny if we relegated them.

Quite a dour club and never forgave Shilton for ending our beloved Cheesleys career.

    anyones thoughts please?

Yes, when I say the early years I mean the 1970s - which was not a great decade for any town.

The book as you say was published circa 2000 to highlight the bad points of a town in a sarcastic, sensationalised writing style hence not based on fact, but opinion and humour.  Therefore it is not a reliable source.

I do not recall Yate as having the highest suicide rate, but do recall reading that the divorce rate was very high - in the 1970s.

I think you’re right about the divorce rate. I renember something about that too. I think it was down to blokes having to work away while the housewife’s got bored so played away

Both still there. The 002 long renamed the Abbotswood Inn. The Tern did close for a while but some well meaning local heroes(!) stopped it being redeveloped and it’s now open and doing well. The only pub I actually remember losing in the area is the Four Seasons/Sandridge

Bang on. I think the rep comes from people who haven’t been there, and from a couple of things like where it was put in the “Crap Towns” book decades ago, and referenced in the Half Man Half Biscuit song.

As you say though, loads there and a lot for everyone. I can be on a Victorian high street, a large shopping centre or open countryside all within 25 minutes walk of my house not including the parks, cinemas etc. There’s a reason that more houses are being built here.

    No.

You mention the cinema, although it’s great to have it there I don’t know how it stays open as whenever I’ve been in it’s always sparse at best. That may be down to Cineworlds extortionate prices.

And Westerleigh Road is now a nightmare !

If i’m working anywhere off ringroad i go through Nibley lane past Wasterleigh and come on to Westerleigh rd and usually its ok. Its a nightmare if you come through Coalpit Heath and go along Henfield rd past the Kendleshire.

Quite agree - I'm still mourning the loss of Woolworths!

Travelling around Bristol regularly as I do, you rarely see sags, full stop.

I think they did used to hide out in places like Yate, but I've genuinely no idea where their "stronghold" is now, if they in fact have one.

    Patchway probably

I do frequent Boswell’s sometimes for lunch. But I only do takeaway. I don’t like to sit inside with the other mutants. 🤣

I have taken KITR to the Vintage Birdcage in Charfield, which he enjoyed. But he did seem very twitchy and out of his comfort zone. You see, as he’s a resident of Long Ashton, he seemed like he was half expecting someone in the cafe to be shouting obscenities, drinking cider so cloudy you couldn’t see the brewers foreskin in there, and for a disturbance to occur between a group of teen moms. So the next time he visited he preferred to stay in my house for a cuppa instead.
    😃

Not Beany Boswells as we call it. Terrible all day breakfast with the plate taken up with too many beans, then they put a few chips with it which is wrong. If you want a good breakfast go to Bolero Lounge. Much more sophisticated in there with a nice atmosphere. I’m sure eve KITR would approve .
