History Of Play-off Winners & Losers

The numbers are not the goals scored in the final, but the seasons in the top flight after promoting.

The benefits to winning the playoffs are obvious, but I've decided to take a look at all the play-off final results and see what did happen to those two teams that were involved on the day, how many times the winner went straight back down and what happened to the runners up?

I also took a look at how many seasons the winner stayed in the top flight immediately after promotion, and how many seasons the runner-up stayed in the top flight if they were promoted in the following two seasons.

Considering all the obvious benefits to winning the Playoff Final, the losers have not fared poorly in the long run.

Very interesting, but how can West Ham have been in two consecutive finals, having won the first one? (2004 and 2005)

They lost the 1st one to Palace, the 1-4 is the amount of time the clubs have been in the Premier League since then.

Argh, no! :noexpression:

I knew myself that I read it wrong, as soon as I seen it said "Chelsea - 19" right at the top...

The numbers next to the team names, are not the scores in the play off final! :innocent06:

They relate to the number of seasons the club has been in the top flight, since that particular game...
