Admin phantom Posted May 28, 2008 Admin Report Share Posted May 28, 2008 and Cheltenham on 29th July First weekend in August was a date we often had a home friendly - problem is we tend to play a team from the lowers leagues that day
CiderHider
Probably - and stuff it full of triallists and reserves. We need competitive games from teams who will be up for beating us. No we don't.

We want some!!! Competitiveness at least.
easton boy
No we don't. Agree, Borrussia Munchengladbach(sp?) anyone???? Another reason why they are all away fixtures so far is because the pitch has just been reseeded and they probably want to give it as much time to bed in as possible. CiderHider
Sorry, I was obviously wrong. We need to play a bunch of Premier League kids who won't emulate a competitive match environment. Or a La Liga team who will have us chasing shadows and show us how good they are compared to us. sry cynic i didnt elaborate. I ment its not important to play a friendlys like a cup final, more important to get tactics and positional focus correct. Its not about the oppersition and how good they are, its about us and what GJ wants them to try out new tactcs etc.

If you play some dire Sunday League opposition, their marking sense will be very poor, and will make every tactic work like a charm. High standard players will track, mark and defend with the calibre of our Championship opponents.
CiderSomerset
I hope we have another poor pre-season like last year if we end up playing as well as we did during the season.. Pre-season games are just about getting a bit of match fitness, so I cant see it matters that much who we play...
ballwinningcentrehalf
Still reckon we should get Celtic down here. Obviously biased because I'm a fan. But they'd be pretty much guarenteed to fill their allocation, and I'm sure the takings of local pubs would improve for the day.
