The Bristol City Fan's Guide To Holidaying In The Algarve.

I've only been once to Portugal (used to live in the Algarve when I was a kid - long story), so I'm not hugely familiar with the area. I was hoping some of the resident experts could answer a few questions, and offer any advice to fellow fans.

1. Language. I've got my phrasebooks, and will be making the effort. Do most of the shopkeepers / hotels etc have a little English, or is a case of pointing at phrasebooks a lot?

2. I'm based in Portimao. What's the train / bus service like to and from the airport? Would we be better of getting a taxi?

3. Likewise, what's the best way to get to the games? Do the train / bus services continue late into the night?

4. Socialising. What's the night-life like and where will most of you guys be letting your hair down?

5. Security / safety? Any warnings about hot-spots for pickpockets etc?

6. Beaches. The missus wants to go topless for that all-over tan. I have no complaints with that. Trust there are beaches that allow that?

7. Cameras. I was hoping to take my DSLR camera to the games, along with a zoom lens. Am I going to get a hard time off security, in the same way we would at a league match, or do you reckon they might be less restrictive.

8. Where will the squad be training, and do you think fans are allowed to go and watch?

9. Bit disappointed it looks like we won't be seeing Meteb there, or might he fly in and join us later?

That's all for now. Flying first thing tomorrow, from Nottingham, so I'll check for replies tonight. Many thanks, and hope to see some of you there.

we're stopping in Albufeira .......... probably the Barracuda bar will be taking most of our Euro's ...

hopefully that bar will be running a coach to the games,

the bars in the old town,

hopefully we'll be drinking the first glass of lemonade around 1pm on Tuesday.

Any word on transport? According to the official site:

Meanwhile, Adam Murrin at the Barracuda Sports Bar in Old Town, Albufeira (between old bus station & the Square) is trying to organise transfers to and from the matches, subject to numbers. Call (+351) 289 515 336.

I was in Albufeira back in 2004 for the Euros. There was alot of thieving in the old town from the Moroccans so go careful! As for nightlife the strip (New Town) has plenty of bars but personally I found the Old Town much better as there were plenty of bars and was very laid back. The ground in Albefeira is very nice and was where the Dutch trained. If the match is held during the day I advise to take a hat as its a real suntrap there and we all got sunburnt! Hope whoever is going has a great time and don't forget to give us a match report. :)

Expect you have already arrived and enjoying sun!

Answer to your questions

Language, everyone speaks english in most bars and shops

Portimao have an adequate bus and train service to and from Faro, I would leave plenty of time to get to the Faro game and make a day of it there!

Not sure how late trains run back to portimao, best to get a taxi

The Barracuda Bar is in old town Albuferia between the old bus station and the square, cant miss us, we are arranging minibuses to the games on Wednesday and Friday

don't drop your guard when it comes to security like any foreign country there is always crime.

Beaches great can go topless, so missus can get that all over tan!

don't know where squad is training will endeavour to find out.

have a great trip and call into the Barracuda for a pint

I was on Holiday last year in portugal and stumbled accross the baracuda bar, Have a look at the shirt above the toilet i bet you cant guess which one it is!!!!!

I advise you to go in its a quality little bar! As siad previously New town has a big strip with bars and clubs but i prefer the old town as its a bit more relaxed but there are still loads of bars and pubs.
