Trouble Tonight

Driving past KFC after the game and saw lots of police and dogs running around, seemed like some fans were getting struck by batons. Driving down Bridge Valley road towards AG about 10 20 and saw police escorted fans towards AG from under the bridge.

Anyone see what happened or what started it off?

Why ask me ?

Because of your lovely comment you made to me when i just happened to tell our Belgian friend how it is over here. namely.

Jeez.....

Some people are living in some sort of sub-culture where they believe that anti-social behaviour is normal.

Its a fact that it happens after nearly every game, or were you just trying to say to your Belgian friends that it is a one off.

to say it happens most games is ahuge exageration i very rarely see any trouble.

if there is any its just really brave lads shouting behind a line of the police

And I stand by that comment.

If you can't understand it, that's your problem - one of many I suspect.

Cynic - why are you making such comments to Portland Bill, do you know him?

From what I can see, all he said was the truth - many posters yesterday were referring to large numbers of 'unfriendly' Belgians, some of whom were attracting the attention of the law pretty early, and abusing passers by - they were also referring to an arranged fight whilst in the Coopers Arms, according to a poster who was there (and we weren't) .

If that isn't giving it 'the big un' I don't know what is?

Antwerp has a pretty large, self publicising hooligan group, it it sounds like a good number of them made the trip, bostered by the usual drunken rent a mob.

That doesn't mean that all the Antwerp fans were like that, just a sizeable minority - pretty much like us, or England.

Hopefully, they found what they were looking for with like minded people, rather than innocent office workers or scarfers.

I didn't see Bill condoning violence by either set of fans, but if I have missed something, please enlighten me.

Considering how many there were, how long they were here, how long they had been drinking the Antwerp fans really were a credit to their club.

This was not the horde you are painting.

I can't believe that the ones fighting didn't come here looking for it, or at least didn't take the opportunity to avoid it - i'm sure most were very well behaved, and even the hooligans were 100% behind their team in the ground.

Fact is, a good number were effectively seen to be peeing on our carpet by their anti social behaviour, and whether that's away fans or a stag party from out of town, such behaviour will attract trouble .

Thankyou Bully, you have got it spot on. I told it as it was, i didnt try and spin anything. Cynic MUST always be right in his eyes though and CANT accept being shown to be wrong.

Sometimes I wonder what people actually see or hear. It appears that most on hear like to turn a "blind eye" to opposition fans and then jump all over our fans for the littlest things. I was in the Coopers and a few were talking of starting things up - AT A FRIENDLY!

Now I thought the Antwep fans in general were good but they did come in mass and were alcohol fuelled. And, to think they weren't aggressive with their songs/chants....well, it must have fallen on deaf ears because a lot of their chants were directed at our fans and the Eastenders - AT A FRIENDLY. They were not acting in an approachable manner before or after the game.

Glad we hammered them and showed them what a football team is.

You seem to be a tad obsessive.

To reiterate;

In the other thread you said "Why ? because if your friends come to Bristol and give it "the bigun" they have to expect it. Thats the way it is".

I said "Some people are living in some sort of sub-culture where they believe that anti-social behaviour is normal".

I stand by that 100% - and I am 100% correct in doing so.

Not a lot wrong with what you have said in general but I have to agree with one previous comment. There is indeed a tendancy by many who post on this board to over react when "events" involve City fans but this behaviour is seen as colourful exhurberence when others do the same sort of thing. Which is typlical British well perhaps more English way of looking at things.

Very few I would suspect condone "anti" scoial behaiviour but I am inclinded to agree if you attract attention to yourself you will undoubtley find what you are looking for and it appears to me that some of the visitors last night were not dissapointed in that regard. I would add their support in general was first class no question and credit ot them but don't allow that to cloud your judgement by being to English in a nieve assesment of how prople of all races, creeds, colours, religions etc etc etc behave and refer to football hoolganism as the "English" decease, becuase these days it most cetainly isn't.

In your world it is all a matter of action and reaction, a sad and primitive way of life. Please don't shield behind reality, you support it in your last sentence.

Very sorry for the unkind behaviour of some of the supporters but I think that's just an convinient alibi for the riot of yesterday. The reality is: if you're not up to it you don't need an unfriendly face to convince you.

Btw. You could approach me and a lot of my fellow fans, we didn't bite.

Ps. excuse me for any grammatical mistakes, maybe you're offended(I'm not sure about the rules in your society  )

To the other City fans, we had a great day and your vocal response to our songs was much better than what the Hull supporters performed last year at Hull-Antwerp. You underestimate your support, it was pretty loud.

I really liked the stand we had at Ashton Gate, it's great stadium with a superb acoustic. Also your team gave me a decent impression, hope you'll get promoted this year.

friendly regards from Antwerp afther a long day and no night at all.

100% correct blah blah, that sounds like my 13 year old son :rofl2br: .

Me obsessive :whistle2: your sub culture jibe was aimed at me and you know it. What i said was in answer to a belgium lad who asked why there was trouble after the game. I had read another thread where other people had stated that the Belgiums were "giving it the bigun in Bristol". I was replying to his question, but you could'nt resist giving your snidy comments could you. You obviously have a big opinion of yourself, which unfortunately for you i don't share.

i cant see much wrong with these lads ,nothing more than a bit of name calling anyway, some people have on sense of humour! these Antwerp lads have been on a coach all day, i don't see that they are doing anything wrong ,apart from sitting on the roof. 1000 of these crazy belgiums have come in planes ,trains and coaches etc .They should be rightly applauded for their devotion to RAFC.

Get real ,They aint giving it the big un, they are enjoying their day. I have seen much worst than this if this is what you call provacation!!!

These lads have shown us how the EE should sound on a match day imo :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:
