greenun Posted April 11, 2009 Report Share Posted April 11, 2009 1909 FA Cup Final Replayed 2009 Dear OTIB Members, As you may be aware, at 3.30pm on Friday 24th April 2009 it will be 100 years to the minute since the FA Cup Final between Manchester United and Bristol City kicked off. This was a momentous event for both clubs, who were very much on a par at that time, and their first FA Cup final. This marked the start a record 11 wins in 18 finals during the next century for United but City's solitary appearance to date. In order to ensure the final's centenary does not go unmarked, Bristol City Supporters Trust and the Independent Manchester United Supporters Trust have joined forces to stage a re-enactment of the tie. It was played at Crystal Palace and the Trusts have hired the stadium at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre (which now stands on the same site) from Greenwich Leisure Limited for the 24th of April 2009. A football match between two teams made up of members of both Trusts will take place. The teams will be wearing shirts of that era commissioned from The Old Fashioned Football Shirt Company, as we want to keep this as authentic as possible - celebrating the history, bringing it to life and, just as importantly, having fun playing football! Bristol City Supporters Trust will be delighted if you would like to attend this commemorative match. With this in mind please note that due to health and safety requirements, only a small number of spectators will be allowed to attend the game - currently that number is just 200. Therefore we think it is fairest to provide some of those places on a first come first served basis in return for a small donation towards the costs of staging the event. While £5 per person is unlikely to cover our costs, we have set this as a minimum donation in order to make the match accessible to all.
