SJC
With Antti Niemi signing this week a safe club bet for the incoming 'keeper would no doubt be Portsmouth where Asmir Begovic, last seasons backup, and Jamie Ashdown will fall to 3rd and 4th choice respectively. Manager Paul Hart outlined his vision to see them both move elsewhere to gain first team football today; "Looking at our goalkeepers, Asmir needs to get games so we are looking at putting him out on loan. Jamie's not out of the plans either, he's in amongst us. But he's also said he wants first-team football. Goalkeepers can vegetate and we don't want that to happen so I'm trying to think about both of those players' careers." Canadien Begovic, 22, started two games at the tail end of last season, has had loan spells with Macclesfield, Bournemouth and Yeovil and has represented his country at under 20 level. Ashdown, just under three months shy of his 29th birthday, has had prolonged spells inbetween the Fratton Park sticks. In his debut season with Pompey (04/05) he featured 21 times keeping 5 clean sheets, the following year he made 18 appearances but has since fallen down the pecking order and will start the season as fourth choice. With Johnson saying we will be loaning rather than buying, Begovic would be the more likely. His loan spell at Yeovil, despite not coinciding with Johnson's tenure, would tie in nicely. However Ashdown is also an intriguing prospect. Approaching a goalkeepers prime he will be desperate for first team action, something that he certainly will not now see at Portsmouth, and an engineered loan 'with option' could suit all parties. Drew Peacock
Was Ashdown the guy who passed out? Or was that someone else?
SJC
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4527654.N...gns_for_Pompey/ Niemi signs for Pompey. Gary Johnson -"We think we've got [a loan keeper] ready to come on board in the next day or two, unless something hits a snag." Was Niemi the 'something'? chowie
I don't quite get Portsmouth's thinking on this, is it a money saving exercise? Or are they desperate for their real number 2 to get experience?
Admin phantom Posted August 4, 2009 Admin Report Share Posted August 4, 2009 Pompey reported tonight to having to sell another player just to pay the wages ! Would be a good time to take advantage of a skint club if the right player was available. .
Adge's Cider Mug
Was Ashdown the guy who passed out? Or was that someone else? No, that was Flahavan, who unfortunately died in a car crash having passed out again a while later.

Hull, Burnley and Wolves to go down I feel.
