The Defining Moment Of Johnsons Period In Charge

For me it was the transfer window of two years ago.

We didn't buy bold, we bought safe. That was in the form of Dele Adebola. Until he came on board we played a style of football that had got us out of League 1 and had put us in a position in the Championship where had it been maintained we would more than likely have achieved auto promotion.

This is not to criticise Dele because in his time at the club his goalscoring record was just about acceptable, in fact at a level (10-15 goals per season) that had been pretty consistent throughout his career. No, when Dele came we adapted our style of football to suit him rather than bring in a player that suited our style of football. From the time Dele was here the mantra was get the ball up to the Big Man and a cultured style of whoosh football ensued.

We have had two years of mediocrity on the field. Whilst striving for the Prem must be the objective I think most City fans would have been content this past 24 months if they had been entertained in home games at AG a lot more. Losing 0-6 & 2-5 coud be tolerated if we had won just 4 times that number of games by a similar score line.

You could be right. It seemed to good to be true at the time that we were where we were in the table. We expected WBA to make it and as it turned out Stoke and Hull pipped us...and they were no better than we were. Maybe there was a lack of belief that we could really do it. Something to learn from.
