How Long Since We Played Millwall

According to the OS, those floodlights were donated to Wigan in 1992, so that pic must be at least 18 years old!

The East End and Enclosure became all seater in 1991, so we can add another year to that. Looks like a decent sized crowd as well so might it have been when we played Millwall towards the end of the 90/91 season when they beat us 4-1 (i think) when we were both going for a play off spot?

Correct me if I'm wrong but in the late 80's/early 90's we had real 'W-S-M' type pitches in the second half of the seasons and that pitch looks like a nice surface with no wear, I would suggest a game towards the start of a season? :innocent06:

Thought it was raining heavily that day? I was very young but seem to remember getting soaked.

yeah it did 2nd half.

The photo matches a programme picture with the wording Bristol city vs Nottingham forest 1989

unless they are wrong? but all the bits seem to match up, stadium style of the time, kits on the pitch

and crowd size.

Semi Final 2nd Leg, It WAS pouring with rain, before the game! The game nearly got called off because of a sopping wet pitch, they only played it because it was live on TV!

Can't believe it's that game that's in the pic, sorry!:disapointed2se: (it was a long time ago though....:whistle2: )

Was the pitch really in that good a condition at that point of the season?

Have a look at this youtube vid and check out the pitch! (I know it was the end of the game but......)

Does look different viewing the video, must be a programme error.

When was the wedlock stand recovered with the red roof? as it would be between then and before the williams was revamped, the seats were fitted in the eastend in 1991.. Looking for a big gate game and a team wearing white shirts black shorts..

86-87 H to swindon 19,201

87-88 H to doncaster 18,373

87-88 play off semi final H to sheff utd 25,335

87-88 play off final H to walsall 25,128

88-89 cup H to forest 28,084

89-90 H to walsall 19,483

89-90 FA Cup H to cambridge 20,678

The rest from 84 - 91 gates were not really that high most under 10k apart from playing the gas.

If the picture was on the programme for the game - it must have beentaken at a game prior to that surely?

I remember sitting at the front of the Grandstand for this one expecting City to steamroller already relegated Doncaster, including Brian Deane, to clinch our place in the Play Offs.

It didn't quite go to plan but finally, probably Citys second best loanee, Colin Gordon, plaster cast 'n all, bulgeoned his way through the keeper to score.

Happy Days :dancing2: :dancing2: :dancing2: .

That's the one i reckon as i'm sure Swindon away kit was always whites shirts, black shorts back then.

More great memories.

Didn't we have to win to cement our place in the Play Offs and thanks to a Gordon Owen penalty miss we dropped out.

Two weeks later Owen missed another penalty, this time at Wembley :disapointed2se:.

You've got to feel the pain to really appreciate the joy.

Getting back to the Ashton Gate photo, isn't the East End casting a shadow, surely this means it was an early kick off.:dunno:
