Glass Thrown Across East End At City Fans

I am not defending the actions of people who were supposedly calling themselves fans of Bristol City yesterday after the game. However, I feel that the stewards and police also didn't do their jobs properly yesterday. After the first Millwall goal 3 glass bottles were thrown across the East End from the away end, 1 deflected off a female supporter before smashing on the floor, 1 narrowly missed hitting me in the face before smashing at my feet and another smaller what seemed to be shot glass landed short and just missed the back of a stewards head. Now how the hell were they managed to be gotten into the ground. During the 2nd half a dart was also thrown across also not getting to City fans luckily. I'm guessing that they were part of the escort and were just herded into the ground by police as they didn't want City and Millwall fans outside together for longer than they had to and were not searched. I think that fans should be able to go to a football match not having to worry about keeping 1 eye out for missles which shouldn't have got into the ground in the first place!

However on a positive note the City supervisor steward who came over, did a great job and checked for any injuries before getting the glass cleaned up which was in the area City fans were stood and was a nice touch I felt when he probably didn't have to do it so fair play he went beyond his normal duties. The main question is how were Millwall fans able to get such items into the ground though?!

It wasn't just Millwall fans though was it? I saw plenty of stuff being thrown at them after the second and third goals.

Also the stewards on the gates have become extremely lax recently anyway. I remember when I used to be patted down etc... Now they just look at me and let me in.

Ahh that's what happens when you goad them. One day some people will get what's coming to them because they will goad the wrong set of supporters. The people that stand by the net will have no chance. All mouth.

It didn't cover either set of fans in glory, yes I did see empty bottles being thrown after the 3rd goal from the middle of the City section by net, but to have glass and darts being thrown is taking it a step to far in my opinion. I also agree the standard of security has been lax and I have noticed it, people with bags were not even having them being searched and this was 1 of the most high risk games of the season it is madness.

I don't see why people feel they have to get involved with missle throwing, a bit of banter and hostile atmospheres can make for the best atmospheres but I hope people from either side who threw missles are ashamed of what they have done. It seems no innocent fans were injured in ground but women and children could be hit, what could you say to a parent after blinding their son/daughter with a coin. I'm sure some involved have children imagine if it was your child that got hit and how you would feel.

Come on why we making Millwall out to be so bad when we have our own share of wannabes in the EE? Pot kettle black. I've been in the EE since it opened and there is some ***** in there that give it the big un behind some stewards. Ben them and then lets see how hard they are when their crying. Where were they when Cardiff charged the EE a few years back? Yea that's right running down the steps as if they were Usain Bolt. It's a bloody football game for gods sake. Take a reality check.

After the game I saw some wannabies run up to the gates at the back of the EE where Millwall are giving it the come on. Oh how I wished Millwall smashed them gates down.

I do agree Dan there are a few lads in there who have 1 Natch to many from the corner shop and then think they are Danny Dyer. they are an annoyance but i wouldn't say they were dangerous. But not everybody who stands by the net can be classed as that. The block nearest the net is now 1 of the more vocal parts of the East End. Also some fans like to stand as close to the goal as they can. City fans are certainly not angels i haven't said they are. I am more concerned that dangerous objects are getting into the East End we are not in the 70's anymore.

The OP makes an interesting point about security at games. a number of man united 'fans' were caught trying to smuggle objects such as golf balls, snooker balls, darts into the first leg of last year's carling cup semi final at eastlands. from what i was told, it seemed that all united fans were subject to a thorough search as a condition of entry to the ground and, as a result, no-one was hurt inside the ground. with this in mind, it'd be interesting to know whether the millwall fans were not searched because city did not have the manpower to do it, or if the police made a decision that it would be easier to control them inside the ground, and so just let them in with no search. either way, it seems like the potential for serious injury to be caused to fans of either side inside the ground could easily have been avoided.

Cardiff Charged the EE, really o remember seeing lots of Bench and McCenzie wearing chavs and overweight old men, making a pathetic attempt to get 2 rows into the black netting, you are exagerating. The ee has some muppets like every part of every ground, I think you are mixing up excitable youths with real football hooligans.

So you are deploring the actions of people misbehaving in the city part of the ee then wishing that Millwall would take the gates off the ee to attack a bunch of people goading them!!!!

I've never posted on here before as I haven't felt the need to.

I was the female fan that was nearly hit by the glass and I can honestly say that I was petrified I was crying and shaking and the police and the stewards were just blaming eachother...

In the 14 years i've been a going to football and the majority as a ST holder I have never been that scared.

I do sit by the netting as im small and can see the pitch more clear.. but I am certainly not one of those "who looks for it"

I felt very let down today by the policing/ stwearding.

I was peed off when I walked into the ee on saturday to see that we had been squashed up again. I know the club has to make money and sell as many tickets as possible but I am getting fed up with being second class citizens when we have to accommodate a large away crowd.

This will be different for barnsley it is only for the so called high risk games.

Hope this stupid behavior doesn't put you off going its brainless and very cowardly ok if some want to punch lumps out of each other you can't stop it from arrival in Bristol to leaving, there are always those hell bent on dodging police escorts and coming in very early or sneaking in through another route

Some Millwall were bragging about strutting round the City centre for 3 hours then going past the Robins and putting the frightners on those sat outside , didn't see 1 Millwall fan in North Street for all the trying to send them down the Baccy Factory anyway normal service will kick in again against Barnsley NO TROUBLE.

No I was stood by the toilet block and saw it all, They ripped up the black netting and came over about 2 blocks but then gave up when they realised there was no City left in the EE cos they legged it. The ones by the net are excitable youths, Who are all coked up(yes there is also a big drug problem within the EE) What I'm getting at is this kids think they are all hard but they need a slap or an arrest to bring them back down to earth. There was kids present that saw these youths run up the back of the EE and heard them shouting and swearing. That's a section 5 in my mind.

Or not, i was stood it between cardiff, the police, and city, in the middle as i was waiting to collect my flags.

No cardiff came over, bar one bloke, who then stopped when he worked out he got over. Never in a million years did they go over 2 blocks.

Suprising how minds work differently at remembering things.

A terrible experience for you i am sure and hard to comprehend how the Police and/or Stewards did not at least ask if you wanted to be moved or would like to be taken outside for a while and have a cup of tea or something to gather your composure.

One thing i would say though and that is i would have thought you would be far more comfortable in the Atyeo or Williams stand where the abuse, language etc is much more acceptable, for me at least anyway and we all knew the Wall game was a recipe for some trouble.

I am sure the club would relocate you if you thought this a good idea.

Hope you pick yourself up and enjoy the rest of the season.

Cough, cough, choking on my tea here!

Making Millwall fans sound bad??? You obviously missed the love in thst certain posters had going on Saturday night.

As for Millwall being big hard, why not zip their flies up and move on.

Cardiff will be in town soon, should make your day! Yum, yum!

I wasn't paying attention when all the objects were being launched for both sets of fans - I only took notice when i felt something hit the back of my leg and turned round and it was glass that had shattered on the floor which nearly hit my friend. It's out of order not just in a football ground but anywhere! Reports say it was well policed inside the ground? Then how do they explain several objects that got into the ground are meant to be prohibited from football grounds? Disgrace.

Still amazed how many naive forum posters we have viz the postings on the fixture-day release.

Of course a Millwall opening day fixture would be trouble free.

Surely it was flowers, not bottles, they were throwing? Imagine if they'd lost 3-0 they'd have been buying us drinks and handing round the sandwiches .

I agree with this advice. We should all be able to stand wherever we want but ......

Stand against the net in the Wedlock with 2000 Milwall fans a few yards away?

Remember those seats are unallocated and often the first to fill up. There would have been plenty of seats away from the net 20 minutes before kick off.

Complete Bull

The eastend has gone through stern searches on the city side and drugs and missiles or weapons would have been found ffs even bull shit on here in the past resulted in sniffer dogs out side the EE and nothing found.

As for cardiff they tried to rush the netting when they waited for most of the stand to leave I KNOW AS I WAS ONE OF THE LAST OUT getting my flag, only a hand full of city fans were on the steps and police were pushing them out it was cardiff getting brave to a empty stand, yes we have some excitable kids who like a bit of banter but nothing hard core IMO, at the recent meeting with the club they even said how happy they were with the behaviour of the stand last season THAT IS WHY THEY HAVE AGREED TO RELAX THE TICKETING IN THE EE no way would they if the club thought there was a big problem, they also agreed that millwall is one of those fixtures that brings out a certain element in the away support and they have a much worse history than most clubs so relaxation starts with Barnsley..

I have read enough bull shit on this site the last 2 days to last a life time.
