Carey 6
Do we have a player that is known for scoring free kicks? On saturday one of the things that most angered me was when we had a free kick in a really good position, but Mccalister crossed it in.
mark43
Yeah, I was amazed when nobody had a shot from there. Surely there was somebody who could have a go?

Redland
Do we have a player that is known for scoring free kicks? The answer is no we don't. Until Hartley joined us last year we almost never scored from free kicks or corners. The situation improved considerably with Hartley but now he has gone and we are back to square one. In contrast we regularly concede goals from free kicks and corners. Millwall scored two goals from dead ball situations on Saturday. It will be interesting to see the number of goals we score from free kicks and corners this year, compared to the number we concede. Unless we bring in a dead ball specialist to replace Hartley I'm not holding my breath!

Unless we bring in a dead ball specialist to replace Hartley I'm not holding my breath! I was about to say about Hartly being the key man to take free kicks last season. For example his free kick against West Brom away. We still lost 4-1 but I'm sure it was a free kick he scored to make us cheer about something. Could have been another game I went to though. Now he's gone we are pretty much back to square one. Unless one of the new signings has a good free kick foot, perhaps Cisse ? Anybody know ? If not Nicky Maynard I'm sure will have a good crack, after all the long range efforts he finished last season I'm sure he can put together a tidy free kick on the edge of the box. Only problem is hes out becasue of injury. Was going to ask actually, anybody know how much longer he is out for ?? Someone new definutely needs to step up as free kick taker though IMO. Macca just isn't good enough
westred1
known for scoring free kicks? when?! I remember him scoring one at Oldham away in a 3-0 win promotion season? That's it.
Bristol_South_End
First ever post! Having been down at Saturday's game I would definitely agree that City need another dead-ball taker. None of McAllister's corners had great quality, and the free-kick that Adomah brilliantly won was completely squandered. Having said that, we weren't winning many balls in the air anyway, so maybe that would need to be addressed as well as the issue with who's delivering the ball in! (I guess Vokes was brought in partly for that reason, damn!)

bristolcitysweden
My initial thougt was; No we haven't. We are paying thousands of £ each week but no one can even take a decent free kick. But Nicky Maynard can and so can McCallister if I'm generous. The sad thing is that for all the good money we spent under the former manager we hardly got more than, and how should I put it to be politically correct, a team of crap footballers. Hang me high but we don't have a footballing side for all the good money spent. Don't mention the the injured players. Most of them are dead meat to be fair. BCFCfan
To sign a player as good as Hartley with a dead ball would cost upwards of 5m. I cant even think of any that could score the free kick like he scored away at West Brom...... How's David beckham's ankle getting on?

There are loads of good players out there on 1/3 to 1/4 of our players. It's nothing but a joke if that is politically correct to say. We need a majority of footballers, 6-7 seven good football players who understand what the game is about. At the best we have 2-3.
BCFCfan
Problem is we have gone from a 'not pretty but effective' manager to a 'pure football' manager. Not many players can do both. Weve just begun the long process of a complete squad change i think.
bristolcitysweden
Finishing tenth last season, up against a team that got promoted as last team, at home in front of a full house we constantly play long balls from the keeper in the first half. To me it signals that the manager understand we got a crap team. Our only hope is Nicky Maynard.
