gater2
I know sports psychologists must have done quite a bit of work on this, but it's always baffled me how much of a difference it makes, playing home and away. Last night for example: a loss is always a bad result (and it sounds like we played pretty terribly), but if we'd lost away from home, I don't think we would have been quite so angry (think of Ipswich - that was almost expected). But the fact that is was a home loss - a 2-0 one at that - just seems to rub it in a bit more! I know there are factors like travelling, home support being bigger than away support, familiarity with surroundings etc, but isn't a football pitch just a football pitch? Just shows how much psychology really does have to do with the game. Maybe we should be investing more in the psychological aspect of the game as well as fitness, tactics on the training ground etc? Thoughts?
downendcity
According to the tabloids, most pro footballers seem to perform when they are playing away.
