Portland Bill
Just thought i would have a look back over the last 20 years at ours and Cardiffs crowds. I keep reading all this rubbish about Cardiff being some kind of super club. Since 1990 the rounded up average crowds are. Cardiff City 8,000 Bristol City 12,000 This is including the last couple years in there new Legoland stadium. So i think we can now put to bed who has the better and more loyal support. And its not Cardiff Anyone who wants a more in depth look, heres the links. http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/carc.htm http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/bric.htm

CardiffBlackLabel
First up, I'm ashamed that Cardiff's crowds fluctuated so much, and coincided with a real low in the 1980's and early 1990's. That said, this was a trend that affected pretty much every club at the time. Cardiff's crowds of 2,958 in 1990/1991 are awful for a club of Cardiff's history and city size, but that is as much a reflection on football at the time as the club itself. Evidence? That same season 1990/91, Fulham averaged 4,057, Birmingham 7,030, Bolton 7,281, and that was in the league above. Yep, Cardiff's crowds were shoickingly low, but it does need to be seen in the context that clubs like Newcastle and Chelsea would regularly get sub 15,000 gates in the top two divisions. While I'm ashamed at Cardiff's crowds in that era, I don't think anyone can claim that Bristol City fans were ultra loyal at the time. As you slid down the leagues the decade before, you lost almost 20,000 fans in 4 seasons 1978/79 22,306 1979/80 18,932 1980/81 9,765 1981/82 6,511 1982/83 4,

It was shamefull, i can hold my head up and say i was one of the 22,306 and the 4,799 though. Both clubs have such a big "floating" support. Neither will make the big time and stay there untill this changes.

Ours is 14,163 and yours is 14,279 so I'd say we're pretty evenly matched.
